I'm reaching out because I'm leaning on my community on this one.
I wanted to let you know, we're launching a SeedInvest campaign on Sep 25 and have aligned a bunch of press and influencers to help us get the word out. This means, thanks to Obama and the JOBS Act, we'll be able to raise investment capital from any and everyone. The only caveat is our minimum investment amount is $500.
In this game, you have to scrap for everything you eat. With that being the case, we've made a ton of progress and would like to invite our friends, our peers, our users, and our supporters to join in on what's to come next. Thanks to Obama and the work he's done with the JOBS Act, now every and anyone can invest in companies &...

Recent reports about tax hikes, black land loss, and the near extinction of Gullah culture in the Lowcountry of regions of Georgia and South Carolina have made headlines in the New York Times, and featured on national TV networks like CNN. Missing from these reports is an account of how these unique African Americans emerged in the national imagination as distinct populations whose traditions should be documented and examined.
Enter Melissa L. Cooper, an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Rutgers University-Newark. Her groundbreaking book, Making Gullah: A History of Sapelo Islanders, Race and the American Imagination (University of North Carolina Press), is set to be released on April 17, 2017. It is the first book to trace the construction of the Gullah identity. Using Sapelo Island as a case study, Cooper unearths the intellectual and cultural trends that inspired, and continues to inspire, fascination with Gullah culture and their African roots. In addition, Making Gullah tells a larger story about race and the American imagination; offering readers an opportunity to discover the complexity of an identity famous for its simplicity and timelessness.
About Melissa L. Cooper
An emerging expert in Gullah history and the history of race in the American imagination, Cooper’s research has attracted interest outside of the academe, and has resulted in several public appearances. She is a featured scholar in the new digital documentary, "Between the Waters: Hobcaw Barony," sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and produced by South Carolina Educational Television. She was also a featured scholar at a “talk-back” that followed Trutus Theatre's Presentation of "Appropriate" in Columbia, South Carolina in February 2016. Cooper has delivered dozens of talks exploring Gullah history, which include presentations at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and at Avery Research Center, Charleston, South Carolina.
Cooper’s professional background extends beyond her current work as a professor and historian. She spent more than a decade teaching history in New Jersey’s public schools, and as a result was featured in two radio documentaries: the first, “Probing the Minority Achievement Gap,” aired on National Public Radio in May 2004, and the second, a 2008 Peabody Award-winning documentary, “Minding the Gap: Why Good Schools are Failing Black Students.” Cooper has engaged public audiences for years: in 2006, Cooper was a cohost on the PBS show, Real Moms, Real Stories, Real Savvy.
Cam Awesome
Keynote Speaker | Emcee | Comedian

Cam was overweight and bullied in school. After being cut off of every team in school and never playing a single organized sport, in 2006, he decided to join a boxing gym in his neighborhood to lose weight and build a little bit of confidence. Little did he know that on top of accomplishing those two personal goals rather quickly, he had just taken the first step on the road of becoming a champion.
Cam quickly moved through the ranks and qualified for the 2008 Olympic trials. While falling short of an Olympic goal would discourage and dishearten most, when Cam was told that he would not be making his Olympic debut at that time, it only fueled his fire all the more. Mr. Awesome continued boxing and won nationals in ‘08, ‘09, ‘10, ‘11, and won the Olympic trials in 2012, only to be kicked off the Olympic Team and suspended for an entire year for a rule violation discrepancy.
After the smoke cleared and disappointment set in of being removed from the team and losing his housing, Cam realized he was homeless and had never made any plans after sports. Cam slept on a friends couch for a year, all the while battling depression,
substance abuse, and weight gain. Towards the end of that year, he lost a bet and had to become a sober vegan for 28 days, and that changed his life. Cam decided to legally change his name and killed off the old to make room for the new Awesome attitude and stepped back into the ring with a renewed and strengthened
determination.
He began boxing again, lost 70 pounds and regained his spot as the #1 Heavyweight in the country in 2013, and also began doing stand- up comedy and public speaking. Cam had seen where not having a Plan B would leave him and he knew that that was nowhere if sports were to not work out again. He went on to winning Nationals in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016. In 2015, Cam had a post- fight interview with ESPN, where he dubbed himself “Not, not the Taylor Swift of Boxing” that went viral and truly pushed his
comedy and speaking career to new heights.
Cam went on to win the 2016 Olympic trials before losing in international completion and was unabl...
