David and Stephanie Tell Thanksgiving Stories. The good, the bad, the funny, the emotional. And looking past this year to the Thanksgiving we hope for in the future.
This weeks show was recorded a few days after the election and David & Stephanie discuss post election stress and try to put it all in perspective. They both conclude that whichever way the results fall, "It's going to be alright". Stephanie discusses gender roles throughout history from ancient times right through today. The focus year this week is 2008 which was also a monumental election with the Democratic party choosing between two firsts, an African American or a woman to be their party's standard bearer. David continues the theme of the election relaying how after the long election and serving as a poll watcher in his county , the whole process has left him feeling numb. Stephanie concludes with something good, which is sitting on her back deck in a gentle mist, observing nature and her Spanish Oak which makes her feel good.
Stephanie & David's conversation this week ranges from baby boomers who are not all at a place that they had envisioned, a discussion of the cultural, newsworthy events and musical highlights of the decade of 1975-1985 to Stephanie sharing her lifetime love of poetry featuring a current poet she has recently found.
With this week's show being just a few days before the election, both Stephanie and David have decided that it is time to disengage from the constant political anxiety. David discusses being a poll watcher in his community during the early voting and Stephanie has decided to get involved in local grass roots state politics after the election. This week we look back at the decade of 1965-1975 and a discussion of the similarities between then and now. David talks about his recent physical and how he found it amusing how his doctor told him he is basically healthy with a great future. Stephanie agrees that we all constantly need to think about our future at all stages of our lives. Stephanie concludes with positive thoughts about all the joyful things about being human.
This week's conversation begins with Stephanie telling David about her pre-Halloween fun experience of socially distancing with friends on paddle boats all wearing witches hats, around Lake Austin, which leads to a discussion of retail stores pushing holiday decorations earlier and earlier each year. David brings back "Yak About Tech" to talk about this years newly introduced iPhones as well as his Apple Ecosystem. The look back is to 2000 and the fear of computer systems crashing. It was the year that PlayStation 2 was introduced and the year that the presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore was heard in the Supreme Court in December. Stephanie concludes this week's program back on the subject of Halloween and how she gave out candy in past years rather than healthy treats but not this year, due to the pandemic.
This week's ongoing conversation between two friends begins with David and Stephanie discussing their exhaustion with current politics, and how the early voting has finally begun as the political season draws to a close. The look back is to 1978, the start of video games, and an early version of personal computers. It was the year of Jim Jones and his cult in Guyana and the year that Saturday Night Fever dominated the box office and the music scene with the Bee Gees soundtrack. They both agree that the song of the year was Lionel Richie's Commodores with "Three Times A Lady". This week David reflects on the different perception of time from when back in Junior High School, time seemed to take forever and how today refilling his two week pill box seems to happen every day. They both agree that one childhood year feels like ten adult years. Stephanie concludes with a discussion of her lifelong love of little things that fit in the palm of her open hand from childhood right through today.
This week, David celebrates a big birthday and Stephanie thinks that David may have stumbled upon the secret to aging well. The discussion turns to a re-examination of social media after Stephanie gets locked out of Instagram and decides to take a break. The year is 1979, the introduction of the Sony Walkman and the Knack with "My Sharona", Michael Jackson's, "Off the Wall", and Stephanie recalls rollerskating in Venice Beach while David was living an artsy and decadent life, directing a play in London. We conclude this week's conversation with David thinking about history and the possibility of history repeating itself, while Stephanie is looking for something good coming out of the pandemic.
Here you go:
Today's never ending conversation starts with David and Stephanie both agreeing that they had good weeks when not watching or reading the news on a daily basis. David laments how the pandemic has forced the cancellation of performing arts in New York City and elsewhere. Today's look back is on 1974, the year that Gerald Ford became president after the resignation of Richard M. Nixon, and Muhammad Ali was stripped of his heavy weight title when he refused to take the step forward at his local draft board. Stephanie's commentary this week reflects on the lack of reporting of a family life and the lack of humanity in today's White House, unlike any administration in recent memory. And David finishes by expressing his joy at doing the show each week with Stephanie.
David and Stephanie talk about the fires in Oregon and the underlying issue of climate change, and how both sides of the political spectrum should listen to each other. The year is 1946 at the beginning of the the baby boomer generation, a year that introduced the bikini, UNICEF, Tupperware and MENSA. David is approaching a milestone birthday and Stephanie concludes with a thoughtful poem.
Today's conversation begins with David and Stephanie sharing their frustration of being stressed out by both the health crisis and the political climate, and the lack of civility. Stephanie proposes a re-imagination of the drive-in of her youth as a venue for concerts, while keeping our social distance. We look back at 1977, the year Jimmy Carter was inaugurated and Roots was the most watched and talked about television series. It was also the year that Elvis Presley died and one of the great New York City blackouts. Stephanie began a short career as a singer in a rock band and David was a bartender in a New York City theatrical bar, and he shares his stories of his encounters with legendary stars Ethel Merman and Richard Burton. And we finish with both David and Stephanie discussing the best way for wisdom to be shared with the younger generation.
This week’s conversation begins with David and Stephanie agreeing that the Democratic Convention was a success with many well-delivered speeches, highlighted by those of former president and first lady, Barack and Michelle Obama. David discusses the importance of exercise, particularly during the pandemic lock-down. 1968 is the featured year including the Vietnam War and the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy. It was also the year that Star Trek debuted on television and the Broadway show, Hair was at the vanguard of the hippie movement. Stephanie wraps up by wondering about how the current turbulence and divisive politics of today will affect the younger generation growing up during these troubled times.

