Nowata Methodists a body of believers belonging to the United Methodist Church in the Oklahoma Annual Conference. We are located in downtown Nowata, Oklahoma, where we seek to engage our community through a variety of ministries to reach outside our doors, by worshipping together, and by teaching adults and children how to talk about their faith.

This week we made our way through chapter 8 of the Gospel of Matthew.
"But Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 7: 13-29. This week we concluded chapter 7 of the Gospel of Matthew and with that the sermon on the mount.
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
The Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 7. This week we made it through the first 14 verses of the chapter.
Chapter 6 of the Gospel of Matthew is where we we were at this last week. Join us as we discuss the first 18 verses of this chapter.
Divorce, remarriage, and taking oaths. This week we finish chapter 5 of the Gospel of Matthew.
This Sunday we took a different route, in light of what happened Saturday evening we discuss what a christian's response should be to political violence.
Part three of our continuing study of Chapter 5 of the Gospel of Matthew. This week we dive into what happens in verses 17-48.
This week we continue our way through chapter 5 of the Gospel of Matthew, analyzing the Beatitudes and the sermon on the mount. If you missed last weeks sermon we went over John Wesleys preaching on this part of the gospel, you can find that sermon on youtube and facebook.
The sermon on the mount and the beatitudes. This week Pastor Jeffrey preached from the sermons of John Wesley one of the founders of Methodism, in particular from one of his sermons on the beatitudes, or the blessings found in the sermon on the mount.
Jesus enters into the wilderness to fast for 40 days and 40 nights, Satan's temptation, & the recruiting of the first disciples. This week we are in chapter 4 of the Gospel of Matthew in our study of this gospel.
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”, This week we discuss Chapter 3 of the Gospel of Matthew which introduces us to John the Baptist and his call for repentance. We then end this chapter with the baptism of Jesus and what that should mean for us.
The Magi from the east and the flight of Joseph, Mary, & Jesus to Egypt. This week we go through chapter 2 of the Gospel of Matthew and discuss the meaning and background of each verse.
Ordinary season is upon us, this means we are going to be making our way through a whole book of the Bible. For the next 27 weeks we will dive deep into the Gospel of Matthew, studying each chapter verse by verse. This week we began chapter 1 with the genealogy of Jesus and the revelation to Mary and Joseph of the coming child.
This week we joined with our brothers and sisters in Christ from the First Baptist Church and the Delaware Methodist Church to celebrate the day of pentecost. We were fortunate enough to hear messages from Pastor Ralph Beavers and Pastor Jeffrey.
The final Sunday of Christian Passover, this week we had readings from Acts 1, Psalm 1, 1st John 5, & John 17.

This week is the 2nd week in the liturgical season of Lent. Our readings for this week were from Genesis 17, Psalm 22, Romans 4, & Mark 8.
This week starts the season of Lent. Our readings this week were from Genesis 9, Psalm 25, 1st Peter 3, & Mark 1. The theme throughout deals with the waters of the flood vs the waters of baptism.
This week we start and finished the letter to Philemon. A short one chapter epistle of Paul that was sent to the leader of a house church in Colossae concerning the runaway slave Onesimus. Join us as we study the history and modern implications of this letter.
This week we finish up the last part of chapter 3 of Colossians and continue on into chapter 4. In the last part of chapter 3 however we talk about the structure and hierarchy of a biblical family.
Vices & Virtues; This week we reach chapter 3 of Colossians, in this chapter we find a list of virtues and vices that Paul encourages us to uphold and put to death.
This week we continued our series in the Epistle to the Colossians with chapter 2. We go over the concept of a heavenly council that is addressed and the worship on angels that was happening in the church at Colossae.

This last week we kicked off the season of Advent, the period of time before the Christmas season. We read from Isaiah 64:1-9, 1st Corinthians 1: 3-9, & Mark 13:24-37 all of which reflect the desire for God to come and rule over Earth and what that looks like for believers.
This week we study the book of Obadiah the prophet. In this book we find the prophecy concerning the destruction of the kingdom of Edom. Join us as we look into the cultural and historical context of the shortest book in the Old Testament.
This week we closed out our study of the Book of Jonah. Join us as we dive into the final chapter of this book, looking at the historical and theological implications of this unique book of the Bible.
In chapter 3 of the Book of Jonah we find that the prophet has made his way to Nineveh, just as God commanded him to do, but what the King and the city then do is surprising. Join us as we discover what happens in chapter 3.
This week we dive into chapter 2 of the Book of Jonah. Last week we left off with Jonah being tossed overboard by the crew of the ship in an attempt to calm the sea. What happened to Jonah after this? Did he die? What was his prayer to God? And what other things happen in the second chapter of this book?
This week we start off in the first chapter of the Book of Jonah. Most people remember the story from children's church but let's take a look at it with the eyes of an adult. In this podcast we cover the entire first chapter of the book from its place in history, to its connection to the New Testament.
The final part of our series in book of 1st Corinthians. In this section we deal with the bodily resurrection, the nature of the church & christian faith, and wrapping up the this letter to the Corinthian Church.
In this chapter we begin talking very explicitly about the resurrection of the body and how it impacts our daily lives.
Nowata local, Dane Warner, owner of Warner Audio Video Consulting & Design, came to talk about the new movie that End of the Road Productions is premiering this Saturday. He talks about the historical story, lessons for today around racial tension and mental illness, the nature of faith and his hopes for how the story will be received. The Nowata community will surely be interested to learn tidbits of historical fact that he drops, correcting many false rumors over the years. Viewers and listeners will also be interested to learn about all the ways in which the Nowata community has been involved in the production of this venture, and the ways that this could potentially benefit our community into the future. Take some time to learn about this project and the people behind it.

