Gorgeous! Congratulations on meeting your deadline. I hope you have a fantastic time at KAN.
My Timely is finished! The colors look quite dark in this pic but I’ll try to get another photo in better light this weekend. It’s a gorgeous teal and deep purple and the buttons match the purple really well in real life.
Still needs a block to help the neckline sit properly but it’s done in time for KAN which was my target.
I totally love to wear it and it fits perfect to blue jeans. I have to admit that my gauge was similar to yours and I wanted it similar fitting to yours. So I listened to the recommendations in your podcast about sizing and it worked perfectly.
Fantastic!! Your tension looks perfect! And the colours are wonderful - I hope you love wearing it!!
Finally I managed to finish this one:
This is my first top-down piece ever and all I can say: it came out exactly how I wanted it. Knitting a cardigan after dozens of shawls was very exciting and I loved the very well written pattern which was easy to follow.
Thank you. :) One yarn is light and dark greys, the other green and those same greys. Has had a really nice effect.
Thank you so much! It was a right palava! I’m hoping that it might get a bit more intuitive the more I do it as I definitely want to include more photos where I’m modelling the finished item. I suspect that it’ll still be a right palava though, haha!
Haha, I love your approach! And thank you so much for your kind comments, I really appreciate you taking the time.
Your Timely looks fab! And well done on the photos - oh the time it takes to get photos! I hear you!!
Your Timely looks fantastic! I hear you in regards to taking photos. I use the ol’ prop-the-phone-in-a-tree/potplant/box/whatever-and-hope-ithe-dog-doesn’t-knock-it-over approach and have a number of ‘interesting’ shots for my efforts. Keep doing whatever you did because your photo is fabulous :)
I started Timely at New Year and got to the sleeves split and started one sleeve but then she went on hold as i had some baby knitting to do. The batch of babies are all here now so i picked up Timely again yesterday and finished one sleeve (but not the cuff as I’m nervous about the length so will leave the finishing of the sleeves to last so i can try it on properly and decide) and started the second. I wasn’t it finished for Melbourne in May which feels achievable now.
Here she is on (finally!):
Side note, this is best of out of a whole bunch of photos! I ended up using a self-timer, but my camera doesn’t have a flip-out screen, so it was a bit of a guessing game. I have so many where I’m slightly on the wrong side of the frame, or there’s too much shadow, or my glasses are reflecting like crazy, or I’m just smiling like a complete loon, haha!
She is starting to pill a bit, but I’ve been wearing her nearly every day and I love her.
I find it tricky to take photos of myself although with a bit of clever propping up of the phone and the countdown function thing on, it’s possible. I generally grab an unsuspecting person, have a back drop in mind and take a bunch of photos!
Your cardy is fabulous - the blues are so gorgeous. Can’t wait to see it on you!
She’s done!!!
I’m going to try and wrangle a set-up which allows me to take a photo of myself wearing her as I do like seeing garments on people. If anyone has any tricks or tips on how to achieve this, they’d be much appreciated.
Oh no but PHEW! That won’t take too long to fix up. You’ll have to show us a photo when you’re done!
Today was the day I was going to finally finish my Timely; however, I got to the last row before the cast off and realised that I hadn’t gone right to the edge on the right-hand front when picking up for the neckline. I have no idea how I managed not to notice before now as the gap is about a centimetre, but I don’t think it’s salvagable (and believe me I considered it every which way!), so I’m going to have to rip the neckline out and start again.
Oh well, at least it’s not the twisted rib section, ey?! ;)
Ah ok. It might settle with blocking but if not - try binding off just a teeny bit tighter. I don’t think it’ll need much.
Hi all. I’m currently working on my Timely, but wanted to see if it is correct to use a larger needle size for the ribbing?
Current progress can be seen here but I’m not that happy with my ribbing.
Today i found 40cm long Knit Pro zing needles so of course i bought a pair for my next top down cardi!
Sounds like you may have just created a market for custom-made, extra long needles :)
My fingers are crossed that it all goes well. Good Luck!
I’m currently 8 rows away from the maximum stitches I’ll need for the fronts, back and sleeves, and they squish up on my long straights ok for now, but once I have the extra ones on there, it’ll be getting close to capacity. I think that I’ll be fine so long as I don’t have to put my work down at that stage, so the plan is to blitz those last 8 rows on the weekend, and then put everything bar one sleeve on stitch holders, knit one sleeve, then knit the second sleeve, and then put the rest back on straights (which should be fine without the sleeve stitches) and knit down the body. It sounds simple… and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out.
This could open up to me all those top down patterns I’ve discarded in the past because I thought they couldn’t be done without circulars!
WooHoo, Timely on straights! I must admit, my stitches look so much neater when I use straights as opposed to circulars, especially if I put my project down for an extended period. How did you go with juggling the all those stitches? As you say, at least it’s only for a short while.
Aw thank you! I’m happy with my needle situation now and hoping to make progress this weekend. I love my colours too!
Thank you for the encouragement. Not sure if you remember me pondering my colourway in your Knit to Fit class at KAN? I had a speckly contrast with my purple that i just wasn’t sure of so now i’m keeping the purple but the teal is my A colour and i love it.