Stepher's Feels a Bit Down; TheYear 1982, David's Been Thinking about What he was Thinking About.
a great current event this week because. I am so wanting good news. I am so hungry for the positive, and I found this fabulous news story about a guy that you may not know. His name is Satio Monet and he's from Senegal. Now, I'd never heard of his name, but he's a socket player for player. he's what Europeans call, they're playing football.
[00:01:27] And here's what he says about the millions and millions of them dollars that he's making every year. This touched me so much. Why would I want 10 Ferrari's, 20 diamond watches or two planes? What will these objects do for me and for the world? I was hungry and I had to work in the fields. I survived hard times, played football, barefooted.

In 1946 as the generation called the “greatest. began to settle down after the war, they began to produce the next generation, that which we call baby boomers. Both these generations lived/live a rich and full life, one that has been reinvented many times over. Against a backdrop of social and political events, our lives are informed and transformed. Each week we’ll present the questions that shed light on how we’ve evolved or gotten stuck -- personally and as a society. This is our collective American story. It’s a powerful one as well as a hopeful one. Welcome to 46-64, the years that made today.

All around us, older women flourish in industry, entertainment, and politics. Do they know something that we don’t, or are we all just trying to figure it out? For so many of us, our hearts and minds still feel that we are twenty-something young women who can take on the world. But in our bodies, the flexibility and strength that were once taken for granted are far from how we remember them. Every day we have to rise above the creaky joints and achy knees to earn the opportunity of moving through the world with a modicum of grace. Yet we do rise, because it’s a privilege to grow old, and every single day is a gift. Peter Pan’s mantra was “never grow up”; our collective mantra should be “never stop growing.” This collection of user-friendly stories, essays, and philosophies invites readers to celebrate whatever age they are with a sense of joy and purpose and with a spirit of gratitude.

Robby Barbaro and Cyrus Kambatta present A groundbreaking method to master all types of diabetes by reversing insulin resistance.
Current medical wisdom advises that anyone suffering from diabetes or prediabetes should eat a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet. But in this revolutionary book, Cyrus Khambatta, Ph.D., and Robby Barbaro, MPH, rely on a century of research to show that advice is misguided. While it may improve short-term blood glucose control, such a diet also increases the long-term risk for chronic diseases like cancer, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic kidney disease, and fatty liver disease. The revolutionary solution is to eat a low-fat plant-based whole-food diet, the most powerful way to reverse insulin resistance in all types of diabetes: type 1, type 1.5, type 2, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes. As the creators of the extraordinary and effective Mastering Diabetes Method, Khambatta and Barbaro lay out a step-by-step plan proven to reverse insulin resistance-the root cause of blood glucose variability- while improving overall health and maximizing life expectancy. Armed with more than 800 scientific references and drawing on more than 36 years of personal experience living with type 1 diabetes themselves, the authors show how to eat large quantities of carbohydrate-rich whole foods like bananas, potatoes, and quinoa while decreasing blood glucose, oral medication, and insulin requirements. They also provide life-changing advice on intermittent fasting and daily exercise and offer tips on eating in tricky situations, such as restaurant meals and family dinners. Perhaps best of all: On the Mastering Diabetes Method, you will never go hungry. With more than 30 delicious, filling, and nutrient-dense recipes and backed by cutting-edge nutritional science, Mastering Diabetes will help you maximize your insulin sensitivity, attain your ideal body weight, improve your digestive health, gain energy, live an active life, and feel the best you've felt in years.

From 2006-2008 Sara helped teach our school programs as a part-time naturalist. In the spring of 2008 she left the ELC to work as a field biologist. She’s worked for The Nature Conservancy, The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, and the United States Geological Survey on research projects related to restoration ecology, water quality, and foraging and reproduction studies of passerines and waterbirds. Sara grew up exploring green spaces around Indian River County, as she was raised right here in Vero Beach. Although Sara connected with the natural world from a very early age, her passion for conservation and natural resource management was ignited during her studies at the University of Florida. In 2004, she earned her B.S. degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from UF. Additionally, Sara’s received training from the National Geographic Society in Watershed Education. Sara originally joined the education team as a full-time Naturalist. She’s thrilled to expand her relationship with the communities ELC serves and strives to promote a life-long, positive, mutually-rewarding relationship with nature. In her free time she enjoys all things nature, cooking, traveling, live music, crafting natural products, aromatherapy, and spending time with her family.

If Marc Miller could have seen the future when he wrote his first book: Repurpose Your Career, A Practical Guide for Baby Boomers, he might have called it Life As You Know It Is About to Change…A Lot.Since the 2008 economic downtown left many Baby Boomers unable to retire, Marc decided to use his own experiences to help others pivot to a career that would fulfill them for the next 20 years. In his second book, Repurpose Your Career: A Practical Guide for the Second Half of Life he addressed the fact that the people seeking him out weren’t all Baby Boomers. Many in Generation X were also either dissatisfied with their careers or were being displaced by ongoing technological and social disruption.Repurpose Your Career third edition responds to another huge shift in work: In this age of disruption, digitization, and the gig economy, people need a new mindset and strategies to become continual learners, create their own flexible careers, and cope with ageism. This book helps them do it. Miller’s Career Pivot.com has been listed as a top career site by organizations including Forbes and Career Sherpa, and his strategies for a career transition have been featured on Mashable, Life Hacker, Money, Flexjobs and Sixty & Me. His second book was listed as one of the best career books of all time by Book Authority.A “recovering engineer,” who spent years working at IBM, Miller’s own career journey started when his bicycle collided with a car, nearly ending his life. The experience changed his perspective on what he was doing with his time and launched him on a search for career fulfillment, leading him to jobs including teaching in the inner city, fundraising for a non-profit, and working for startups. He decided to parlay his experiences—and his engineer’s expertise at breaking big tasks into manageable steps—into helping others find long-lasting career fulfillment.Today, though unemployment is at record lows for all age groups, employee satisfaction numbers have remained low. Everyone wants a job that’s meaningful and fulfilling to them as individuals, but few know how to evaluate an opportunity for those criteria. Instead, they focus on things like money and location, not realizing that more impactful factors to their happiness might include how much time they interact with others, whether the role requires multitasking or single focus, and what level of emotional support they need.Complicating matters is the fact that entire industries can virtually disappear overnight and that many people will wind up doing a series of jobs and side gigs rather than having one long-term role with a single employer. Every worker—regardless of age—needs to avail themselves of every opportunity to learn and grow rather than expecting someone to train them. And they to look not for a role to fill but a problem to solve.Written with professional writer Susan Lahey, Repurpose Your Career, the third edition is not only an easy read but packed with practical information and specific action steps. It’s the guidebook people in their 40 and beyond need to carry them into the next phase of life.

