You would have to be living under a rock right now to not have seen the hype that has been the lead up to the barbie movie.
Barbie is an icon, perhaps the best known toy in the world.
I myself grew up idolising barbie. I loved everything about her. Dressing her up, pretend play, brushing her hair, it really was just like the song. She was a big part of my child hood.
However, arguably, once the naughties generation was born, Barbie seemed to be missing their mark with this very aware generation. They were no longer relevant, it was a dying brand, and they were leaving a legacy that some might say was a smudge sexualised, monogamist, and all in all a highly questionable brand.
The traditionally thin-waisted, blonde-haired doll has long been criticised for setting unrealistic body standards. Even after Mattel introduced a Curvy Barbie in 2016 and then barbies that represented a different, wider demographic group, they still missed the mark, the original Barbie has stuck in people’s minds and for good reason, people buy into aspiration, for better or worse, people don’t buy into air quotes normal.
So how has Mattel managed to turn it all around with the Barbie movie? Well, have a listen, I think this is sheer business brilliance.
In today's episode I share with you a learning process I've gone through to help me make the hard decisions I need to in life, to not live a subpar life.
Following on from my psychology trend lately, this one is a deep dive into some key learnings for me.
It is a big conversation, and a time where you really have to consider your role in your life, what you want from life, and where you want this thing called life to go.
In the episode I refer to a 4-step framework I use to help me to uplevel my life.
This is the 4 step process in which I analyse situations and my life.
Step 1 – Reflection
In my personal development practice I like to reflect. Whether this is a conscious exercise where I sit and spend half an hour journaling, meditating, or just thinking about my life and where I am at, or now that I practice it more regularly, reflection might look like a car trip, a walk, a bath, or a quiet time where I take a moment to assess.
Step 2 – Awareness
Once you reflect you have to become aware, aware to what is around you, your actions, your reactions, the actions and reactions of others, but most importantly what you want.
Step 3 – Consider
Consider what better response you could have had, how things could of gone differently, your part in the situation, others parts in the situation, the seriousness of it, the outcome of it, and how it sits with you. Try to take the emotion out of it and look at it logically, but then also understand your emotions to it and whether they are rationale.
Step 4 – Adjust
Is it something that needs to change? Is it the entirety of the relationship or situation or is there an area you can address to get what you need from the situation.
Have a listen and see if any of this resonates for you.
In Today's episode I dive into leadership and relationships.
How the two intertwine with eachother and what makes a great leader.
I talk through using connection as the driving force to become a great leader, in turn, creating a great culture.
But to understand how to achieve connection, you need to understand human phyche and how people work.
I share my summarised version of the psychology of people and what capacity people need to have to be in a place to develop strong connection, and once they've reached that place, how then do you connect with people based on their learning style.
These are just a few of my recent musings...
I then share how this can be used to become a great leader.

In today's episode I talk about whether it is important to have something with 'thud value' for a service based or online business.
What I am talking about here is a physical brochure, book, or something else along those lines that makes up a part of your product ecosystem.
This is more me hypothesising on my plans for what I am doing and why I want to add a physical book into my product mix. But I also put the shoutout to you, is it relevant any more? Is it needed?
There's 3 potential benefits I see around credibility, professionalism and a point of difference, but what you you think?

Today's show is a little different. It isn't business at all. it is about money, and in fact, kids and money. As my youngest turns 1 it means it is also the time I set up his investment account to start investing for him.
In this episode I share how I try to educate my kids around money, but also how I invest for my kids and what that looks like.
It is something I get asked about often so I thought I'd go off the usual track here to share something a little different.
DM me on Insta to let me know what you think and what you do around money.

In the Business Brains Money Method I teach to have a separate bank account for fixed and variable expenses in your business. Recently I was asked if it is really necessary to split these expenses into two accounts or could you just use one? Here are 5 reasons why you should absolutely split these accounts. 1. To monitor your cost to serve as easily as looking at the balance of a bank account. 2. To know if you need to spend more on marketing. 3. To know if you are making a Return on Investment (ROI) in your marketing. 4. To easily know if a project/s costs have blown out and review why. 5. To pick up on underperforming areas in your business faster By separating your accounts, you can easily be sure that your numbers in your business are working, and you are on track to meet your goals. It allows you to assess where your business is at in any point in time with just a quick glance of your bank accounts.

