"The Last Leaf" by Roxanne Hoffman (A response to Wilhelm Müller's "Winterreise-Letzte Hoffnung" or "Last Hope")
"Joan" originally appeared in the online journal LUCID RHYTHMS. The form is French Virelay from the French 'virer', "to turn or veer", a medieval French poetic form. The poem is meant to be chanted or sung twice and has interleaving or chain rhyme scheme (a b a b b a b a a c a c c a c a) with lines of varying length. The title is the 1st line of the poem.

A poems inspired by Wilbur Wright's letter to Octave Chanute, dated May 13, 1900. “For some years I have been afflicted with the belief that flight is possible by man.” is the first sentence Wright's letter. In the second paragraph of the same letter, Wilbur Wright explains how “knowledge and skill” are critical to man’s flight. The incidents mentioned are documented in Wikipedia and other sources.

"Many Have Asked How We Stay Together," my response to Shakespeare's Sonnet 115, is now up on David Morneau's 5 OF 4 MUSIC website (http://www.5of4.com/love_songs/poets.html). Last August, David contacted me, after getting my name from fellow writer Susan Maurer, to participate in his "Love Songs" project. A composer, he is creating a set of songs based on Shakespeare's Sonnets. Each song is actually a pair of poems: one sonnet and one contemporary poem.
"Dare I" was written in 2004. An excerpt from the poem was recited by actor Rick Poli during his 2005 indie flick LOVE AND THE VAMPIRE produced and directed with co-star Dave Gold. This track, performed by the author, was released in 2006 on a CD titled STOLEN MOMENTS from Poetry Thin Air and later that year by the author in limited edition self-published chapbook by the same title.
The text of the lyrics for this piece has been accepted for publicaton in the premier issue of DARK EYE GLANCES, a new Canadian dark poetry magazine. Musical composition (harpsichord & flute) by author, Roxanne Hoffman.
A recitation of "Dare I" by Rick Poli was used as voice over for the independent film "Love and the Vampire," directed by Poli and also co-starring co-producer Dave Gold. "Dare I" was developed independently of the film and modified by the producers for use in the film. This version was released in the cd "Stolen Moments" (Poetry Thin Air).
This track was first released in the CD of the same name from Poetry Thin Air. The poem was first published in The Riverside Poetry Workshop: Poems, Volume 8, edited by Arthur Bitterman.
"The Slayer" was written specifically for the independent film Love and the Vampire directed by Rick Poli and produced by David Gold, Producer and Host of the David Gold Show on Manhattan Cable TV. A recitation of the poem by Gold was recorded and used as a voice-over during the film.
