What if the difference between good and great isn't talent — it's what happens in the 5 minutes before you step on the field?

In this session of Mindful Mondays, we break down meditation — not the sit-cross-legged-and-empty-your-mind myth, but the real, practical tool elite athletes use to get present, cut distractions, and perform under pressure. We recap last week's mindfulness talk (fear only lives in the past and future — not the present), then dive into what meditation actually is, the different ways to practice it, and the neuroscience behind why it works (prefrontal cortex, amygdala, default mode network — yes, we nerd out a little).

Then we go live with special guest Hakim Tafari — meditation teacher, Tai Chi instructor, model, DJ, and one of the most authentic humans on the planet — who joins us straight from Zoom to share how he uses meditation daily, why "trust the process" isn't just a saying, and closes the session with a live guided meditation and visualization exercise for the guys.

Featuring insights and references from Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Jude Bellingham, and George Mumford's The Mindful Athlete.

This is Session 3 of a 5-part series built for young athletes (ages 13-18) ready to train the mental side of the game — the side that separates good from great.

Session 2 of Mindful Mondays--a series for teen athletes on mindset, mindfulness, and the mental side of sport. This episode breaks down what mindfulness actually means, why elite athletes like Jared McCain and Michael Jordan rely on it, and how presence unlocks flow state on the court, field, or pitch. We look at NBA forward Aaron Gordon's string of soft-tissue injuries and the connection between unprocessed grief and physical breakdown — a real example of the mind-body connection in action. We hear Phil Jackson describe building mental strength into championship Bulls and Lakers teams. And we dig into Nick Anderson, an 88% career free-throw shooter who never recovered his form after four missed free throws in a playoff game — a case study in how the past can hijack performance if you let it. Topics covered: The real definition of mindfulness — and why "without judgment" is the hardest part Presence: why "be where your feet are" is the key to playing without fear Mindset vs. mindfulness — the doing vs. the being How fear only exists in the past or future, never in the present moment Flow state (aka "the zone"): what it is, its characteristics, and why trying harder pushes it further away Practical tools to build mindfulness: breathwork, visualization, journaling, routines, and honest self-check-ins Why bottling up emotions works against you, on and off the field Next up: a guided introduction to meditation.

This is the first of five talks I'm hosting at our house for Roman and Leo's friends and teammates. The goal is to introduce them to ideas, concepts, and tools that will not only help them on the court or field, but more importantly in life. I'm just trying to plant some seeds!

The series covers Mindset, Mindfulness, Meditation, Breathwork, and Visualization.

Only 3% of high school athletes play college basketball. What separates that 3% from everyone else isn't talent — it's mindset.

In this first session of Mindful Mondays, I sit down with a group of teenage athletes to break down what mindset actually is, why fear is the #1 thing working against you, and how belief drives everything you achieve (or don't). We cover the Kobe "Mamba Mentality" mindset, the difference between your brain and your mind, why comparison (especially on social media) kills confidence, and the exact tools — journaling, affirmations, visualization, and more — that turn doubt into belief.

This is part 1 of a 5-part series built for young athletes, but the lessons apply to anyone chasing a goal.

In this talk:

  • The stat that shows how rare it is to go pro — and why mindset closes the gap - Why "you cannot achieve what you do not believe" - Brain vs. mind, and why you can't control one but can control the other - Fear: what it actually is (False Evidence Appearing Real) and how to face it - The Messi penalty-miss story — and what elite athletes do differently after failure -Building confidence through preparation, self-talk, and routines - Simple journaling prompts to start strengthening your mindset tonight

Next up in the series: Mindfulness — the difference between mindset (the doing) and mindfulness (the being) on 7.27.26

On this episode of AlignedLife, my guest is my youngest son, Silas, who's 8 years old and just wrapped up recording an episode of my dad's podcast, The Encore Phase, right before this one.

I wanted to sit down with Silas because I love how freely he follows his creativity, and I wanted to explore that with him. We talk about how he goes all-in on his interests, from WWE to the NBA to painting rocks and selling them, and how he lets go of the old thing without any guilt when something new grabs his attention. That gives me the chance to introduce him to the sunk cost fallacy and tie it back to why his mom closed her store this year after 12 years, on her own terms, once it stopped making her happy.

We also get into his YouTube channel, HooperFN, which he started about two weeks ago and has already used to post over 70 videos of basketball, video games, and hanging out with friends. I love that his channel has zero strategy behind it. It's pure, unfiltered creativity from a kid who's just doing what he wants to do. We talk about subscriber counts and views, and I lay out the one rule for keeping the channel alive: the second those numbers start affecting how he feels about himself, we're done.

If you have kids, or if you've just lost touch with why you used to create things before you worried about what anyone else thought, I think you'll get something out of this one.