Many business owners focus on sales price or discounting to move more products, but this can be a mistake. Profit should be the main focus. Profit is the reason you're in business. "Turnover is vanity and profit is sanity." Sacrificing profit for sales can hurt your bottom line. Focus on the gross profit you make on each product. This allows you to maximize your profit and ensures your team is focused on selling higher-margin products. By focusing on gross profit, you can increase profits and improve your wealth. Don't sacrifice profit for sales. Focus on gross profit and selling higher-margin products to improve your business's bottom line and increase your wealth. The Profit-Boosting Magic of Selling Higher-Margin Products. A case study of finding profit for a retail store Running a business is tough, especially when profits are thin. But sometimes, all it takes is a little strategic thinking to turn things around. Take this case study for a retail store, for example. They were struggling to turn a profit, but with a little help and knowing their numbers, they managed to improve their gross profit margin and boost their expected profits by over $200,000. Here's how it works. Step One: Review Your Products and Calculate Gross Profit Percentage - They took a look at their product offerings and calculated the gross profit percentage for each product. This helped them identify which products were driving the most profit and which ones were dragging them down. Step Two: Set a Target for Average Gross Profit Margin - Once they knew where they stood, they set a target for their average gross profit margin. This gave them a clear goal to work towards. Step Three: Identify Lower Margin Products to Improve - With their target in mind, they reviewed all their lower margin products to see if they could improve their margins. They increased prices on some, found better suppliers for others, and stopped selling some altogether. Step Four: Set Up a Sales Pathway for Higher-Margin Products - With their product lineup refined, they set up a sales pathway to guide their team towards selling higher-margin products. They set individual gross profit margin targets for each team member and held them accountable for reaching them. Step Five: Review, Refine, and Repeat - They now regularly reviewed their progress, refine their strategies, and make adjustments as needed. Thanks to these five steps, they are able to improve their gross profit margin by over $200,000. What's more, they did it all while still providing great products and service to their customers. So, if you're looking to improve your business's bottom line, don't be afraid to focus on higher-margin products. It just might be the magic bullet your business needs!

In today's episode I share 5 Ways to Make Your Home Page a Customer Magnet Your home page is like the online equivalent of a storefront. You wouldn't want potential customers to be scared away by a dingy, cluttered, or confusing storefront, would you? So why risk it with your home page? A poorly designed home page can cause potential customers to click away faster than you can say 'lost sale.' Don't let that be your business! Here are five ways to make your home page irresistible to customers. "Who are you and what do you do? (In two sentences or less)" - The Elevator Pitch "What makes you special? (Hint: Be the best at something!)" - The Unique Selling Proposition "Who do you serve? (Be specific!)" - The Target Market "How can you solve their problems? (Focus on benefits!)" - The Value Proposition "What do you want them to do next? (Call to Action time!)" - The Conversion Strategy "Remember, your home page is like a virtual first impression. You want potential customers to be wowed, not weirded out. By following these five tips, you'll be well on your way to creating a home page that customers can't resist. Happy converting!"