Gifts of the Spirit. How should we as a church approach these things, especially speaking in tongues. In Chapter 12 of 1st Corinthians Paul addresses the church who seems to be highlighting some of these gifts more than others.
Pastor Jeffrey was out this week so our friend James Lambert from Asbury Tulsa filled in at the pulpit to preach on Chapter 9 of 1st Corinthians. Part of this chapter deals with how churches deal with paying clergy.
We begin chapter 8 of 1st Corinthians this week in our ongoing study of this letter of Paul
A harder message this week as we go into chapter 7 of 1st Corinthians. Because of all the things within this chapter we will be taking more time going through it. This week is part one of Chapter 7.
Chapter 6 of 1st Corinthians. Brining other believers to a worldly court and judging angels are some of the topics we covered this week.
Nowata Public Schools has a new Superintendent, Tim Simpson. He was kind enough to come sit down with Pastor Jeffrey to offer a sense of who he is to the larger community of Nowata. The two discussed many of the pressing issues affecting public education today, how it is that Mr. Simpson thinks through newer models of education versus older, what place college prep and trade school has in public education, and the role of parents in the school. Viewers and listeners will note Mr. Simpson's transparency and eagerness to connect. Take the time to learn about him so that you can know how to pray for him, and how to come alongside him as he strives to promote the best situation possible for Nowata's children and youth.
Chapter 4 of 1st Corinthians is what we reviewed this last Sunday during worship, continuing our study of the book of 1st Corinthians
Week three of our study of the book of 1st Corinthians, this week we tackle chapter 3 and all it has to offer us.
This last Sunday we started a new book of the Bible, the 1st Letter to the Corinthians, each week we will go through a chapter to get a better understanding of this very important letter written by the Apostle Paul.
For the past three weeks we have studied the book of Jude and this week we complete that study with part 4.
The third week of our series on the Epistle of Jude. This week we go over some of the specific stories referenced in the Old Testament and connect them to what is going on in Jude.
This segment deals with a church that has been on my heart for several months as they have faced several serious challenges, the likes of which American churches almost never have to deal with. Take some time to learn about Gwarimpa Abuja and their pastor, Rev. Absalom Nuhu. Rev. Nuhu was recently robbed by some thugs, losing not only his money, but also his phone and laptop. My hope is that we can come alongside him and his church to bless them materially and spiritually in their time of need. They have already started construction and need our aid in order to see it through. I pray for generous hearts!

We continue through the Epistle of Jude this week and continue to tie this book to the larger picture of the Bible and the time when it was written.
This week we began the Epistle of Jude, where we are going verse by verse through this short book. We managed to get partway through this week, next week we will pick up the final half.

This past week Pastor Jeffrey sat down with Pastor Coulter Conner, previously the youth pastor at Hillside Christian Church he is now the pastor at Christ's Church of Labette County in Altamont, Kansas. Their discussion ranges from the historic creeds of the Christian church, community, and if it is necessary in this life for a Christian to suffer for Christ.

Pastor Jeffrey was able to sit down with Rev. Dr. James Dunn, the current president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville Oklahoma. They talk about higher education for Nowata area youth, what OKWU has to offer that other state schools don't, and what goes into forming good people in the future. In light of today's anxieties around CRT, wokism, and ideological drift in institutions, this conversation is more interesting than one might think on first glance.

1st Sunday of Advent. This week we change up the order of service and go back to the normal liturgical calendar. Our reedings for this week were Isaiah 2:1-5, Psalm 122, Romans 13:11-14, & Matthew 24:36-44.
The last section of the Book of Titus. We tackle the issue of slavery and systems in this section of the book.
In this podcast we cover the first chapter of the Book of Titus through chapter 2:8. Join us as we tackle the what could be perceived as controversial points of view in this book.
Continuing our series on early Methodist documents, Pastor Jeffrey reviews John Wesley's 'Directions for Singing.' Many might roll their eyes at the attempt to tell other people how to sing, as we today often see it as somewhat of a private affair. Even so, take a few moments to consider the reflections of John Wesley, as well as the scriptural instructions on how to sing and some reflections from other believers. It is possible that the way we sing together can be something that accomplishes powerful things?
The final chapter of The Book of Romans. We go through the chapter in detail as Paul wraps up one of the most important books in the New Testament.
Submission to the government and governmental authorities. Although uncomfortable to some chapter 13 of the Book of Romans cannot be ignored, this week we dive right into this chapter and try to make sense of it.