Every week on The Five, we find one headline and one deeper idea across all five pillars of aligned living — Spirit, Mind, Body, Money, and Creativity — and ask what they mean for the life you're actually trying to build.

This week, one thread ran through every pillar before we went looking for it: the things you gave up in the process of becoming competent.

In Spirit, the science of awe — why the emotion that makes you feel small might be one of the most important things you can regularly experience, and what happens when you stop letting yourself be stopped.

In Mind, the case for boredom — new research confirms that the idle hour isn't wasted time, it's where your best thinking actually happens, and most of us have engineered it out of our lives. In Body, we get into Zone 2 cardio — the slow, unglamorous training that fitness culture ignores and the longevity science says you can't skip.

In Money, the financial shame loop — why anxiety about money is rarely a math problem, and how avoidance makes it worse — plus the latest on the Fed's rate decision under Warsh, May CPI, the jobs report, and where the market stands.

And in Creativity, we look at the research on adult play — what Dr. Stuart Brown found across 6,000 life histories, why the opposite of play is depression, and what your eight-year-old self might still be trying to tell you.

This week, one thread ran through every pillar before we went looking for it: what you're holding too tight.

In Spirit, new research across 22 countries confirms what the theologians and the neuroscientists are finally agreeing on — forgiveness isn't a gift you give someone else, it's a weight you put down yourself. In Mind, we look at what it actually means that the average on-screen attention span is now 47 seconds — not just for productivity, but for your capacity to think, to believe, to know what you actually want. In Body, we get into VO2 max and the dementia data, and why your cardiovascular fitness right now is a record of everything you've done with your body for years — not a summary of last week. In Money, we make the case that your bank statement is a self-portrait — and most of us haven't looked at it that way. And in Creativity, we look at what the research says about boredom: that the empty hour isn't nothing. It's where your thinking actually happens.

Every week on The Five, we find one headline and one deeper idea across all five pillars of aligned living—Spirit, Mind, Body, Money, and Creativity—and ask what they mean for the life you're actually trying to build.

This week, one thread ran through every pillar before we went looking for it: showing up. Not dramatically. Not as a resolution. Just the ordinary, recurring act of being present — to a practice, a community, a conversation, a physical discipline, a room full of people making something together—on the weeks when it would be just as easy not to.

In Spirit, we look at new research suggesting that consistent communal practice predicts happiness more than wealth—and ask what your version of that practice actually is.

In Mind, we get into what researchers call cognitive offloading—the way AI dependence quietly erodes the critical-thinking muscle when you stop using it.

In Body, the longevity data keeps pointing at the same variable: not intensity, but consistency—and what it actually takes to keep showing up to the physical work.

In Money, we look at why families avoid inheritance and wealth transfer conversations, and what it costs the people you love when you keep deferring the ones that need to happen.

And in Creativity, we explore why community choir research is now informing NHS mental health programs—and what it says about the kind of making that can only happen when everyone's in the room at the same time.

Every week on The Five, we find one headline and one deeper idea across all five pillars of aligned living — Spirit, Mind, Body, Money, and Creativity — and ask what they mean for the life you're actually trying to build.

This week, one question ran through all five pillars: what are you still keeping for yourself?

Not dramatically. Not as a manifesto. Just as an honest look at how many small handoffs we make every day — our decisions, our attention, our spiritual search, our sense of what our money is for — and what accumulates when we stop asking who's actually in charge.

In Spirit, we look at what happens when technology quietly absorbs the functions religion used to serve — and what gets lost in the substitution.

In Mind, we get into new data on AI and decision-making, and the philosophical argument that judgment isn't just useful, it's constitutive — you can't fully delegate it without losing something about who you are.

In Body, we look at the longevity movement and the uncomfortable finding hiding inside it: the strongest predictors of a long, healthy life aren't cellular. They're purpose and connection.

In Money, we sit with the gap between what people say they value and where their money actually goes — and make the case that the antidote isn't discipline, it's clarity.

And in Creativity, Rick Rubin's The Creative Act makes the argument that creativity begins with noticing — and that in a world engineered to capture your attention, protecting the capacity to notice is its own kind of practice.

Every week on The Five, we find one headline and one deeper idea across all five pillars of aligned living — Spirit, Mind, Body, Money, and Creativity — and ask what they mean for the life you're actually trying to build.

This week, a clip went viral that most people laughed at. Steven Bartlett — host of one of the world's most listened-to podcasts — said that three glasses of wine "ruined three days of his life."

The internet mocked him. Brad Stulberg wrote about it. And we decided to use it as a mirror.

Because the real question isn't whether wine is bad for you. It's what it means when the pursuit of your best self makes you so brittle that one disruption breaks three days. And whether that story — in some form — is living in you too.

In Spirit, we look at what the Global Wellness Summit is calling the over-optimization backlash — and what it says about the inner life hiding behind all the metrics.

