Love Narratives: Recent Episodes

Michelle Zaylar

Love Narratives. A podcast where on-screen relationships meet real life love stories. It’s all about what we see, hear, and say (to ourselves and each other) about love. We’ll discuss love stories both on and off screen, and explore whether the narratives we witness impact what we do with our own hearts and how we write our own love stories. We’ll explore one of each guest’s favorite movies or shows by breaking down which characters they identify with or don’t, especially when it comes to love. And maybe by the end we’ll get to see how/if what we watch affects us in our real relationships.

About the Episode:

In this episode you'll hear conversations about the show, The Queen’s Gambit, along with some personal experiences from both our guest and our host. In this episode of Love Narratives, we discuss being underestimated as a woman in male-dominated environments, and overcoming fear and facing discomfort to find beauty and power in fighting. We also explore how certain movements and behaviors can unconsciously come off as flirtatious, and the experience of intentionally exploring sexual connections in certain scenarios while intentionally taking it out of other contexts and how different bonds can grow as a result. And finally, our guest shares how she paved her own path when she realized the examples she saw growing up weren't necessarily aligned for her and her life.

About the Special Guest:

Mitch Plaise is an artist whose work challenges the observer to recognize their impact in our world. Like a hive of bees, they believe all living things are connected. Individual actions are often reactions in a vicious cycle of cause and effect. They work to disrupt the recurring chain-reactions of trauma. They work in an effort to give the viewer a moment to pause and ask themselves "why?" They work to challenge the ideologies of colonizers that still live strong today and to awaken a new age of healing.

Mitch’s work stands on the shoulders of greats like Gordon Parks and Angela Davis. Humans who wielded their unfiltered lenses at the world and shared what they saw in hopes the future would be brighter.
