This podcast is an outlet for my thoughts and questions: things I want my students to think about before they embark upon their adult lives as engineers and leaders in their communities, churches, and families. These are letters to my students, but everyone is welcome to listen in on our conversation.
Today I'm speaking once again with my colleague Dr. Gerry Brown. I ask him some questions on behalf of our students about the engineering profession, how to know if it's right for you, and what it's like to solve problems as an engineer.

Engineering school consists of a jam-packed curriculum full of challenging technical material and high academic expectations, which can create difficult hurdles for aspiring engineers. Knowing what to expect and getting ideas on how to cope could make or break a student's first year, and, therefore, his whole education and career options. Today I had the pleasure of sitting down to speak with my father, Dr. Michael Scarpone. He is a sports medicine physician and has dealt with many interesting ethical issues in his career. He has also seen significant changes to the ethical norms promoted by his profession during his time in practice. A similar interview to this one was part of my ethics course content several months ago. The focus was on being a meaningful part of an ethically self-regulating profession. We touched on these and many other issues in our conversation today. Thank you again for joining us, and I hope you find our discussion beneficial.