In Mind, we sit with Brad Stulberg's identity fragility framework and the question no sleep score can answer: who are you when you're not performing well?

In Body, we give the physiology its due — and then ask whether there's a difference between listening to your body and managing it.

In Money, we get into the economy built on optimization anxiety — and then break down the headlines actually moving markets right now, from the Moody's credit downgrade to the Fed freeze to what rising bond yields mean for your financial plan.

And in Creativity, we make the case for the one thing optimization can't produce: looseness.

Every week on The Five, we find one headline and one deeper idea across all five pillars of aligned living — Spirit, Mind, Body, Money, and Creativity — and ask what they mean for the life you're actually trying to build.

This week, one thread ran through every single pillar before we even went looking for it: friction. Deliberate, chosen friction.

There's an ancient case for silence that a noisy culture keeps trying to drown out — and it turns out the doorway to your inner life may be quieter than you think. Research is finally putting a clinical name to the loop that keeps running in your head, and the distinction it draws between rumination and reflection changes everything. Scientists keep confirming what our ancestors knew: the human body was built to move through nature, not around a track. A growing movement of Americans is choosing to close their wallets on purpose — and what they're discovering isn't deprivation. It's something closer to enough. And a generation raised on infinite digital photos is choosing film cameras with 27 frames and no delete button — because it turns out the constraint is the point.

Most of us are trying to think our way through things that can only be lived through.

This week on The Five — new research out of a leading journal reframes the entire relationship between faith and belief, and the finding might surprise you.

Neuroscientists are finally giving us a better map for one of the most universal human experiences — one that the five stages model got wrong for decades. We look at the one recovery tool that outperforms every supplement, every protocol, and every performance hack — and that most of us are chronically underusing. Economic uncertainty is showing up not just in receipts and savings accounts, but in the life decisions people are quietly putting on hold — and what that's really costing them. And we make the case for a form of creativity that doesn't care about followers, platforms, or output — and why it might be the most honest thing you do all week.

Every week on The Five, we find one headline and one deeper idea across all five pillars of aligned living — Spirit, Mind, Body, Money, and Creativity — and ask what they mean for the life you're actually trying to build. This week, one question surfaced across all five pillars without us looking for it: what do you actually stand on?

A generation of young men is quietly walking back into churches — not because someone told them to, but because the secular alternatives stopped working. New research suggests that nearly half of your mental health outcomes may come down to a single variable that has nothing to do with your circumstances. The GLP-1 revolution is reshaping millions of bodies faster than we've had time to figure out what we actually believe about them. Economic anxiety is forcing Americans to make spending decisions They haven't had to make in years — and what people choose to protect when money gets tight reveals more about their values than any budget ever could. And across the country, people are putting down their phones and picking up yarn, paintbrushes, and craft kits — and gathering around tables to make things together.

This week on The Five, we're sitting with an uncomfortable question that kept surfacing across every single pillar: we know what we need — so why aren't we doing it?

Americans are cutting off loved ones at record rates while simultaneously reporting they've never felt more alone. The research on behavior change confirms what most of us already sense — that willpower isn't the problem, identity is. A landmark medical review just validated what movement practitioners have known for years. A record $1.277 trillion in credit card debt points to something deeper than a budgeting problem. And the creative world is quietly pushing back against the pressure to be perfect.

Five pillars. Five conversations worth having. All of them pointing to the same thing — the gap between knowing and actually living it. The Five.

Welcome to the very first episode of The Five — a weekly show inside the AlignedLife podcast where we explore one news headline and one deeper idea across all five pillars of aligned living: spirit, mind, body, money, and creativity.

Something is shifting in America — and this week, you can feel it across all five pillars. A generation that grew up online is quietly turning toward faith, not out of tradition, but out of a hunger for something real. A landmark executive order signed this week could change how we treat mental illness forever — and the conversation it opens goes much deeper than politics. We talk about why so many of us have mastered optimizing our bodies while losing touch with actually living in them. Two major studies dropped this month that reveal how Americans are completely rewriting what financial success means — and what the data says might surprise you. And a new study just showed that AI can now outperform the average human on creativity tests — which, rather than being a reason to stop creating, might be the clearest argument yet for why you should never stop.

In this episode, I sit down with my coach Phil Wood for what I hope will be a regular series of conversations — and I couldn't think of a better place to start than the story of one of the biggest chapter endings I've ever heard. Phil and his wife Jen spent 20 years as church-planting pastors, pouring their entire lives — their identity, their community, their spirituality, their income — into one calling. And then, five years ago, they walked away from all of it.

What drove that decision wasn't a strategic plan. It was grief. It was a profound moment at his father's bedside, a release of a lifetime of seeking approval, and the gut-level knowing that the second half of life had to look different. What followed was a leap into the unknown — with three boys, no business plan, and the complete trust that the path would reveal itself.