Thanks for listening. So I’ve been thinking about an on-line conversation I was having with my friend and former colleague Jeffrey Ginsberg. It was one of those reflective conversations where we spoke about our heyday in the advertising business - where we held a place at the top of an industry. We congratulated one another on our brilliance and our success - and then the conversation paused - we looked at one another - our faces were not the faces of the 45-year-olds who ruled. And then we became circumspect.
Jeff and I shared a lot of experiences in our industry. And although we came up through the ranks differently, there was a kinship there.
You see, Jeff worked his way up from the bottom, beginning as a messenger for an advertising agency and then steadily moving up the ranks to improbably reach the corner office. He made his reputation on his stewardship of likes of Samsung Motorola, Brother International, and AT&T just to name a few. He would eventually launch his own agency called Badalato-Ginsberg, and then life happened.
So that’s what we’ll yak about today

Andrew has an extraordinary list of guests that are relevant to so many communities. In today's episode, we talk about how podcasts can benefit communities and how the more senior of us can benefit from podcasting. Here's what he has to say.
Need great guests? Find other podcasters and experts that already know what it takes to be a guest and invite them to your program.
Want more exposure? PodcastGuests.com helps in two ways. First, being a guest on another podcast helps spread the word about your podcast. Second, when you invite another podcaster or expert to be on your program, they usually help promote their guest appearance.
After you sign up, I’ll send you a weekly email with opportunities for you to appear on podcasts as a guest. Find a good match? Just fill out the form and your information will be sent to the podcaster.
Looking for other podcasters and experts to be guests on your program? Complete a short form and I’ll send it out in the weekly emails. Interested podcasters will fill out a form with their qualifications and you’ll get access to their information. (They won’t get your email address, so you don’t have to worry about spam!)

SO I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THE CONVERSATION THAT WE DID NOT HAVE THE OTHER NIGHT AND THE DINNER THAT BILLY DID NOT COOK THE OTHER NIGHT- WHAT WE DID THO - WAS GO OUT TO ONE OF THE LOCAL CHAIN RESTAURANTS, ALBEIT ONE OF THE BETTER ONES TO HAVE A HAMBURGER.
IT WAS KINDA NICE TO HAVE THAT BREAK FROM ALL THAT GOURMET COOKING - ADMIRING BILLS TECHNIQUE IN CREATING OUTSTANDING MEALS, SOME OF WHICH ARE ORIGINAL, SOME OF WHICH ARE JUST BETTER VERSIONS OF THE ONES WE HAVE IN RESTAURANTS.
BUT I DIGRESS.
IT WAS WHILE EATING THE HAMBURGER THAT I WAS EAVESDROPPING AMONG THE GUESTS SITTING AROUND US WHEN I OVERHEARD AN INTERESTING CONVERSATION
ONE MORE SENIOR WOMAN COMPLAINED THAT SHE HADN’T DONE HER MAKEUP, AND THE GENTLEMEN SITTING ACROSS FROM HER ( I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT WAS HER HUSBAND SAID “SARAH, WHAT DO YOU NEED MAKEUP FOR - WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO ATTRACT AT YOUR AGE.
AT WHICH TIME THE OTHER WOMAN AT THE TABLE SAID. WELL HONEY YOU ARE LUCKY - AT YOUR AGE YOU ARE FREE NOW, YOU DON’T NEED MAKEUP ANYMORE.
AT WHICH TIME SARAH SAID - ITS NOT THE MAKEUP, BUT THE FACT THAT I FORGOT TO PUT IT ON.
THERE WERE SO MANY THINGS TO UNPACK IN THAT CONVERSATION - VANITY, AGING, BRAIN FUNCTION - SO I THOUGHT I’D SEARCH OUT SOME TRULY REMARKABLE PEOPLE TO ADDRESS MANY OF THOSE ISSUES.
SO THAT’S WHAT WE’LL YAK ABOUT TODAY.---
Let’s face it people in western society are vain. Looking good is almost mandatory. You walk down the street in the big cities and they are teaming with fit, well clothed people with skin that is silky smooth.
But often you see some men and woman, looking a bit disheveled, glasses held up by the tip of the nose. no makeup (not homeless) I just assume that they are intellectuals, professors, scientists etc. WHO DON’T FALL INTO SOCIETIES EXPECTATIONS ON BEAUTY
I’ve always wondered what do those people think about Vanity. So I went and searched out someone who could give us a point of view of what the cost of vanity is.

e often talk about memory loss as we age. We’ve learned the tricks to help us out. Just ask Brad Zupp, our memory athlete. As a result, common wisdom says that age isn’t too kind to our minds abilities. But can iT brain actually be improving as we age. So why not look for someone who can explain it.
Our brains are powerful pieces of machinery that give us the capacity to do amazing things. Unfortunately, common wisdom says that age isn’t too kind to our minds’ abilities. Neuroscientist Thad Polk walks through the actual effects of aging on the human brain and shows that our assumptions might not be so accurate.Dr. Thad Polk has been a member of the University of Michigan psychology faculty since 1996. he was named an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor in recognition of outstanding contributions to undergraduate education, and in 2012 Princeton Review included him on its list of the Best 300 Professors in the US.