I'm excited to share some tips with you today that will make managing your money so much easier. As you know, I've been on a bit of a money thread lately, and I wanted to share something with you that you might not know about: managing expenses in your accounting software. While the basic chart of accounts in software like Xero or MYOB is a good starting point, it might not be enough for tracking your expenses effectively. If you don't break up your expenses enough, it can be easy to lose track of where you're spending your money. For example, if you spend certain costs on certain products, it would be helpful to have each of these products separate in your chart of accounts. That way, you can see how much money each product is making and what its cost to serve actually is. Similarly, if you have multiple subscriptions, it's important to divide them up into their own accounts, so you don't pay for expenses that you don't need. I have my own Business Brain's Money Method, which involves allocating each type of expense to a different bank account. I also like to add what those bank accounts are in front of each of my charter accounts. By doing this, it's easier to know what you're actually looking at and what expenses are going under what account. If you're not already customizing your chart of accounts, I recommend that you explore your accounting software and see what extra accounts you can set up. In Xero, for example, you can click on the accounting tab and then scroll down to the advanced chart of accounts. This is where you can see what accounts you have set up for your business and customize them to titles that make sense for you and your business. It's really easy to do this, and you don't need an accountant to help you. You can look at the way the settings are for the same type of expense and match that in what you set up for your own chart of accounts. By doing this, you can easily track your expenses and make sure you're getting value for money. I find customizing my chart of accounts really helpful and empowering, and I think you will too. So, if you haven't already, go ahead and dive in to your accounting software and customize your chart of accounts to suit your business. It's a simple step, but it can make a big difference in managing your money effectively. Listen to the episode to find out more. I wanted to introduce you further to my Business Brains money Method. As you may know, this is something that's been included in my course from the very beginning, but recently I've had a huge breakthrough and taken it to the next level. I'm really excited about what this means for the future and how we can use the Business Brains Money method to better understand and leverage our businesses. One of the things that I know many people struggle with when it comes to running their business is managing their cash flow. Often, they're just leaving it to their accountant to handle and not really taking an active role in understanding what's going on. Additionally, they may have goals for their business but don't know how to reach them. That's where the Business Brains Money Method comes in. It not only provides a way to manage your money, but it also helps you tangibly manage your business growth and identify what your business needs to get where you want it to be. It's really powerful stuff! I've been working on some changes to the method, and I'm excited to be rolling them out in my Launch Your Business Now course. I've already done a test run in my own business and my mom's business, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. I can't wait to see how it goes when we roll it out to my students. So, what exactly is the Business Brains Money Method? At its core, it's a simple cash flow management system that's designed to be easy to understand and use. Too often, businesses are just looking at their profit and loss statements and not really sure what they mean. I wanted to give people a better understanding of their finances so they can make more informed decisions about their business. To that end, I've developed a system that breaks down your cash flow into percentages and splits it out into different accounts. This helps you easily manage your money and know exactly what you have available for different areas of your business. You don't have to be an accountant to use it - it's designed to be accessible and intuitive. If you're struggling with cash flow management in your business or just want a better understanding of your finances, I encourage you to check out the Business Brains Money Method. It's a game-changer and I'm really excited to be sharing it with my community. Listen to the episode to find out more. In a past podcast episode, I shared my thoughts on the potential of the AI world and where it is heading. I introduced the AI onion layers where the first layer is automation software, the second layer is actual artificial intelligence programs, and the third layer is when we could use these two layers together. Well, in this episode I dive further! This is the game changer when automation and AI can work together. The combination of narrow AI programs will give rise to a General AI which is like having a free virtual assistant for your business. This is mind-blowing! AI is already being used in businesses through plugins, and it is only going to become more common. These plugins can make your software and programs better, and you can use artificial intelligence in your business today. The future is looking bright, and I believe that we are going to see a significant transformation in AI in the near future. We are getting closer to the point where we can interact with AI and marry it with other platforms, and that is going to revolutionize the way we live and do business. Narrow AI programs exist for various tasks such as creating text, audio, voice, and images. General AI that combines all areas of narrow AI is expected to come to light very soon, and it is mind-blowing. It is essential to note that AI will not replace humans but enhance their work. It can free up their time to focus on other essential tasks and improve work efficiency. AI has immense potential in various fields and can change the world for the better. P.S These show notes were generated by AI from my podcast transcript. I discovered something that has completely blown my mind and made my life, as well as my students', so much better. As many of you know, I am absolutely obsessed with using artificial intelligence (AI) to help out in business, and I truly believe that it is a small business owner's best friend. As an entrepreneur, I understand that we don't always have the time or resources that larger businesses have, and so we must be scrappy in order to succeed. That's where AI comes in. It's a game changer, and I'm absolutely thrilled to share this discovery with you. Now, let me tell you what happened. A little while ago, I was looking for a copywriter to turn my podcast transcripts into blog articles. I wanted to have written content to go along with my audio and video content, and to really step up my repurposing game. However, I found that the cost of hiring a copywriter was high, and I wasn't completely satisfied with the quality of the articles. That's when I had an idea. I