We get into what it actually feels like to end a chapter before you know what comes next, why so many of us stay in the wrong chapters far too long, and how Phil and Jen experimented their way into building Expansion Lab — a leadership development company that looks nothing like what they imagined on day one.

We also explore the difference between genuine evolution and moving the goalposts, why inner work is the foundation of everything, the role of support systems when you're taking the biggest risks of your life, and what it means to bet on yourself when you have a family depending on you. This is a conversation about faith, alignment, and what it looks like to actually live the authentic life — not just talk about it.

What does it mean to live beyond the numbers, and what happens when a financial planner starts writing from the heart?

In this episode, I sit down with Ohan Kayikchyan, financial planner and founder of Alohana Financial, to explore how he's building a practice rooted in life planning, self-reflection, and authentic connection.

We dig into the origin of Alohana Moments — his personal blog combining the Hawaiian concepts of aloha (peace, meaning, harmony) and ohana (family, no one left behind) — and why he started writing it for himself first.

Ohan shares his remarkable journey from Soviet-era Armenia to the United States, navigating a new language, a new culture, and a financial industry that didn't always have space for the deeper questions he wanted to ask. Along the way, we talk about what it really means to create for yourself, the difference between contentment and comfort, and why life planning is one of the most powerful — and still underused — tools in the profession.

We also get into:

  • The EVOKE process Ohan uses with clients to build a vision-first financial plan - Why the first three meetings don't touch numbers — and why that works - What contentment actually means (and how it's different from comfort) - Why "doing it for yourself first" isn't selfish — it's the foundation

If you've been feeling like there's more to life than the financial plan you've been handed, this one's for you.

This is the first episode of a new format I'm trying, bringing the AlignedLife conversation home, literally. I sat down with my wife, Ang, to talk about one of the most important questions we wrestle with as parents: how do we help our three boys grow into the fullest, most authentic versions of themselves?

We cover a lot of ground in this one--from the tension between wanting to guide our kids and actually letting them find their own way, to the role our network plays as informal mentors in their lives. We talk about accountability, why kids learn more by observation than instruction, and the difference between planting seeds early versus forcing growth before it's ready.

We also get into some things I haven't talked much about publicly, like how a conversation with my oldest about his interest in finance made me rethink the long-term vision for my business, and why I'm starting to think about building something the boys could one day step into.

And at the end of it all, we keep coming back to the same thing: the most important thing we can give our kids isn't a perfect roadmap. It's love, a strong village around them, and the space to figure out who they're meant to be.

This is a monthly conversation. I hope it resonates with you wherever you are on your parenting journey.

What if you were given the choice to stay or go — and you chose to stay?

In this conversation, I sit down with my friend Aaron Schaben, and we start exactly where his story begins: the moment he left his body during a near-death experience at the 2019 Boston Marathon. With an internal body temperature of 108°, Aaron found himself above his own body — not in fear, but in complete peace — and was given a choice most of us never face. What followed was 15+ months of physical recovery and some of the deepest soul-searching of his life.

In this episode, Aaron shares publicly for the first time what he saw, what he felt, and how that experience cracked him open to a completely new way of living.

We get into:

  • What it actually felt like to be given the choice to "stay or go"
  • How a near-death experience becomes a nervous system reset — physically, mentally, and spiritually
  • The concept of sacrifice with intention and how it reframes the trade-offs we all make
  • Why curiosity might be the most underrated spiritual practice
  • Gene Keys, Human Design, North & South nodes, and how these tools can complement — not contradict — faith
  • Elevating consciousness and what it actually has to do with your relationship with money
  • How aligned finances start from the inside out

Aaron is one of my closest friends and one of my biggest supporters in staying true to who I am. This is one of those conversations I've been having privately that I knew needed to be recorded — and I'm so glad it finally was.

If you're drawn to questions about purpose, soul, and what it means to truly show up in the life you chose — this one's for you.

In this conversation, I sit down with my friend and one of the best advisors I know, Michael Remedios, founder of Wonderland FP, to explore his journey through what he calls the "art of the sabbatical." Michael made the bold decision to leave a successful career as a lead advisor — at the height of his earning potential — to create space for reflection, experimentation, and eventually launching his own firm.

We start with the feeling that pulled Michael toward this decision — not a logical calculation, but an unsettled voice that grew louder over time. He shares how he spent a year quietly preparing for his sabbatical while still employed, traveling solo for the first time, picking up running, and experimenting with who he wanted to be, so that when day one arrived with nothing on his calendar, he wasn't starting from zero. One of the things I love most about this conversation is how Michael reframes the sabbatical through a financial-planning lens.

