Creative to the bone, Tara has dipped into freelance work from time to time and dabbled in other medium such as music, but it is "big brands with many eyes" where she thrives.
We talk about her time at Ticketmaster; particularly who and what set her up to succeed in the industry, Richmond; the dark years and the golden ones, and now life at the Titans.
Tara gives the inside scoop on team meeting rituals, behind the scene video/graphics content and projects that never make it to the public eye.
We discuss the importance of female representation in the industry, who inspires her as well as her eagerness to continue paying it forward to the next generation of female creatives.
Tara shares her perspective on the "buy in" for the club you work for, artificial intelligence, experience vs certificates, professional development, imposter syndrome, leadership and more.

With a 9-5 career as a draftsman for over seven years, a fast-and-loose Kurt picked up a camera one holiday and instantly found love. It was not long after this vacation fling that he decided to study the art, make it it his second job before quickly taking the plunge into full time self employment.
Kurt shares his growth story; from how maintaining a presence on his Instagram page miraculously catapulted him to the United States to photograph the most legendary golfer of all time... (yes, that one).
We talk about some of his work with FOX Sports, NRL side Brisbane Broncos, NBL side Brisbane Bullets, Australian Super Netball and golf brand TaylorMade.
We get a bit philosophical in this episode and talk about success and failure, living in the moment and striving to always be better.
Kurt breaks down some of the things he is looking out for when he is doing a shoot, how he operates while on set, content IP and shares a really great story involving his camera and roller-blades.
We talk motivation, inspiration and who he likes to follow online.

As a kid, rather than immerse in colouring-in books, Josh preferred to draw on blank paper. To him the bold black printed lines were like prison bars, confining the infinite creative opportunities of a blank canvas. And although getting steered away from the creative industry during his schooling years, Josh eventually found his path to Graphic Design through his tertiary education and eventually Port Adelaide Football Club via some unique employers.
In this weeks episode, we discuss the roles and responsibilities of an AFL club's Multimedia Graphic Designer.
Josh talks us through the ethos of Port's Men's and Women's collateral, the value of the AFLW and the importance of First Nation's Rounds.
We dive into commercial partners and integrations, taking and giving feedback, as well as the pros and cons of working remotely.
With a rapidly evolving industry, we theorize what the future may look like for sports creative, the best skills to have, advice for those looking to get into or level up in the sports creative industry and reflect on some good and bad trends making their way around this year.
Finally we get some truly amazing recommendations from Josh on who we should be following:

Brisbane born and raised, Luke grew up both watching and playing sport.
Not until finishing school, studying law, working at Woolies and interning for some local football teams did the freshfood kid realise where his career was destined to go. It was through those internships that Luke unlocked his network and opened up substantial work opportunities at Brisbane Roar and now Brisbane Broncos.
In our conversation with Luke we talk about his career progression and working at the powerhouse club; the Broncos. We explore the creative work not commonly seen at the club and his heavy involvement with the very popular 2023 Broncos City Jersey.
With tradition, we asked Luke for his perspective on working in the industry as well as getting his recommendations on who we should be following online.

With a true passion for the product, there was nothing stopping Shaun from making bold moves to progress his career.
A young South Adelaidean fascinated with the designs of team uniforms, Shaun's young obsession manifested into a career that has taken him across the globe. Starting in design at a local sportswear manufacturer in Adelaide and taking opportunities where they presented, Shaun became increasingly frustrated that the "design department" was not valued in the industry and left himself looking outside that department to further his career.
When an opportunity to move to China to work in factory kept presenting itself, Shaun finally took flight...
In today's episode we talk about the earlier years of the sports creative industry and the lack of positive networking and community. The culture shock of moving to China, his role as a Product Operations Manager and what design departments look like in bigger organisations. Shaun shares some of his thoughts on good and bad apparel and the most important things to be doing in the sports creative industry.
As always, we asked for recommendations on which creatives we should be following and Shaun didn't disappoint (with links to all Shaun's mentions on the episode 53 page on our website).