Hey thanks for listening. David here and I’ve been thinking about the conversation we had last night at dinner. And while i’m at it, The dinner consisted of a garlic and balsamic marinated skirt steak on the grill with grilled summer squash, zucchini, onions. A great butter leaf salad and a double chocolate cake that bill made for desert.
Once again we found ourselves telling stories about getting older and of course the question keeps coming up “at what point did we realize we were old.

Welcome to yak about today, I’m david yakir and i’ve been thinking. I’ve been thinking about empathy. Theres been a great deal of talk about how the current occupier of the white house lacks empathy. I’m not sure many people know what that means. When Bill Clinton said “I feel your pain” was that an example of empathy.
There are many definitions of empathy that encompass a broad range of emotional states, but basically it is our capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing.
What role does empathy play in today’s modern society? What is the role of empathy in business.
I’ve invited Minter dial, whose new book Heartificial Empathy answers many of those questions. So that’s what we’ll yak about today.
Heartificial Empathy: Now on Amazon
We are Transitioning!
Ralph Fuccillo and David Yakir talk Transitions. What are thinking when as we age. How do we look at ourselves? What do we see in the mirror when we look? What events in our lives shaped who we are?
Is it time to give back to the community on our own terms?

Thanks for joining us. I’m David yakir and you are listening to yak about today. And as always - I’ve been thinkin.
So, that’s what we’ll yak about today.
So my friends you must have noticed that at the beginning of the show I didn’t say i’ve been thinking about a particular topic or we had a guest interview.
Nope, I’ve just been thinking.
You see, every year or so - usually around New Years, I re-evaluate the show. try to find ways to improve the show. Get the feedback. Look at the shows that work - and those that don’t.
Also, I look at the emails and tweets that have recommendations.
And by the way, I enjoy the emails, tweets that are complimentary. The criticisms - well not so much - but they are teaching moments I guess.
and as you all know much of the communications that we in the media receive these days are over the top and extreme at times. The compliments can almost make you feel godly. And some of the criticisms are either borderline hate mail or somewhat threatening.
It used to be that the majority of the hate mail was gay related. That has been surpassed by some very strong opinions about politics.
But as most of you know, This show has been always dedicated to the wiser and more mature of us, covering topic that may be helpful as we age, From technology to health and nutrition - finances, employment opportunities - learning to be an entrepreneur or even how to improve your memory. And at times the arts.
And as you know and hear every week at the beginning of the show, we say if you are familiar with the years 46 to 64 than this is the place you want to be.
But that only works if we are covering the topics that are important to you or have conversations that you relate to.
I always ask this time of year for you to email me or tweet me with your suggestions for topics and conversations that you’re interested in. The more i receive the better the show is.
Sending in your thoughts and ideas allows me to book guests that would be of interest to you.
So, why not take a stab at writing me at yakabouttoday@gmail.com or tweet me at yakabouttoday. And tell me how i can make this show better for you.
So what do we have planned for this season.
Number one, later this season we will be using using a new platform called Spreaker which will allow us to broadcast live over several of the social media platforms.
In addition we are setting up a system where we can take live phone calls live on air.
In addition, when appropriate we will broadcast the show with video when we think the show will benefit more when you can see it. (and of course that will allow you to see my pretty face.)
-------Over the next few months, the team will be developing a new podcast tentatively titled Yak’s Tales.
A biographical podcast where everyone will get to tell the stories that made them who they are today.
We will tell you more as we develop the concept.
Ok, since we don’t have any quests lined up for today, why don’t we rifle through our notes and see if we can find anything of interest for you.
And even though I didn’t schedule a question and answer session today. Something came across my desk yesterday that i thought was interesting enough to chat about.
A listener from Scotland, who is one of my favorite podcasters asked a question - well not so much a question as a statement.
He said - you should have more mental health professionals - some shrinks, therapists - psychiatrists on your show. Maybe you’ll get more insight into what’s going on with - as you say - the wiser and more mature of us.
Well - here’s my story that I’ll share with you.
The study, which was published this month in Nature Medicine , involved mice, but its findings could help to explain how, at a molecular level, exercise protects our brains and possibly preserves memory and thinking skills, even in people whose pasts are fading.Considerable scientific evidence already demonstrates that exercise remodels brains and affects thinking . Researchers have shown in rats and mice that running ramps up the creation of new brain cells in the hippocampus, a portion of the brain devoted to memory formation and storage. Exercise also can improve the health and function of the synapses between neurons there , allowing brain cells to better communicate.
NOW, WHAT WAS THAT STORY I JUST DID.
So now the overarching lesson of the study would seem to be that “If you can, go for a walk.
THANKS TO GRETCHEN REYNOLDS AND THE NEW YORK TIMES.
AM I OLD
there was an article in the New York Times that i found interesting and thought I should share with you. Its the December 13 2018 issue and its entitled “Am I old” This more or less is an extension of exercise can help with memory.
There was a speech given by the philanthropist David Rubenstein that urged more senior people to accelerate” as they entered the next chapter of their lives.
He said Pick up the pace? Because he saw that So many of my contemporaries are stopping — if not stooping — to smell the roses.
When he was asked if he considers himself old, Mr. Rubenstein, now 69 said “69 seems like a teenager to me. At the same time, when he asked the same of a 68 year old poet, who was inbetween surgeries to help her mend after a fall, said point blank, I am an old lady.
What makes one more mature person identify as old when another doesn’t?
And what is “old” anyway.
So old” is changing, as life spans have grown longer. “Someone who is 60 years old today is considered middle-aged,”
So when does old begin?
Dr. Scherbov says that for Americans, it’s roughly 70 to 71 for men and 73 to 74 for women, though, as he has written, “your true age is not just the number of years you have lived.