On a spreadsheet, it looked like a terrible decision — a 100% pay cut during peak earning years, less money invested, a longer path to financial independence. But he was tired of making every decision for a 65-year-old version of himself he doesn't even know yet. We dig into why financial planning needs to make room for this kind of mid-life optionality, and why saving for 40-year-old you might be just as important as saving for retirement. We also explore the deeper personal layers of his journey — hitting every professional benchmark and still feeling lost, the "I'll be happy when" trap, working through it with a therapist, and what it really means to rewrite your definition of success from the inside out. Michael shares how the sabbatical wasn't about running away, but about learning what truly mattered to him, so he wasn't just replicating the same life with his own name on the door. We close with a conversation about rock bottom, catching lessons early, embodying the future version of yourself now, and the belief that alignment in spirit, mind, and body is what allows everything else — including money — to follow. Michael now does this work with clients at Wonderland FP, helping millennials navigate the big life moments — combining finances, starting families, buying homes — with intention and permission to live authentically.

After 20 years climbing the corporate ladder inside hospitals and health systems — VP roles, COO of a major Metro Detroit hospital, navigating a global pandemic on the front lines — my guest Frank Sawyer walked away from it all to build something he believes can actually fix healthcare.

In this episode, Frank and I talk about what's really broken in the healthcare system (and why it's not a conspiracy), how he founded Health Forward to bridge the gap between healthcare innovation and the institutions that need it most, and the deeply personal journey of leaving a comfortable, lucrative career to bet on himself and his vision.

We go behind the scenes on the fears he had to overcome, the role his wife Katie played in giving him the final push, the "she don't want you anymore" moments that signaled it was time to go, and how he spent years quietly planting seeds so that when the moment came, all he had to do was hit the green button.

If you've ever felt the pull between where you are and where you know you're supposed to be, Frank's story is going to hit home.

Topics we cover: - What's actually wrong with the healthcare system and why it hasn't changed - What Health Forward is and how it's helping health tech companies break into hospitals - Why Frank doesn't believe in the "keep people sick" conspiracy — but acknowledges the financial incentives are real - The fear of failure, generational responsibility, and learning to have more peace in financial uncertainty than he ever had with a steady paycheck - Why protecting your network matters more than pimping out your Rolodex - How to start building toward your next chapter before you're ready to leave your current one

I first met Daisy through Tom Morgan's Leading Edge community, and when I mentioned I'd done human design and gene keys, she laughed—"You're much further into astrology than you realize."

In this conversation, Daisy walks me through my own gene key profile live, and what unfolds is remarkable. Gene keys and human design are consciousness mapping tools that reveal how we're uniquely designed to operate in the world and what's meant to evolve through us in this lifetime.

Daisy discovered these systems while managing a music label in New York, working with talented artists who were sacrificing their authentic genius for what would go viral or get them paid. That's when she started using gene keys to help people tap into their true expression rather than chasing someone else's formula for success.

As we explore my profile, she identifies patterns I've never consciously noticed—from how I process information as a "sponge" to why I see bald eagles at pivotal moments (the eagle is connected to my vocation gene key about finding truth). We discuss martyrdom, service, leadership through stillness, and bringing your unique gifts into the world without competing in everyone else's game.

In this conversation, I sit down with Rashan Brown—spoken word poet, founder of Poetry Me Please, and someone who's masterfully building his creative vision alongside a full-time career. What started with heartbreak in high school and a fascination with battle rap has evolved into a platform that's bringing spoken word poetry to stages like Brooklyn's Kings Theatre. Rashan's journey is the perfect example of what's possible when you commit to your authentic path without sacrificing financial stability.

We dig into the real challenges of entrepreneurship—the events that profit, the ones that don't, and why he views every "loss" as an investment in Poetry Me Please's future. He shares how having a nine-to-five has actually given him the freedom to take creative risks without the pressure of needing every event to generate revenue. We also explore the deeper "why" behind Poetry Me Please—how it's become a vehicle for healing, community building, and creating spaces where artists can express themselves authentically. Rashan opens up about the internal work required to sustain this vision, the importance of conviction over certainty, and those early breadcrumb moments (like performing Maya Angelou at Virginia Tech with Nikki Giovanni) that pointed toward his future.

This conversation is for anyone who's ever felt torn between creative passion and practical reality. Rashan proves you don't have to choose—you can build both, one intentional step at a time.

Takeaways

  • The founding of Poetry Me Please was driven by a desire to create a platform for poets.
  • Conviction and belief in oneself are crucial for success.

In this episode, I sit down with Isik Tlabar to explore one of the most powerful tools we all have access to but rarely learn how to use: our intuition. Isik shares the remarkable story of how she discovered her calling. After leaving architecture, she found herself in Turkey with a lost passport, desperate to return to London. Through a series of synchronistic events—from finding the right cab driver who got her a passport in an hour to landing at a Tony Robbins meetup where she met someone who introduced her to intuitive training—the universe literally guided her exactly where she needed to be.

