Join hosts Tyler and Adam as they discuss the world of social media and digital communications. With their newly formed company Adverb Communications, the pair are helping companies level up their online presence. On the show, these business boys will answer your digital marketing and communication questions, hang out with friends, and have a lot of fun!
The team at Adverb has been working with Jacquelyn and Hunter Cardinal from Naheyawin on our Truth and Reconciliation journey. The dynamic duo joined Tyler and Adam to discuss how they approach this process with companies.
Jacquie and Hunter discussed what they've done with the team at Adverb, and Tyler and Adam shared their perspectives on the impact this work has had on them at Adverb.

Adverb's leaders have worked together for longer than the company has existed—over five years. In this episode, Adam and Tyler are joined by one of Adverb's managers, Erika.
Adam interviews Tyler and Erika about the beginning of their working relationship before Adverb Times, and what they've learned from one another about being good leaders.

When Adverb launched in 2021, we slapped together a quick website. It was intended to be a placeholder until we could organize and build a proper website.
Two years later, we've done just that.
With a refreshed adverbcomms.com, Tyler and Adam took a moment to chat with the new website's art director Andrea Hirji about the design choices made on the new site, and how it elaborates the established Adverb brand.
And though we didn't mention it in this episode, Ask Adverb is sponsored by Highlands Liquor. Check out their selection online at highlandsliquor.ca.

Madison joined Team Adverb at the beginning of May as the company's first student intern. So Adam and Tyler spent some time with her asking how awesome she thinks Adverb is. The answers may shock you... into realizing we're pretty great.

In the corporate world, June is a month when many companies integrate the pride flag into their logos, post some Pride Month messages on social about supporting LGBTQ2S+ communities, and then carry on business as usual.
At Adverb, we want our support for the LGBTQ2S+ community to be deeper, and more meaningful rather than performative. And we're starting to explore what that means for us as a team. You'll hear some of that discussion in this episode, Adam and Tyler are joined by Digital Content Manager Erika Stark. The trio discuss their experiences with Pride Month at other organizations and how they're approaching things differently for Adverb—year around, rather than just in June.

How a brand expresses itself is a choice based on a variety of factors. Some brands are caring, some are funny... and some are truly unhinged. In this episode, the Business Boys are joined by new Adverbian Paige Simpson to discuss examples of unhinged brands—and what makes this trio unhinged themselves!

What does it take to build a brand, and breathe life into it? To help answer that question, we invite creative director Andrea Hirji onto the show. Adverb's been working with Andrea for a few months now on projects both for ourselves and our clients. She's been a blast to have on the team, and we hope you'll agree: it was fun to have her on the show.
Check out Andrea's company Coastal Creative Studio.

Values are an integral part of Adverb's culture. The most important part, actually. That’s why in this episode, the Business Boys talk about where the company’s values started, how they evolved (with key input from Adverb staff), and how the team tries to live these values every day.
After all, you can’t spell “Business Boys” without “boys” and “us.”

ChatGPT, DALL-E... these artificial intelligence systems are all anyone's talking about—often with a bit of trepidation. Will AI steal our jobs? Is there still room for creativity that AI doesn't bring?
We think the answers are "No," and "Yes," respectively.
In this episode, the Business Boys break down how Adverb uses AI to enhance our work for ourselves and our clients. The robots haven't taken over...
Yet.

The Business Boys are reunited! After a short span of parental leave, and some vacation over the holidays, Tyler and Adam talk about the challenges of managing social communities. It’s something on the minds of clients, colleagues and the folks they meet at conferences. The conversation touches on a few different approaches to community management, and some stories from "the road" as they say.
Because it isn't always easy to find other social media professionals with whom to commiserate, the Business Boys have created an online community where we can come together, and share strategies and stories for working in social: the Social Media Support Group. Thanks, as always, to the amazing team at Highlands Liquor for making this podcast possible.

Adverbians Erika Stark and Jackie Macdonald take over the pod this episode. The two digital content managers discuss their experiences with Imposter Syndrome, and how they're learning to trust themselves and the feedback they get. They might actually be good at this (editors note: they are both objectively VERY good at this)!

Business Boy Tyler isn't going to be on the pod for a while. That's because he and his wife are expecting sweet bébé to arrive presently. So, as a sort of farewell (for a month) to Tyler, the Business Boys discuss parental leave, what it means for the company, and how badly Tyler's wife needs a drink!

As social media strategists and managers, we see a lot of negativity and hate online. We try to ignore it because we feel like that's all we can do. We can't just get rid of it... can we? That's what Areto Labs is trying to solve. We speak with co-founder Kasey Machin about Areto's tech and approach to identifying and eliminating online hate.