“The main idea of the project,” “is that an old age threshold should not be fixed but depend on the characteristics of people.” Factors such as life expectancy, personal health, cognitive function and disability rates all play a role, he said, and today’s 65-year-old is more like a 55-year-old from 45 years ago.
Another comparison is that As with beauty, the meaning of “old” also depends on the person you ask. Millennials, now in their 20s and 30s, say that old starts at 59,
Gen Xers, now in their 40s — and no doubt with a new appreciation for just how close they are to entering their 50s — say 65 is the onset of old.
Boomers and the Greatest Generation pegged 73 as the beginning of old. Clearly, much depends on the perspective of who’s being asking to define “old.”
When asking several 50+ friends. There were Dozens of responses, But the most fun ones were their current age plus 4
And of course the most well know replies that are difficult to hear is when you are called ma’am instead of miss and when a man is referred to as sir.
As for me, My brain and the mirror are always in conflict. “Am I young or am I old.
Here’s a tech piece that caught even me by surprise and that is that some states are okaying digital license plates.
So far they are allowed in California, Arizona and Michigan.
digital license plates consist of displays covered in glass that are mounted onto a frame. They come with their own computer chips and wireless communication systems.
They are saying that Some of the benefits of using digital licenses versus old metal ones are the ability to display Amber alerts or stolen vehicle messages when needed, but they could also make it easier to digitally renew license plates over the years. But they are expensive and comes at a price, Currently, they cost $499 for a basic version, and $799 for a premium version that features a GPS navigation add-on.———
I’m so glad they are finally getting rid of that thing call Privacy.
I want to give you guys a three month update on my switch from cable tv to Youtube TV
I couldn’t be more happy. The benefits of moving to an internet based TV system are even more than i had previously thought.
A side note. I’m not speaking about Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime. I’m talking about a cable replacement.
Having said that, Let me tell you the benefits.
Youtube TV is an app that is downloaded to a roku device, or an apple tv.
First, you have to switch your thinking from the way cable tv works to more of a way netflix works.
Better picture quality - 1080p and 4k are better than that of cable tv - especially since 4k is not available with cable.
Most of the cable replacements allows you to run on multiple tv’s and devices without adding extra cost for every tv.
I love the interface for youtube tv which always seems to remember what i watch and when i watch it.
The recording of tv shows is slightly different and in my mind much better. On cable tv you pick you show to record and it records.
In youtube tv, you ad a plus sign to the shows you want to put in your library and next thing you know that programs is always in your library and will be there for a year - and also you have unlimited space.
In addition youtube tv seems to have all the sports stations including tennis - yay_ without the extra cost.
The cost of all of this is.
Xfiinity Cable blast internet is 59.00 plus 41 dollars - tax lncluded
That’s 100 dollars for three tv’s and all our computers, iPad, iPhones etc.
its a win win win.
Marcel likes to highlight companies doing a superlative job in Latin America for upscale travelers. Sometimes you may not have heard of these companies because they’re “inbound” tour companies. You contact someone to book a Galapagos tour, for instance, and a company like Latin Trails is the one actually taking care of you on the ground the whole time. We hit up experienced tour planner Marcel Perkins, who is general manager of that company, for advice on traveling in South America.
How did Latin Trails get its start and where do you operate tours in South America?
Latin Trails started as an extension of a lifelong passion of traveling throughout Latin America. My first trip to Ecuador took place when I was less than a year old. Eventually my parents decided to move from New Jersey (USA) to Quito when I was 7. We kept our U.S. ties but Latin America turned out to be our playground. We traveled the entire continent several times and helped hundreds of visitors organize their trips, and sometimes we led them as well. I decided to give the business a formal turn in 2002 and Latin Trails started as an Ecuador based destination management company.
Today we offer custom trips throughout Ecuador and Peru for travelers who search for private services, customized itineraries, and a 24/7 concierge service for a worry-free trip. To compliment these services we operate 2two boutique yachts in the Galapagos Islands: The Galapagos Sea Star Journey and The Galapagos Seaman Journey. We also run trips on an Amazon riverboat out of Iquitos: The Cattleya for eight passengers. We’ll soon be adding another ship there, Spondias. In Ecuador we will be adding a luxury boutique hotel in Quito for 2017.
Thanks for listening, I’m David yakir and you know I’ve been thinking about the time when I was young and wanted to be a fireman. It followed me one way or another throughout my life. Those stories later. But now I had a chance to speak to a real fireman albeit from Melbourne Australia and how he’s used his experience to coach others. Warning: For the USA audience, listen carefully - accent coming your way. So that’s what we’ll yak about today.
About The Career Project
At The Career Project, we believe that choosing a career or changing career is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make. And we know from experience that you can’t figure it out by sitting at home researching careers online and trawling job search sites.
To make an informed career decision we believe you should get out of the house and experience it in the real world! This means talking to industry insiders face-to-face so you can really begin to understand whether your career idea is aligned with your personality, strengths and values. Industry insiders are also vital to providing you with accurate and timely information in regard to how easy or difficult it is to secure employment in that field, and what you can do to increase your opportunities.
The Career Project will help you identify an Industry Mentor in your area of interest who is willing to share their knowledge at an Informational Interview or Job Shadow Opportunity. Our mentors are committed to helping you make a better career decision by providing you with insights into the role, the industry and the work environment. This is important information that simply cannot be obtained via online research or by attending University Open Days and Career Expos.
The experience with a mentor will validate and test your ideas to see whether your potential career choice is going to suit YOU. This will potentially save you unnecessary expenses such as study fees, business set-up costs and much more if you choose a career that isn’t the right fit.