We dive into what intuition actually is and how it differs from our analytical mind. While our mind processes information we already know and often comes from fear, intuition is this instant knowing that connects us to something larger. Isik explains that intuition shows up differently for everyone—some people see visions, others hear guidance, some feel things in their body, and others just have this deep knowing. The key is learning your unique intuitive language.

We get practical about how to strengthen your intuitive muscle. Isik emphasizes the importance of getting into a neutral, relaxed state—whether through meditation, movement, time in nature, or whatever puts you in flow. Our phone habits and constant mental chatter often drown out our intuitive signals, which is why creating space and silence is crucial. I can personally vouch for Isik's work. When I had a session with her, she tuned into things I hadn't shared—thoughts I'd been having that we'd never discussed. It was one of those experiences that made me realize this stuff is real. Whether you're a total believer or still figuring out where you stand, this conversation offers practical wisdom on how to start listening to that inner guidance we all have.

Takeaways

  • Intuition can guide you to where you need to be.
  • Listening to your intuition is essential for personal growth.
  • Intuition is often a whisper that can be drowned out by the mind.
  • You can train your intuition like a muscle.
  • Creating space in your life allows for intuitive insights to emerge.
  • Intuition can be the voice of God or a higher power.
  • Understanding the difference between intuition and projection is crucial.
  • Releasing attachment to outcomes can enhance intuitive clarity.
  • Intuition often provides the next step in a calm and relaxed manner.
  • Your unique gifts contribute to the collective good.

In this episode, I'm joined by a special guest, my wife, Ang, as she prepares to close Roman and Leo, the boys' clothing boutique she's poured her heart into for years. This is one of the most honest conversations I've had about what it means to walk away from something you've built, even when you've mastered it.

Ang opens up about the fear of leaving behind what's familiar—a business where she's refined every process, developed real expertise, and created something beautiful. But mastery and success aren't always enough. She talks about sensing it was time for a new chapter, even without having all the answers about what comes next.

We explore the complex emotions that accompany closing a business: the grief of letting go, the fear of the unknown, and the courage it takes to honor what you've built while acknowledging it's time to move on. Ang shares what it's been like to make this decision—not from a place of failure, but from a place of growth and alignment.

This conversation is about endings that are also beginnings. It's about trusting yourself enough to close one door before you can fully see what's behind the next one. It's about knowing when something has run its course, even when it's still "working."

If you've ever felt torn between what you've invested in and where you're being called, this episode will resonate deeply. Ang's story reminds us that sometimes the bravest thing we can do is honor our evolution, even when it means saying goodbye to what we've known.

Takeaways

  • The decision to close a business can be emotional but necessary. - Recognizing when a chapter in life is over is crucial for personal growth. - Passion for a business can fade, leading to the need for change. - Fear of the unknown often holds people back from making important decisions. - Cherishing past experiences while moving forward is essential. - Community support can provide comfort during transitions. - It's important to prioritize family and personal well-being over business. - The journey of entrepreneurship is filled with ups and downs. - Embracing change can lead to new opportunities and self-discovery. - Every ending can lead to a new beginning.

I wanted to share my favorite things from 2025—some physical items, but also the internal shift that really changed everything for me.

The biggest one is embodiment. I went from believing I could become a future version of myself to believing I am that person. It wasn't intentional—it happened because I kept showing up authentically. But the catalyst was starting to write the AlignedLife blog as an author, not just a blogger. Writing with more conviction shifted something internally, and within weeks the world started reflecting it back: speaking inquiries, perfect clients for AlignedLife+ work. I had become the person I'd been envisioning.

Beyond that: - Dumbing down my iPhone has given me less scrolling, more creating. - Re-hiring my coach Phil and hiring my personal trainer Franqlin have been game-changers for personal growth and fitness. - Anya Meditation's 40-day program and the Open app have deepened my practice, along with getting a meditation cushion that's improved my posture and focus. - Monarch Money is helping me align our family spending with our authentic life. - Watching vlogs from Chris Williamson, Chris Bumstead, George Heaton, and Represent Clothing fuels my creativity and has inspired me to start vlogging myself in 2026. - Small group experiences like Sedona and the Baltimore fireside chat are shaping how I want to spend my time—I'm planning to bring more of that to Fishers. - P&Co is my favorite clothing brand for their quality and "mindset for purposeful living" approach. - Vinyl records hit differently—I'm embracing analog over digital. - The Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown was my favorite read because it puts consciousness front and center.

These are the things that made 2025 special, and I'd love to know what yours were.

In this conversation, I sit down with Nisiar Smith, aka Nas, to explore something that doesn't get talked about enough: the art of building genuine relationships and the power of your network in shaping who you become.

