Are you feeling out of control? Many of us can identify as control freaks at time. It's hard to let go and trust. We have to let go of all the "what if" statements and turn over control to God.
Do you ever find yourself questioning God's faithfulness? If we make a practice of remembering God's past faithfulness we can be confident in our present circumstance. We need the discipline of remembrance.
The Bible warns us against laziness and for good reason. Laziness is not a harmless sin; it can be deadly to our faith. Apathy is a form of laziness and it's creeped its way into our lives and our church. The Bible warns us about being lukewarm. We need to turn up the heat and daily decide to choose a life of diligence, not laziness.
Isn’t it nice to get applause and support? It feels really good to get accolades for what we do. But our focus in life must be on doing whatever you can for the Lord and God will get the glory, it’s not about us. We look to an audience of One not an audience of many. Our relationship with the Lord is done in private and He will make known what needs to be known. You don’t need to shout from the mountain tops what the Lord is doing, sometimes we need to treasure things in our heart. The discipline of secrecy can be difficult if we focus on getting praise.
When we look at the story of King David we see that time and time again, David's response to any situation was worship. In times of victory and defeat, David praised the Lord. Right now in the season you are in, how are you worshiping God?
Self-discipline is the ability to do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not. The discipline of discipleship is becoming a follower of Jesus by eliminating and enhancing specific thoughts and actions. "A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls." Proverbs 25:28
Pastor Kevin gives the church an introduction to our spiritual disciplines series and 21 days of prayer and fasting beginning Monday January 10th. Fasting is a way to revealing our weakness as we pray for the strength of the Lord. Our disciplines drive us closer God has we make space for Him to move.
We have been given an invitation to encounter the Lord. God has given us His Spirit to guide and empower us. If we look through the Bible we'll see testimonies of God encounters. You can't help but be changed after an encounter with Jesus.
The wisemen were always seeking. They were thirsty for knowledge and understanding. The Bible says "Knock and the door will be opened". We are called to be seekers and our promise is that when we seek, we will find something amazing.
It's important to look all the way at the beginning of a story. When we look at the story of the Magi, when did it all begin? Pastor Kevin gives us insight on the history of the Magi as he dives into the Old Testament to reveal the Magi's origins.
The Christmas season can be an invitation for selfishness. Christmas isn't about what we want, it's about what we have already been given. All we want this Christmas is Jesus. The wisemen saw a star and believed it could mean so much more. Their desire for answers brought them to the feet of Jesus. Is God sending you signs? Where can you find Jesus this Christmas season?
We believe that God gives us assignments. Those assignments often come right in the middle of our plans. We can be thankful in the midst of changed plans and tough assignments.
God has called us into relationship. When we speak He listens and when He speaks we listen. God hears us. God hears our prayers. God hears our cries. God hears our complaints. God won't listen if we refuse to.
Followers of Jesus are called to go the second mile. Anyone can go the first mile, but believers keep going. For some of us that means we will need to go another mile in a friendship, in giving, or in our work. Don't let fatigue stop you from pushing past your limits. It's guaranteed that you will encounter God as you are thankful while in the second mile.
When we think soberly about what the Bible says about gratitude, we soon realize it is not a light and fluffy doctrine. It is one of the most difficult commands in the entire Bible. What are you grateful for this week?

There are evil people, foolish people, and wise people. Do you know the difference? God calls us to be wise and leads us in the ways of wisdom. We serve a wise God who will show the way. Wise people follow God’s lead and it’s as simple as that.

We are not called to minister alone. As ministers of the gospel we need people who back us. We need prayer support, financial support, and emotional support. How can we as a church support our leaders better?
Having a plan is a biblical thing! Paul had a plan for his ministry and he worked hard for the gospel. He had a plan but took opportunities along the way to minister as he worked towards his goals. How are you called to minister on the way to your plans? How can you support others as they work towards the plans God has given them?
What binds us together? We are called to serve and do things that don’t always benefit us but help those around us. Christ calls us to live in one accord with each other. As Christians we need to make an effort to seek more than just unity, but living in one accord.
Feeling judgy? Do you live in the black and white? Is your faith a relationship with Jesus or is it following a religion? God alone is the judge and though we try, we can't take that responsibility. As followers of Jesus we must submit to Him, trusting that He is in control.
The church needs a wakeup call. We can be Christians but be asleep to God. We may profess to know God, but our flesh is active. We are called to walk with the Spirit and not to gratify the desires of the flesh. We need to wake up and get dressed, because the morning has come and it’s time to wake up.