What can I say. Here's some answers to your questions. And a special tech segment on "How I cut the Cord"
The Maura Sweeney Story
Between 1974 and the present, my transformation from the inside out!
Over the years, I’ve come a long way. When I was a youth and a pre-teen, my grandmother called me “Waterworks” because I could cry at the drop of a hat. Growing up, I felt powerless, isolated, restricted and most of all groomed. In my case, the “grooming” was focused on all my outside accomplishments and attributes rather than from a nurturing of my true self. We’ve all got some kind of outer expectations, parental training and other social messaging that can cause us to go astray from our true self by following what’s outside rather than waiting to bloom from our inner soul.
If pictures could tell a thousand words, then the above series of photos should do just that. They demonstrate how, by choosing to live happy and authentically from my inner thoughts, intentions and choices, I’ve emerged as a brighter and more confident person. Most people remark that I looked lonely and bereft and heavy-laden (even without the suitcases!) in that first image above, yet I was only 15 years old! In the second image, I’m 23 and mid-way through law school studies. About a month later, I couldn’t get up from my own chair to drive myself to class. When I tried to speak, no audible words came out of my mouth. I was unable to express myself!
Many people reach their “Waterloo” moment, but this was mine. Unable to continue in a future 40 year law career and an identity I never wanted, I exited law school and my family’s long held expectations to follow my own path. I needed to feel the light within me reignite and, while I had no idea as to what my next act would be or how I’d proceed forward, I set out on my own journey.
You can read more about my life afterward in several of my blogs and books, but toward career purpose) to today.
I'm lucky enough to think young, act young and keep myself physically young. BUT, am i really too old to go back into the workforce. I asked my new friend Mac Prichard to help me out here.
When Mac’s List began, it didn’t have a name. It wasn’t a company. It was just one person who wanted to serve his professional network and help people find work that mattered to them.
Back in 2001, Mac Prichard started emailing job openings to a few dozen friends and colleagues. He wanted to keep in touch and share great work opportunities that he had found. Today, Mac’s List has grown to an online community of over 45,000 people. But our goals remain the same: to help people discover meaningful work opportunities in Portland, Oregon, and beyond.
Mac’s List is more than a regional job board. We’re the premier resource for helping passionate, creative professionals learn how to find meaningful and rewarding work in Portland, Oregon, and Washington. Besides our job listings, Mac’s List also shares job search advice and resources through our books, podcast, and online courses. And as a Certified B Corporation, we’re part of a global movement to use business as a force for social good. Whether you’re looking for your first job, hoping to find a better job or just need tools to manage the direction of your career, the Mac’s List team is here to help.

Glenn Livingston, Ph.D. is a veteran psychologist and was the long time CEO of a multi-million dollar consulting firm which has serviced several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. You may have seen his (or his company's) previous work, theories, and research in major periodicals like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Sun Times, The Indiana Star Ledger, The NY Daily News, American Demographics, or any of the other major media outlets you see on this page. You may also have heard him on ABC, WGN, and/or CBS radio, or UPN TV.
Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food.
I woke up that morning in a suite at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas. I felt terrible.I was in town for a trade show and the night before a client had taken me to dinner. We ordered these massive, hundred-dollar steaks, drank several glasses of wine, and gorged ourselves on ice cream and desserts.
I’d brought the leftovers back to the room and they were still sitting on the counter. I glanced around the room. Although they had upgraded my room to a suite, the place was run down and sad. There was a Jacuzzi in the middle of the room and the place reeked of alcohol a previous guest had spilled.
I got out of bed and looked at myself in the full-length mirror. I was six-foot-two and I weighed 235 pounds I carried it well, but, not well enough. I felt sick. I was flabby and tired and filled with regret and remorse. I was going through my second divorce, I was in a lawsuit with my first wife, and my blood pressure was so high that my doctor had put me on medicine to control it. Vegas baby!
As I stood in front of the mirror, I asked myself, “How the hell did I get here?”
Part CEO, part personal development wonk, and part biohacker info geek, King is a self-confessed serial entrepreneur. While his favorite book list contains many success-oriented and personal-development classics, the classic definition of achieving success (e.g. make a lot of money) is not what inspires or motivates King. He follows more of a “you aren’t doing well unless you’re also doing some good” line of thinking. King’s company has been built around the simple principle of “do the right thing.”
Founded by King in 1999, Stevia Brands Inc. is one of the largest importers, manufacturers and distributors of clean-label sweetening systems and natural sweeteners. Emulating such renowned entrepreneurs such as the Wright Brothers and Steve Jobs, King started his company by first asking the critical question, “Why?” Based on the understanding that it’s only by determining the “why” of what you want to do that you can achieve lasting success, King’s business isn’t simply something he does for a living. It stands as a testament to who he is, what he does and how he lives his life.
King’s “why” is simple. A bit of a foodie and health nut, food has always been a passion for King — particularly high-quality food that makes the planet a healthier place and maintains a level of sustainability. He founded Steviva as a way to effectively help combat metabolic disease and the “diabesity” (his self-coined term) epidemic in this country by offering clean-label sweetening systems to replace sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup.
Have you ever wondered how yournutrition and the nutritional supplements you take each day affect your overall health? Many doctors, nutritionists, and even fitness trainers recommend taking a multi-vitamin or nutrition supplement to their patients and clients because, in today’s society, most people aren’t getting the vitamins and nutrients they need in their normal daily diet.
Dr. Stephen Lewis talks about the use of dietary supplements and how they affect your lab test results as well as your overall health and wellness. Dr. Lewis is a chiropractor with a long history of helping people achieve their maximum potential.