Nas shares his journey from corporate America to founding Courtside Wealth Partners, a financial planning firm serving athletes, entertainers, and entrepreneurs. But what makes this conversation special isn't just his professional success—it's how he got there. Through intentional relationship-building, authentic connections, and genuine curiosity about people, Nas has built a network that has transformed his life and career.

We dive into the real mechanics of networking—not the transactional, business-card-collecting kind, but the human kind. Nas breaks down his five principles for cultivating meaningful relationships: give without expecting anything back, stay curious about people, add value quietly, protect your reputation, and play the long game. These aren't just platitudes; they're practices he lives by daily.

We also tackle the harder side of relationships: knowing when to let them evolve or end. Nas walks through his annual practice of auditing his friendships—not in a cold, calculating way, but with intention and honesty about who he's growing with and who he's outgrown. It's a reminder that not everyone in your life is meant to be there forever, and that's okay. Sometimes people serve their purpose in a season, and freeing up that space allows new, more aligned relationships to enter your life.

Throughout our conversation, you'll hear the genuine brotherhood between Nas and me. We joke, we challenge each other, and we speak honestly about the work it takes to build authentic connections in a world that often values surface-level networking over real relationships.

Takeaways

  • The importance of networking and genuine relationships. - Building trust is a key component of successful networking. - Curiosity about others can lead to deeper connections. - Relationships are a form of capital that can be more valuable than money. - It's essential to give without expecting anything in return. - Letting go of relationships that no longer serve you is crucial for growth. - Small gestures can have a significant impact on building relationships. - Playing the long game in relationships is important for future success. - Authenticity is vital in forming genuine connections. - Your network can evolve, and it's okay to outgrow certain relationships.

In this episode with Lindsay Troxell, we explore the intersection of business coaching, mindset work, and somatic healing—going far beyond traditional financial services talk. Lindsay shares her 20-year journey in financial services, from insurance sales to becoming a coach who integrates somatics into her work with clients.

We dive deep into what somatic work actually is and how our bodies experience the world alongside our minds. Lindsay explains how to start practicing—beginning with simply sitting still and noticing internal sensations without judgment. We discuss body scans, completing stress cycles, and why telling yourself "you are safe" matters more than you might think.

Lindsay shares her recent LinkedIn post about plant medicine journeys—psilocybin and ayahuasca—and how these experiences have shaped her path toward authenticity. She reveals her own trauma story and how she's been collecting tools for healing over the past two and a half years, including working with a somatic therapist and becoming certified as a psychosomatic practitioner.

I share my own interest in taking a journey and why I believe these tools can help us know ourselves better. We discuss the stigma around psychedelics, the science supporting their therapeutic use, and why ancient wisdom combined with modern understanding might be exactly what we need.

This conversation challenges you to consider: What does it take to stop masking who you are? How can we reconnect our minds and bodies to live more authentically? And what tools are available to help us do that work?

In this episode, I sit down with DonJay Rice, a financial advisor who specializes in financial behavior and helping clients reframe their relationship with money. We explore his powerful insight that "there is freedom when we reframe and rewire" – the idea that the stories our brains tell us about money, success, and life itself may not always be accurate, and that we have the power to reprogram our thinking.

DonJay shares his remarkable journey through a stage 3 cancer diagnosis and how this experience transformed his perspective on life, gratitude, and what truly matters. We discuss the concept of "defensive pessimism" versus embracing hope, and why he chose to face his diagnosis with positivity rather than fear. His story about waking up at exactly 3:20 AM during his cancer treatment – the same time his friend PJ was praying for him – is a beautiful reminder of human connection and the synchronicities that occur when we slow down enough to notice them.

We also dive into the tension between being present versus worrying about the future, the danger of living in the "highlight reel" versus the "behind the scenes" of real life, and why finding small moments of amazement each day can be transformative. DonJay's philosophy that "wealth is a state of mind" infuses everything he does, both in his work with clients and in how he approaches life itself.

This conversation is for anyone navigating grief, seeking perspective on what matters most, or looking to rewire their relationship with money and meaning.

In the first of a three-part episode, I am excited to introduce you to the mystery guest I've been talking about for the last few weeks...Santiago.

No, Santiago is not a person, but the new name for my firm. RLS Wealth has been an important part of my Pursuit, and it will continue to live on with the clients I've been serving for over ten years as they continue with me in the rebrand of RLS Wealth to Santiago.

But this new identity for the firm allows me to tap more into my authentic Self and show up for future clients in a new way for finance and one that allows me to leverage my unique gifts and talents more than ever.

Tap in to learn more about the "why" behind the rebrand, and then listen to the next part (separate video) with my friend Josh Passler as we discuss the intentionality behind the new brand and all of the hidden meanings within the logo.

