IS IT MY CUP OF TEA is based on the idioms “It’s my cup of Tea” & “Not my cup of Tea" to describe something you like & don’t like. Everybody has differing opinions, likes and dislikes, but if there is one thing everyone can agree upon is that people just want to be entertained! I'm an avid movie lover and use to enjoyed discussing films with various people and listening to differing points of views, when I uploaded my opinion on Facebook. Until one day I stopped doing it, realizing that I should redirect this energy towards my community, and the arts in general. The Gold Coast, and Queensland in general, is full of creative individuals, in fact the Gold Coast is also home to 32 theatre companies who pour their hearts and souls into productions that can take up to 10 or more so weeks to put together, and sometimes on shoestring budgets! Its here that this thriving community deserves good audiences, just as much as the local cinema does, and I wanted to find a way that I could influence & educate people to support the local creative arts scene.

I’ve turned my educative workshop into a site specific, interactive performance workshop, for an audience of 30, for one show only, at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum, as part of the Anywhere Festival – Moreton Bay.
The Golden Age of Radio, otherwise known as G.A.R. was created around my love for old time radio drama and inspired by the experience I had as a kid at Movie World, in the early 90’s, where, if you were lucky, you got to put sound effects to scene from Lethal Weapon 2 on their studio backlot tour.
This is a FREE show on Sunday 22nd May at 1:00pm. Located at Old Petrie Town, 901 - 949 Dayboro Road, Whiteside.

Hello and welcome to an episode of “Is it my Cup of Tea?” an occasional podcast bringing you information to see if unique blends of creativity are … your cup of tea!
The cast of Boys in the Band is are a mixture of Gold Coast locals who are treading the boards for the first time and others coming back after years of doing nothing! They are Ricky Moss, Clay Carlaw, Beau Frigault, Anton King, Dylan Pereira, Jasper Jacavou-Jonshon, Mitchell Spence, Oscar Apps-Perry & Adam Hellier
In this episode I have a chat with them and director Jake Goodall about Javeenbah's current production.
Please excuse the sound in this recording, the microphone was playing up. If want more info on The Boys in the Band, check out episode 20!
Performances at Javeenbah Theatre begin on the 25th March 2022 -and runs until 9th April. Ticket prices are $25 an adult, $22 concession and all tickets for opening night are $20.00
Javeenbah also have an early bird special on ticket pricing. You get $2 off every ticket up to 2 weeks before opening! So I would suggest booking now to take advantage of this offer and get ready for one interesting party to take place on the Gold Coast!
To purchase tickets click here
It seems that Javeenbah theatre are throwing a party in Nerang, that Gold Coast locals shouldn’t miss, in the production called “The Boys in the Band.” by Mart Crowley.
Upon researching the play, I found that the “The Boys in the Band” was the first American drama about openly gay men to achieve major commercial success in 1968. It was ground-breaking for its portrayal of gay life.
In his Upper East Side apartment, Michael is throwing a birthday party for Harold, a self-avowed thirty-two-year-old, pockmarked, Jew fairy, complete with a surprise gift: Cowboy, a street hustler. As the evening wears on – fuelled by drugs and alcohol – The party climax's with a tense Truth or Dare-style telephone game that leads to a series of uncomfortable confessions.
Articles I’ve read have painted a picture that as a whole, the show is a landmark comic drama that is an engaging and powerful piece of theatre, that is as enjoyable as it is menacing!
This is Jake's directorial debut, and I caught a glimpse of the collaboration between him, his cast and crew, and I must say the script and performances were as educative as they were entertaining.

Della makes cakes, not judgment calls – those she leaves to her husband, Tim. But when the girl she helped raise comes back home to North Carolina to get married, and the fiancé is actually a fiancée, Della’s life gets turned upside down. She can’t really make a cake for such a wedding, can she? For the first time in her life, Della has to think for herself.
A delicious dramatic comedy, set in the present-day, that asks the big questions about love, marriage, tolerance, and baking. Faith, family, and frosting will collide in this contemporary play that gives us all permission to examine our beliefs and maybe even change our minds.
The Cake premiered at the Echo Theatre Company in Los Angeles, CA in June 2017 under the direction of Jennifer Chambers and Gold Coast Little Theatre, in Southport, Queensland, has the Australian premiere which is directed by local stalwart Jim Dickson.
The show stars Gold Coast locals: Marie Dickson plays Della, Stephen Nash as Tim, Anne Vaugh as Macy, and Samantha McClurg as Jen.

In episode 16 I talked about a little bit about the show PUFFS! from some research I had done. The synopsis of the show is as follows: For seven years a certain boy wizard went to Wizard School. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of The Puffs who just happened to be there too. PUFFS gives you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three new heroes just trying to make it through wizard school.
PUFFS; or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic, is the record breaking Off-Broadway comedy hit, that performed at Brisbane Powerhouse in 2019, and will be produced by Spotlight Theatre and Directed by Mitch Walsh

Do you still believe in Santa? Do you know what The Radioplay Hour is?
In today’s episode I’m going to talk about one of MY upcoming productions, and final LIVE show of the year, The Radioplay Hour LIVE: Miracle on 34th Street which will involve retro audio storytelling, sound effects, and live music being performed on the grounds of the oldest surviving residence in the Glass House Mountains, Bankfoot House, on Friday December 3rd 2021.
Just as people have a passion for shakesphere, Chekov and other classical types of theatre, I have a passion for embracing, and recreating the art of the Radio play or Radio Drama and explain how I came up with the concept of The Radioplay Hour - LIVE& pass on information about Miracle on 34th Street.
With a radio set up in front of the staging area you can choose to watch the “behind the scenes” and participate in the show, or you can just close your eyes and listen. Either way I’ve found over time, this has created an experience that is a fun, engaging use in performing live storytelling.
Free guided tours of Bankfoot House and Christmas Exhibition available between 4:30pm & 5:30pm . Refreshments available onsite

Live music from 5:30pm, Miracle on 34th Street from 6:00pm

The Reaction Theory is an emerging theatre collective group that loves to create and share fresh theatre that is targeted towards people ages 18-29! Founder and Creative Producer Egan Sun-Bin is excited to bring this play back to Brisbane with a new generation of emerging artists.
An Australian theatre maker and screenwriter, Zoe Dawson is based in Melbourne. A meta-satirical play the “The Unspoken Word is ‘Joe’” was one of Zoe Dawson’s first plays, in her early artistic career. Its about playwright, Zoey Dawson, and a play she has written and would describe as beautiful, tender, sad and funny. But also really clever, really honest, and really raw and emotional. It’s about a break-up – but it’s not just a breakup play. Apparently, it’s got lots of other layers to it and she hopes you, the audience, like it. A lot.
I’m hoping to chat to members of the Reaction Theory group soon to see if I can bring you more information to help you to decide if this “post-modern piss-take” is your cup of tea!
You can also follow their Facebook & Instagram page for updates or visit their website more info & tickets.
The Unspoken Word is ‘Joe’ runs 24th - 27th November 2021,at the Back dock Arts, Fortitude Valley QLD.

It is also home to 32 theatre companies on the Gold Coast, who pour their hearts and souls into productions that can take up to 10 or more so weeks to put together, and sometimes on shoestring budgets!
Its here that this thriving community deserves good audiences, just as much as the local cinema does, and I wanted to find a way that I could influence & educate people to support the local creative arts scene.