I'm not sure I ever had a good memory. And now its certainly not as good as it was. Brad promises if we follow him, our memory could be better than it ever was.
Brad Zupp is a man of many talents. After years of performing with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Brad developed successful careers as both a realtor and financial planner. But his real love developed along the way, as what began as an interesting experiment to improve his own memory turned into a passion and, ultimately, participation in the World Memory Championships.
A sample of Brad’s astonishing memory feats includes:
Memorizing a deck of playing cards in 85 seconds
Memorizing 117 names in 15 minutes
Memorizing 1,250 digits in 30 minutes
In our conversation below, Brad shares the secret memory habits he uses — so that you and your kids can use them, too!

Odds are, you won’t be as flexible at age 60 as you were at 20. Or as fast. Or strong. Time affects your body, and your brain comes right along for the ride. Connections between brain cells that make and pull up memories change as we age. And the proteins and hormones that do upkeep in our brains don’t work as well. As we get older, it’s good to know the difference between typical forgetfulness and something you probably should mention to your doctor.

Of course, there are obvious downsides of the geriatric demographic: They may be luddites, fossilized in their ways, or burnt out or lethargic, and—it’s true—the clock is ticking. But researchers are discovering that some cognitive abilities don’t peak until later in life. A study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology last year measured mental abilities among executive job applicants across the age spectrum. Generally, older executives scored modestly lower than younger ones, with the largest drop-offs for subjects older than 60, which is why positions like air-traffic controllers have a mandatory retirement age of 56. Fifteen million more people would be uninsured next year, and the total number of uninsured would swell to 49 million in a decade, the CBO found. This is the part that should concern older Americans. “The increase would be disproportionately larger among older people with lower income,” the 49-page CBO analysis said, “particularly people betweenYak On!
There are classes now being developed around the country that are teaching the boomers how to age. Senior co-housing, and all its complications and rewards, was one of the bigger draws at what amounts to a college on how to age successfully. Its based on the fact that no-one is going to take care of you the way people will that know you.
The four- to eight-week courses, presented by nonprofit organization Iona, were designed especially with baby boomers in mind. Since 2011, a generation that has almost continually reinvented itself also has been hitting retirement age.

In fact, progress has been so encouraging that Apple has already hired consultants to help it navigate the torturous process of getting FDA approval.

It is also a journey of self-discovery, having an impact on the filmmaker, his wider family and many other people in its wake. The Last “Yak About” Interview with Harlan Kleiman 1940-2016 RIP This past week a great friend and frequent guest of the show, Harlan Kleiman passed away. / When he was first diagnosed with prostate cancer, he came to me and said that he’d like to create a series entitled Harlan on Health / in which he would share health information as a healthcare advocate and also document his condition from diagnosis to cure. Unfortunately the cure didn’t come / as it turns out he had a very aggressive cancer that managed to stay ahead of the best doctors. Harlan spent the bulk of his life in both entertainment and finance. A few years ago he made his first foray into the world of healthcare. HeYak On!
David Yakir Endorses Corry Westbrook for Congress from Florida’s 8th Congressional District I’ve only got a few minutes before my next meeting, but I wanted to get this out. I’ll add more when I get some free time. Its not often they you actually get to sit down and chat with a candidate for Congress. One that isn’t set on giving you the talking points. Although we only had 20 minutes for the interview, Corry didn’t spend her time communicating the talking points. When the subject was the economy, she took us through a 20 year look at it from an historical perspective. Like you, the district faces rising costs for fuel and other necessities. The prices of pesticides, contracted flying services, and specialized equipment continue to rise. Annual mosquito control costs are also driven by unpredictable weather and outbreaks of mosquito-transmitted disease. Yak About Inspired Foods 4 U with Bill McDevitt and Bill Brown I thought Id try something new this week. I edited down the show to the discussion of the new service being introduced in the fall called Inspired Foods 4U. The idea behind 4U was that the wiser and mature of us aren’t eating as healthy as we should. They aren’t getting the nutrition needed. And some of the services that provide meal deliveries may have the nutrients, but lack the taste sensation of homemade cooking. The Bill’s talked to many of the wiser and more mature of us and they kept hearing great stories of how good and natural foods came from a trusted grocer or butcher. The survey asked people about their views on the start of old age, with people under 35 saying it was around 61. While marketers are preoccupied with millennials—who became the biggest adult age demo this year—consumers over 50 control 70% of our country’s wealth, making them a significantly greater holiday sales opportunity than their kids. As we plan for the fall season, we decided to forego the video this week. Gearing up for great tech video’s and a whole bunch more come the September season. I’m glad we decided to broadcast while the studio was undergoing its renovations. Quite an eye opening experience. Where we started and where we are ending are much different than our original plans. This week we are going to test out our first out of studio video’s. This week we continue our discussion with Kimball Stadler from Top Dog Performance on Social Media. i realize we are still following the hour format with a half hour show, which doesn’t leave enough time for the intelligence of the guest to make an appearance. I’ll have to rectify the format until we go back to an hour in the fall. Why i’d listen to the podcast instead of watching the video this week! We’ve been playing out our transition from radio to video. The thinking is that we’d do this with our audience in tow – showing you how vulnerable we are to both tech and ego. You will see that we’ve upped the video quality level to just under HD. With that comesYak On!

It is not often that the media takes it listeners and now viewers on the journey of reinvention with them. We’ve been doing that now for about three weeks. We’ve reduced the hour show to 1/2 hour while the studio undergoes its summer long renovation into a modern day video studio. We’ve had our ups and downs with producing the show. Adding the video equipment and the corresponding tech and still meeting I Heart Radio standards has been more challenging than we thought it would be. Hey everyone. We’re still experimenting with video. Posted a temporary low res version of our broadcast. We are experimenting with Lifestream this week which only allowed for a standard definition feed . I’m in the process of editing in the Skype recording of the conversation which is in an HD format. But anyway, we had Douglas Bove as our guest. He recently published a paper on Solar Energy which discusses the technology and its economic implications to society. He’s bringing to our attention an interesting point of view. He believes we are coming to the point where we will have to stop the personal subsidy and tax savings on solar for the individual and develop a policy for subsidizing the energy distributers who will be hurtYak On!
The last of our hiatus programs as I call them. This week we experimented with Livestream. Interesting! Seems that we got many people checking us out to see what we were up to. This week we will sit down and prepare the process and methodology that we intend to follow moving forward. After video recording the show for two weeks and live streaming. My guess is that live streaming won’t be initially as important as taking the video and adding video specific how to’s and releasing a show designed more for video. There was something else that came out of these experiments. Previously, I had prepared the news of the week and studied up on the guests that I was to interview. These last fewYak On!

Now that the cost of production has come down to where we can actually produce the video simultaneously with the terrestrial broadcast. (No, we don’t have Howard Stern’s budget), its time to start understanding what we should do with it. Is it enough to just video the broadcast? The honest answer is NO. Not if this is a vanity play with no purpose. Maybe, if it gives us more distribution outlets or maybe video will help it serve another purpose. When I was approached to do the broadcast, it was a simple matter of saying yes. Didn’t have to pretty up – no makeup and bathing suit casual was the order of the day. So, here I was all set to take my 6 week hiatus from the I Heart Radio “Yak About Tech” series when I get the call. “Was I willing to come in?” It seemed that as a great favor Wayne, my sometime producer, had put in a temporary three camera setup so when we went out via the social networks we can do so in video. One of the challenges of doing a radio/podcast on tech is that so much has to be seen to be understood. With one days notice, it was too close to move up some of the future guests and interviews into the space and a little late to make the calls, so we decided to sit in the studio andYak On!
(UN-EDITED) Herb Oscar Anderson or HOA. They called him the morning Mayor of New York. He was my teenage musical curator on New York’s WABC 77.0 radio from 1960 – 1968. I began listening to music back in 1960 when HOA arrived at WABC until he left in 1968 – when I entered my post beatnik pre-hippie college years. Where did the music start? Elvis for sure. Connie Francis and Jim Reeves were there. The great Marty Robbins singing “El Paso.” Chubby Checker, Brenda Lee and Roy Orbison were playing through my 8 transistor radio with the single ear plug. They were certainly all friends of the Morning Mayor HOA. He was the Jockey that taught America that not all Rock n’ Rollers were bad – still mixingYak On!
Well it’s been an extraordinary week on multiple fronts. We put out teaser for The Yakir Group’s new social media offering “CONVERSATIONS” and the response has been extraordinary. Of course, John and I continued the discussion on the benefits to individuals and executives. I’m posting video excerpts from the show. Probably posted above this post, so you’ve most likely have seen them. So, now that “Conversations” has been introduced, we’ve got another big one coming. Hint: new production group and facilities. So, for now I’ll leave you to listen.
“YAK ABOUT” ? SOME NOTES: The other day I posted a video excerpt of this show. We have been experimenting with turning the radio/podcast broadcast experience to video. As is the usual process, we have been recording the video of the show (thanks Howard Stern) to see where we can take this. We will be developing the video broadcast in small steps. While we do an hour show for I Heart Radio and WAXE, we will do better by recording segments of 5 minutes or less for the “Yak About” Channel. Yes, you read that right. As “Yak About Tech” grew up, we found that although TECH was the foundation of our discussions, the topics ranged from business services to healthy eating. We did showsYak On!
Well, we did our first remote broadcast from Beautiful Tiburon California on the San Francisco Bay. The idea was to hit the tri-fector first time out. The plan – to broadcast over the I Heart Radio network to our traditional broadcast area with Sally and Wayne Dillon helming the controls at WAXE 107.9/FM 1370AM in Vero Beach, Florida. Additionally, we were recording the video feeds of our interviews with Sandy and Harlan Kleiman over skype for our new “Yak About Tech” Youtube channel which I would handle in San Francisco. And of course (wait for it) we would broadcast live over Twitter’s Periscope network. It was a rather daunting undertaking and probably the first time all three were attempted simultaneously. So, how did it go? I travelledYak On!

In addition, this should be the last post where the show is broken down by its broadcast segments, which are two half hour segments. We are working with WAXE and I Heart Media on expanding the show and working on a more segmented format.