To wrap up the episode, you can learn about the design of the new website by talking with the designer and my friend Colton Etherton.

I'm excited about the rebrand, about realizing my business with the advisor and individual I have evolved into and about venturing into new areas of financial advice and life planning.

In this week's solo episode I share how I realized how my days of doing "all of the things" was really me battling a subconscious feeling of discontentment.

I didn't know it at the time, but my desire to try new things was my effort to find my "purpose" and learn new skills along the way.

Discontentment doesn't necessarily mean you are unhappy--it's more about a calling to step into something more.

In the first "subject matter expert" episode, I am joined by Matthew Zeigler who I have had the pleasure to get to know over the last year. Our hour-long-plus conversation always center around creativity, hip-hop and the beautfy of the artform, and ideas we have for the future.

Although Matthew is curently in the field of finance like me, he has an intersting background as a Creator and is one of the most researched individuals I know when it comes to creativity.

Just take a look at the bio he provided:

"Matt Zeigler is a writer and all-round creative by day, and a financial advisor by… also day. He sleeps at night. Usually pretty well too.

Matt thinks the claim money is the root of all evil might be overstated. He also believes creativity is the root of all good. Somewhere between creativity and making money sounds like a good place to be.

At Cultish Creative, he posts one complete thought a day, intended to help you (re: him) stoke curiosity and quality conversations in real life. He’d love if you signed up for his mailing list and “let the posts come to you.” He loves it even more when you respond to his emails with a thought of your own. If you don’t want another daily email, you can still check out cultish creative dot com and send him messages through matt@cultishcreative dot com, at cultish creative on x/twitter, or at Matt Zeigler on LinkedIn.

Oh, and if you like content suggestions from books, to podcasts, and music – LOTS of music, he is all over the place with inspiration. If you’re looking for ways to foster your curiosity, check out cultish creative, and look at “new? Start here” on the top of the website.

At Sunpointe Investments, Matt is a Managing Director and Partner, working directly with clients to match up their own creativity with their financial ambitions. Business owners, founders, and family offices, you’ll want to check out Sunpointe Investments dot com, especially if any of Matt’s communication style resonates with you. He is not your average financial advisor, and Sunpointe has a very distinct planning and investment offering.

Ps. As matt’s mom taught him and his brothers to say, “Remember, when you spell Zeigler, it’s I before E except after Z”

Pss. As Matt’s marketing team taught him and his colleagues to say, 'There’s an e at the end of Sunpointe, don’t forget it when you’re looking for us'."

Much of the conversation on The PRST podcast channel is what you should be doing for yourself as you go on your PRST. In today's Motivational Monday we shift the focus to what you can be doing for others and how the act of genuine giving is important to your journey. In order to be in the position to one day receive you need to have given in the past. By giving more than you receive you create an inbalance in the Universe that it seeks to bring into balance. Gary V. is famous for his "jab, jab, punch" which is suggesting the same thing.

In order to make the PRST Short DJ Daro FinTwit's Favorite DJ, I had to cut some great parts of our conversation. I couldn't let the comments that didn't make the film go to waste, so we have the raw conversation between Odaro and me for today's episode of The PRST.

You also get to see a little behind the scenes of how I make the Shorts, which I explain in the intro.

When focusing on the S in PRST most of the attention goes to activities for our bodies, mental, and emotional health...but what we put INTO our bodies is just as important, potentially even more important.

If you're serious about your Pursuit, revisiting what you are consuming is going to be an important exercise. I'm not here to suggest what is best for you, as I believe different people need different diets and routines, but I do know most of us are conusming foods we should just give up.

As we focus on the 'S' this week, I wanted to share a quote I saw from a friend of mine on Twitter. It's a simple prescription for how to best take care of yourself and a reminder that we cannot take care of others until we take care of ourselves.

I also have a special guest who joined me today...tune in to hear who it is.

Short answer: nothing--at least it shouldn't stop your Pursuit. Instead, the current economic environment should fuel your desire to pursue your passion and create the life you want to live. After all, whether you are feeling fulfilled or unfulfilled in your life, it doesn't change what happens in the markets, economy, or world---so why not do more of what you love and can control?

We also talk about a few financial planning concepts to think about when on your Pursuit.

There will be periods of time on your Pursuit where things won't go your way. Thankfully, it is easy to shift your energy to the positive and correct the course you have wandered down...practicing gratitude.

We're halfway through the year and it's a great time to take inventory of what we are putting into our bodies--both food and information--and who we are surrounding ourselves with. There is a lot of negativity in the world right now but despite this there is more good than bad happening. Your social media feed may just not reflect this and the people you are surrounded by may be consumed by the negative, which tilts your perspective.

Take inventory of everything around you and if it's not moving your forward on your Pursuit find a way to drop whatever influence it may be or minimize the time allocated to it.