Marie Erker is the Head of Design at the North Queensland Cowboys, a professional rugby league team in the NRL.
Growing up in Townsville, Marie never would have imaged she would one day be working for the North Queensland Cowboys. With interests in illustration and none in sport, Marie followed a more traditional path of artistry through her early life studies until creating "The Good Food Guide", an independent food magazine in Townsville.
It was from this startup that an opportunity came knocking at the Cowboys and nearly 10 years later Marie has never looked back.
We explore what it's like to be the designer at an NRL club; such as the highs of Grand Final success, the lows or poor seasonal results and the work behind the scenes of almost making a grand final...
We chat about the recent removal of the red keyline text on the Cowboys logo (a massive applause from the online sports creative community) and the persistence of that yellow star, the balance of colours in the teams branding and how far in advance some projects need to be worked on.
Marie shares with us some of her favourite NQ Cowboys jersey's and what she might like to see on and off the field in the future.
Lastly we get some great recommendations on who we should be following in the sports creative scene, in Australia and abroad.

"I said to my mum at the age of six that I was going to design for Adidas and play for the All Blacks in a jersey that I designed".
Nick Bassett is a Graphic Designer at Dynasty Sport and a Co-Host of this podcast. Sitting in the guest seat this week, Nick shares his story of growing up in New Zealand as an avid sports lover (especially the All Blacks). We talk his obsession with art in sport and career progression into his dream role working on professional sports team uniforms.
Nick's resilience, confidence and determinism is unassuming but not to be underrated. An extremely talented sportswear artists who's ego doesn't get in the way of feedback and professional development.
We dive into his decision to move to Australia, right before the COVID-19 pandemic, his choice to stay in Brisbane during global shut downs, the passing of his mum while in Australian lockdown and the chaos that follows to get home during this time.
Through it all, Nick emulates the "Glass Half Full" attitude that has got him where he is today.
We discuss his Lasertag career and freelancing in that niche, his favourite project to date, where he grabs his inspiration from and what he hopes to achieve next.

“This jersey means more to me than anything else I have worked on. I still feel that way.”
Welcome to the Field of Design Podcast, for your news stories and nonsense from the sport apparel and sports creative industry.
It's not very often an NRL jersey makes international news. Not very often at all. As our returning listeners will know, our co-host Kit is the Head Designer at Dynasty Sport, the apparel partner for the Manly Sea-Eagles. Kit was part of a small group at Dynasty driving this project and in fact the artist who developed the first Pride Jersey in the NRL. When the jersey was revealed, 7 players from the squad refused to wear the jersey citing 'cultural and religious beliefs'. This caused a firestorm with the administration and playing group within Manly and ofcourse the media and NRL community, with opinons being thrown from media personnel everywhere including the very diverse* cast on the fox sport lineup. After allowing some time for the dust to settle (for now) Kit talks us through how the jersey came to be, what it meant to him and the rollercoster of thoughts and emotions he had in the days following the announcement.
*not
Kit's views are of his own and not of his employers, coworkers or corporate partners of his employer, including the Manly Sea Eagles.
We at Field of Design are unanimous in our support for challenging harmful social cultures against all who identify within the LGBTQIA+ community.

He runs an in house team who design and deliver the creative components for the governing body of Rugby League in Queensland, Australia as well as the Queensland Maroons representative teams who compete against New South Wales in the NRL's annual three game "State of Origin" series.
Cal discusses his career progression from a university assignment turn ongoing freelance opportunity with the Mackay Cutters in the QRL's state competition, to working on the front line in printing and creative studios until his current role at QRL.
We explore the history of the QRL and Maroons including the inspiration around some of the modern Captains Run and game day Jerseys.
Callan was the instigator and lead on code name "Project Q"; the brand refresh of the QRL, all representative and community divisions as well as the logo and branding of the Queensland Maroons in 2019/20. We talk about the design process, the focus group, the final delivery and community feedback.
Cal gives us his votes for Best and Worst Jersey of the year and who to look out for locally in the sports creative community.

Kit Lucev is the Head Designer at Dynasty Sport. He is also a cohost of this podcast. And while we have had the opportunity to hear his critiques and banter, we have not had the opportunity to hear his story. In his early twenties, before being the Head Designer at Dynasty and managing the design portfolio of 4 NRL Teams and a Super Rugby Team, Kit ran his own sportswear business. He's seen the highs and lows of many creative ventures, including the time he was sued by a multinational corporation. We talk about studying design, moving around the country, working in pro team sportswear and some of his most proudest moments as a designer.

Like Frodo, making his way through the fiery gates of Mordor, Mason is becoming more like Golem with the weight of this podcast slowly grasping tighter around his neck. Nick is currently stranded between the Machine world and the real world thanks to his technological savvy brain. Kit remains frozen in carbonite with a banoffee tim tam in hand, which you may recall happened at the end of our previous episode.
We also have some early audio scuffles with Craig (our recording producer)... but are solved very quickly, so we win this round.
