Inspiring interviews with athletes about the mental side of sports, with host Michael Ceely, mental performance coach for athletes.
In this episode of Michael Ceely's High Performance Podcast, high performance coach Michael Ceely sits down with professional soccer player and entrepreneur Sebastian Avanzini to explore the mental game behind elite athletic performance.
Sebastian's journey defies conventional wisdom: told he'd "never be more than average" at age 22, he transformed himself into a professional player, competing across Europe and Southeast Asia.
What You'll Learn:
• How to transform anger and frustration into competitive fuel
• The critical role of mentorship in breaking through mental barriers
• The playmaker mindset and how to focus on team success over individual glory
• Channeling athletic discipline into entrepreneurial success
Sebastian shares candid insights about anger management and the psychological blocks that almost derailed his career. He reveals how two key mentors helped him develop the skills needed to perform under pressure, including the coach who caught him lying during a tryout, but signed him anyway.
This conversation goes beyond typical sports psychology and explores how elite athletes can leverage their mindset for success in business. Sebastian discusses his transition from soccer player to entrepreneur, founding Eduvo, an education platform that connects high performers with world-class mentors.
This episode is for athletes, coaches, sport psychologists, and anyone interested in peak performance. If you're seeking to maximize your potential, this episode provides actionable strategies from someone who's conquered challenges in sports and in business.

Michael Ceely and Mental Performance Consultant Zoran Stojković of Kizo Performance analyze a case study of a tennis player who is struggling with anxiety. Listen to their insights on how athletes can master the mental game.
Vignette Case Study:Name: “Andre Anxiety”
Sport: Tennis
Issue: Andre, a 22-year-old professional tennis player, is ranked 100th in world. He feels stuck at this ranking and when he has an opportunity to advance he gets nervous before and during his matches, and plays below his ability. His coach and others agree he could be ranked in the top fifty. Andre has started avoiding matches where he could advance in the rankings. Andre says. “I am relaxed and confident in practice, but when the stakes are high, I get stuck in my head.”
Background: Andre fell in love with tennis at age 10, after his dad took him to watch a professional match. His dad was also a top-ranked player in his day. Andre showed immediate natural talent and at age 12 he decided he wanted to be a pro tennis player. His parents supported his choice and Andre turned pro at age 16. He rose quickly through the ranks and broke the top-100 when he was 19. Andre’s coach continually praises and pushes him and told Andre, “You are so much more talented than I was; I know you can be the best in the world.”