decided to try out an AI program called Chat GPT. This program, developed by OpenAI, is an artificial intelligence text generator that can be asked anything and will provide a response by accessing the worldwide web. I had used Descript, a program that transcribes audio and video files, to create a transcription of my podcast. Then, I pasted the transcription into Chat GPT and asked it to turn it into a blog article. To my surprise, Chat GPT generated a couple hundred words of summary from the podcast. Of course, I had to play around with it a bit and be careful with the prompts I gave it. Sometimes, it came out as if it was talking to the audience in third person, which was not what I wanted. But overall, I was impressed with the quality of the articles it produced. Using AI to help me with my content creation has been a game changer. Not only has it saved me time and money, but it has also provided me with a new level of creativity and inspiration. I encourage all business owners to consider using AI to help with their content creation and other aspects of their business. Trust me, it will be your new best friend. P.S. ChatGPT wrote these show notes! And created the content for the Instagram carousel for this episode. Impressed yet? My focus lately has been on really thinking about how you can come up with the BEST business idea possible to give your new business the best chance of success. Something that sparked my interest is an earning potential value chain Shaan Puri mentioned where there are 5 levels of earning potential. In today's episode I discuss this and how you could use this concept in helping you decide on your business idea. In this episode, we cover the following: -The 5-stage earning potential hierarchy Level 1 - Logistics and Labour - Trading your time for money Level 2 - Optimisation - Incrementally making things better, a manager type role. Level 3- Performance - Paid to perform - Influencer/Podcaster/Youtuber/performer Level 4- Creativity - Coming up with the concept/idea/product and creating something new Level 5- Judgement - Getting paid for your judgement alone, think Warren Buffett SHOW LINKS Check out my new short course, ‘The Idea Accelerator.’ The self-paced short course to help you decide on a business idea, an idea that it is viable and people are willing to pay for. My guest today Lou is a Kitchen Coach, Mama and once-upon-a-time salad slinger to the Sydney CBD. Lou bought the concept of 'healthy lunch delivery' to the city in 2013 when you had to walk 45 minutes to get a half decent bowl of greens. These days she supports busy driven women to spark a passion for cooking. And to never ever ever ever feel disempowered around food, cooking or their ability to feed themselves and their family. Despite having full lives, businesses, careers and calendars. This is something a little bit different for the show. In this episode, we cover the following: -Why it is important to look after yourself to perform at optimal levels when starting or running your business. -How to create easy fast meals. -Healthy doesn't have to be hard.
I have a new course coming out soon, The Idea Accelerator. This course will help you develop, clarify, and test your business idea before launching. It is covering some big topics, and, in this episode, I wanted to just flesh out some of the concepts I want to include in the course, so you get to share in my reasoning and formulation of ideas. Really it gives you just a little insight into my brain. In this episode I cover; - The biggest risk when having a business that nobody talks about - mediocrity risk. - Market risk - Does anyone even want it? - Execution Risk - Can you do something better than it has been done before? - Technical Risk - You have an idea for a technical solution that you need to create though innovation, but you aren't sure if you can actually build it? There are key stages every business goes through in their business journey. My goal is to get you to the beautiful lifestyle stage of business as fast as possible. That is the sweet spot to me and where you get the money, freedom, and flexibility you set out to have when you started your business.
In this episode, we cover the following: -The 9 key stages of Business, which are -Idea Stage You have an idea, or you have a hundred. You need to test it to see if it is viable and decide how your business will look. -Startup You have officially started your business, you are doing all the things such as setting up a website, doing your branding, and getting your first sales. -Solopreneur You are off and running with your business, but at this stage it is just you doing all the things and the business is 100% dependent on you showing up to earn the money. -Scale Just before you burn out you realise something has to give and you start to build out your systems, processes and your teams to scale your business. -Lifestyle Business It is then you make it to beautiful lifestyle business stage (my jam), at this stage you might be turning over $400k to $1m, with a 30-50% profit (depending on business type), and you'll have a few people in your team and you are no longer trading your time for money and are able to have the freedom, flexibility, and money you set out in business in the first place to have. -Growth Want to go bigger? That's cool! Here, you need to completely redo your business systems and processes again with teams in mind. You might have a board, but you'll definitely have managers looking after key areas of your business such as Sales, Marketing, HR etc. Your profit will drop as you invest to scale, but revenue will soar. -Big-small business This is a nice stage for an established business, and often where generational businesses sit. You have a big team of staff; you will likely not be 'on the tools' anymore. You have people for everything, your role might be just to manage that. -Small-big business Things are getting serious here, you might open to private equity investors and really be wanting to grow this business into something BIG. 100+ employees and growing! -Listed Here is where you launch on the stock exchange and you now answer to your shareholders and you manage the business, if you stay on as CEO that is. There is good money to be made if you can get a business to this point, but don't underestimate the work involved. Should you put pricing on your website? You see this asked in business forums time and time again and it can divide people in their opinions. So, should you? Well for me I am a hell yes!!!! Here is share why.
In this episode, we cover the following:
Why people don't put their pricing on their website:
-Fear of their competitors knowing their pricing
-They don't have a solid idea of what their prices are or haven't niched down enough
-They use it as a sales tactic to lure you in
-They think they will lose the potential ongoing marketing opportunity
-They are price kickers
-They don't know their worth or don't believe in their pricing.
Why you should put pricing on your website:
-Transparency
-Cull people who aren't going to buy to save you time.
-Trust (remove the feeling of being ripped off)
-Break affordability beliefs (if it's not shown it must be too high)
-Helps people prepare
-Forces you to productise your service.