Romans 12:9-21 God’s good work is at work in you today as it has been for your entire life and God will continue to work things out for your God moving forward as well. Have you been transformed by Jesus? Being transformed is a thorough or dramatic change. There is nothing subtle about God’s transforming work.
Romans 12:1-8 Who or what do you make the biggest sacrifices for? What gets your attention? We are entertained and enamored by the world. We lower our guard and the world steals our attention. We are called to be living sacrifices for God and to worship Him with our mind, heart, and our hands.
God has a plan for your life and you can be secure in Him for your salvation. "For I know the plans I have for you," Declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
Why should we evangelize if people are predestined? In Romans 10 we see the urgency in our response to Jesus’s work in our lives. If we believe in our hearts that Jesus is Lord we must confess with our mouth. We need to have a personal response to salvation, it’s not enough to just hear and believe. What is your response?
The truth of God’s word invades through our consciousness to sift through all of our feelings and thoughts. Romans 9 reveals some difficult questions about God, but it gets easier when seen through the lens of love. If all people are unrighteous, is it loving for love to make people righteous? If work needs to be done for our salvation, is it loving that God did all the work for us? If no one earns salvation, is it loving for God to give it to people as a free gift? We must seek to grasp the height and depth of God’s love for us.
Romans 9:19-29 We see in Romans that Paul is seeking to bring understanding to the law. There are difficult questions in the Bible, specifically in this section of Scripture and we must always remember that He is Lord and we are not. Is God unjust to choose some people for salvation and not others? Is God unfair to save some people and not others? These are critical questions that we need to examine and hold fast to what is good.
You are saved for God and by God. But what about people who’s hearts have been hardened? Can God harden people’s hearts, like Pharaoh’s heart was hardened in the Bible? There’s a war raging around our beliefs on what God can do and He can’t do. We want soft moldable hearts that are sensitive to what God is doing and sometimes that takes work to identify we have any core ungodly beliefs. Are you ready to do some work?
God’s job is to seek and save that which is lost. Your job is to be loved by God and from that love, spread His love more naturally. We need to be soggy Christians that aren’t afraid to step out and try and walk on the water. We need to get out of the boat and keep our eyes on Jesus. We may get wet, but we’ll be doing what Jesus did.
The reality is that people are lost, hurting, and in need of hope, and we have become comfortable with others not having a relationship with God. It's time to rise up and be a demonstration of God's love to lost people around us.
The Word of God answers some of our most challenging questions. There is often a wall that we come up against in our faith walk, but it only exists in our minds. God can break through our barriers and reduce strongholds to ruins. Jesus has already gained the victory. Now it's up to us to move forward in faith.
There is hope in the mess and that hope is in Jesus. He can comfort the hurting and bring home the lost. You can share the hope you have with the world. Your story needs to be heard. Are you ready to be poured out?
We have freedom in Jesus—it’s freedom from having to strive on our own. Grace not only forgives us, but grace empowers us. Pastor Kevin Hughes gives us the much needed truth that there is no condemnation in Christ. We need to identify the lies that we are believing about ourselves and others, and set them straight.
Often we find ourselves standing on the edge, scared, tired, and hopeless. Diving into the deep often doesn't make sense at first, but when we take that leap of faith, we find beauty in the deep waters of life as we journey with God and are lead by the Holy Spirit. It is a place of surrender as we place our faith in God, learning to trust him in new ways and accepting his healing love.
Sanctification happens in the twinkling of an eye when we first believe in Christ. Sanctification is a process of transformation. It is a lifestyle, a daily journey, and based on the fixed, firm, unshakable ground of justification that we have through Jesus.