Let it be known: we love Derek Hovinga from The Inbound Lab. Not just for his silky voice (which is like buttah), but also for his deep knowledge and passion for inbound marketing. We talk to Derek about all things inbound, content marketing and whether or not the death of SEO and email marketing have been greatly exaggerated. Marketing.

For this special episode of Ask Adverb, we pulled the whole team together to tackle a problem. That problem was defined by a robot we found on the internet. That's right: ClientBot has a new product to sell, and we're their digital agency. Did we ask the right questions? Is the client lying to us about the safety of this strange new product? Is "Kiss From A Rose" an appropriate song to measure the length of time you should be brushing your teeth? Answers to these questions and more in our latest episode.
This episode is brought to you by Highlands Liquor. Conveniently located in the beautiful Highlands neighbourhood in Edmonton, the Highlands crew just expanded their space and selection. Check them out online at highlandsliquor.ca.

She's here, she's there, she's every-flippin'-where... her name's Jackie and she's the latest to join Team Adverb. Get to know Jackie in this latest episode of Ask Adverb. She's a marketing and communications veteran and she can sing*! AND you'll be hearing more from her (and our other team member, Erika) in the coming weeks.
It's a full house at Adverb Communications and we couldn't be happier!

If you listened to our previous episode, this one is the pay-off: we make announcements about new staff, a new office and a new sponsorship for the podcast. Tyler also has a huge announcement to share with you all!
Highlands Liquor here in Edmonton now sponsors the podcast, so every episode, we'll have recommendations from their team on what beer, wine and spirits to try (they have 150 of each in their lovely story in east Edmonton). Thanks to Mike and Nate for making this happen!
We'll introduce you to our new colleague in our NEXTepisode, but in this one, we talk about the way we're approaching hybrid work, vacations, and the perks of working at Adverb.
The Business Boys now have a Business Team!

As the Business Boys dust off the old podwebs and get back into making some sweet, sweet audio, they also share some of their perspectives on how things are going in downtown Edmonton. People are coming back to offices and the place is moderately bumping. They also talk about braising, baking and food in general. And, in true Business Boy fashion, they tease some exciting announcements for Adverb coming next month.
Get back into it with Tyler and Adam. And maybe they'll start making consistent pods.*
*they for sure will... more on that next episode.

Maintaining a sometimes-weekly podcast can be challenging at the best of time. Throw a sick loved one into the mix and it's damn near impossible. Adam's been taking some time off while his dad was in hospice care. Unfortunately, his dad passed away on March 13th. So the business boys share a little bit about how this affected them, their business, and what it means for Adverb to provide support to team members.

At Adverb Communications, we love snacks. We can't get through an afternoon without something sweet or salty poured into our mouths. We also like putting our lives in mortal danger, apparently. After a busy week, the Business Boys sit down to answer the Most Important Business Questions™ ever asked... this episode, at least.
What's the best format for a potato to be served in, and why is it mashed? Is the Domino’s Pizza Tracker the greatest gift to humankind? Is copywriter and creative director Jon Manning ever going to be on the show?
Answers to these questions and more in an episode that’s sure to make you want to harmonize your “uhhhs.”

Adverb has grown to the point where we needed to bring in another person to help us deliver for our clients. That's where Erika Stark comes in—both to our company and our podcast.
We've worked with Erika over the past three years, first at ATB, and now here at Adverb. Sure, she has an irrational fear of puppets and the uncanny ability to be in situations that are... odd, but she's an incredible writer, killer communicator and outstanding digital strategist. We're glad she's part of the Adverb team.
Erika, welcome to the strange and fabulous company that is Adverb Communications!

This week, we talk about how things are going with the business (we've learned a thing or two in the last three months). We also introduce the company's new Business Plant (not to be mistaken with Business Plan, which we do not have). And, of course, we answer the tough questions (and softballs) you have for us!

Jeff McLean is one of Canada's leading advertising creatives. If you've lived in Canada in the last 20 years, you've seen his work: like Pride Tape? Orbitz?? Jeff's one of Adverb's great early supporters; he designed our logo and business cards. So when he dropped by the office for a visit last week, we knew we needed to fire up the podmachine.
In this episode, Jeff tells us about the creation of Pride Tape (whose anniversary is sort of today actually), his history in the advertising industry, and what he's up to next.

The business boys have invited one of their close business gals to join them in this episode. Ann Gordon-Tighe, Strategist at Y-Station Communications & Research, was a co-lead of messaging and content on the Amarjeet Sohi for Mayor campaign. She joins the podcast to chat about life on the campaign and to answer questions from Ask Adverb listeners. Ann would like to warn you about her vocal fry. We think it's a feature, not a bug.