Today on the podcast I had one of my dear friends and a fellow Financial Adviser who I have known for 7 years if not more now.
You would have heard me in the show talk about why it is important to hold your peers close and that there is never competition, and this relationship is a perfect example as to why, we ran businesses at the same time as each other, in the same industry, but leant on each other for support over the last 7 years when we needed it as fellow business owners and I will always cherish that. As a side bar to this episode, reach out and find your people. Support & lift each other up!
Back to the episode, Pat is on today to talk about what happens if things go wrong in business. What do you do? And Pat not only helps advise business owners on what to do in their businesses but has first-hand experience on how you can manage it well, and what happens when it isn't managed well.
Pat was very generous in sharing his experiences in business.
Pat has been a financial adviser for the past 15 years and a business partner in the practice he works in for the past 7 years. He currently has a team of 5 advisers / business owners and 17 support staff with locations in Albury Wodonga, Wangaratta and Benalla. In addition to providing holistic values-based advice to individuals, Pat also helps businesses protect key people in the business and the business itself when there is a critical event such as the death or disablement of a business partner or key person and the agreements in place should a business partner wish to join, leave or if there is a falling out between key parties. As his own business has not been immune to such events, he shares his story and how they protected their business and themselves with prior planning and shareholder agreements at the time of buying into the business, and what happened when their majority shareholder was forced out of the business due a serious illness.

I share 5 things that you are doing that are making starting a business harder than it needs to be.
Those 5 things are:
-Following too many people telling you to do too many different things
-You are expecting everything to be perfect before you actually release your business out into the world.
-You are putting your new business off rather than finding people to keep you accountable.
-You are doing it alone rather than seeking support that you might need
-You are doing the wrong things, it might be the things that seem easy or the things you see everyone else doing. But it’s not actually the things that are getting you closer to your goal of starting your new business.

It's the strategy that underpins the business and the foundations.
In this episode, we cover the following:
