Heyy Mommies!
Welcome to the Mom Keys to Mental Peace Podcast!
I'm your host, Tari Khiya Allen Butler. I am a teen mom turned author, speaker, and momprenuer.
I teach millennial moms how to glow up their mindsets and level up their lifestyle in faith, family, and finances.
Join me every Tuesday for the Mom Keys to Mental Peace Podcast where you'll learn major keys to stop coming up short on your goals and start leveling up for the type of lifestyle you desire.
Ready to level up?
In this episode, I’m sharing a message the Lord placed heavily on my heart about the quiet epidemic of women idolizing men and romance. From “boy-crazy” childhood messages in media, to personal stories from my own life, we’ll uncover the signs that you may be putting a man in God’s place and the practical steps to break free from that cycle.
We’ll talk about:
This isn’t a message of judgment—it’s a message of freedom. God wants to fill the spaces you’ve been trying to satisfy with men and give you the peace, clarity, and wholeness only He can provide.
📝 Homework:
Journal Reflection: Write down 3 ways you may have placed men (or marriage) in God’s rightful place in your heart. Be honest, even if it’s uncomfortable.
Scripture Anchor: Meditate on Ephesians 2:10 (you are God’s masterpiece) and John 4:13–14 (Jesus as the Living Water). Write down what these verses mean for your identity.
Practical Step: Take a 7-day break from any content that triggers romantic idolization (rom-coms, love songs, celebrity couples on IG). Replace that time with prayer, worship, or something that nurtures your personal gifts.

In this episode, I’m breaking down what it means to live by the Spirit, the hope of our future glory, and the truth that nothing can separate us from God’s love.

In this episode, I’m sharing some insights God gave me while watching the Netflix documentary Unknown Number: The High School Catfish. If you’ve seen it, you know it’s about two teens who were harassed by nonstop text messages—only for it to be revealed that the person behind it all was someone shockingly close to them. Watching how people reacted to the mom online—so quick to judge, tear down, and call her every name in the book—made me pause.
It reminded me that as believers, we have to check ourselves. Yes, what she did was wrong. But there’s no sin too big for God’s forgiveness, and He expects us to extend that same forgiveness to others—even when we feel like they don’t deserve it.
I share a personal story of how I had to forgive a family member who hurt me with their words, and how the Holy Spirit convicted me when I wanted to hold onto an apology before I would talk to them again. I also tie in the story of Jonah, who didn’t want Nineveh to receive mercy because, in his eyes, they weren’t worthy. But the truth is—none of us are worthy. Yet God still forgives.
The heart of this episode is simple: forgiveness isn’t about who deserves it. It’s about being obedient to God and remembering how much He’s forgiven us.

In this week’s Bible Study episode of Mom Keys to Mental Peace, we dive into Romans 7 to uncover what happens after salvation. Many believers get stuck at “I’m saved” without understanding the next step: sanctification. Paul explains the ongoing struggle with sin, the purpose of God’s law, and why only the Holy Spirit can give us lasting victory.
If you’ve ever wondered why transformation feels so hard, or why you still wrestle with sin even after giving your life to Christ — this episode is for you.
We’ll explore:
✨ What the Law reveals about our sin (and why it’s not enough to save us)
✨ Why the struggle with sin is normal, but not hopeless
✨ How to rely on the Holy Spirit instead of striving in your own strength
It’s time to move beyond just being saved and step into true freedom through Christ.
📝 Homework:
This week, read Romans 7:14–25 each day and journal:

Too many of us stop at salvation, thinking we've made it because we're "saved." But what happens after you say yes to Jesus? In this episode, we unpack Romans 6 to explore what sanctification really means. We'll talk about how God's grace isn't a pass to keep sinning, how to recognize the difference between your old nature and your new identity in Christ, and how to lean on the Holy Spirit for true transformation—not behavior modification. It's time to move from being saved from sin to walking in freedom from sin.
Tune in to learn what it truly means to be dead to sin and alive in Christ.
📝 Homework:
Scripture Reading: Reread Romans 6 slowly this week and underline every time you see the words "sin," "death," "life," or "freedom."
Journal on this prompt: “Where in my life have I been making excuses to continue in sin, rather than inviting the Holy Spirit to help me change?”
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal one area where He wants to sanctify you this week—and partner with Him in it.

In this episode, we’re talking about the hidden patterns that often pass through generations—cycles of silence, trauma, and sin that shape families without anyone realizing it. These patterns may have been normalized or buried, but God is calling you to recognize them and interrupt them. We’ll explore how generational cycles take root, why they persist, and what Scripture says about breaking free from them. You’ll be challenged to reflect, pray, and step into your role as a generational curse breaker. It may not have started with you—but with God, it can stop with you. This is your invitation to start a new legacy.
📝 Homework:
Write down 1–3 recurring patterns you've noticed in your family (use the list from the episode as a guide).
Try to identify the origin or possible trigger of the pattern. Who else in your family has struggled with this? Where might it have started?
Read Romans 12:2, Exodus 20:5-6, and James 1:5. Journal your thoughts on how these scriptures give you permission, wisdom, and power to disrupt harmful patterns.
Write out a prayer for your family—past, present, and future. Be honest with God about the healing you desire.

In this deeply personal and thought-provoking episode of Mom Keys to Mental Peace, I share my reflections on a question that challenged me to my core: Do I know how to just be God’s daughter?
Many high-achieving women, especially moms and faith leaders, often struggle with performing for God instead of simply being with Him. I take you on a journey through my own story—my complicated relationship with my earthly father, how it shaped the way I saw God, and the healing revelation that came when I finally started seeing God as Father.
We explore the difference between mirroring and projecting, the link between our childhood experiences and our view of God, and three practical ways to deepen your relationship with your Heavenly Father. If you've ever felt unworthy of God’s presence, like you have to earn His approval, or if you’re just tired of doing and want to start being, this episode is for you.

In this story-time episode, I’m sharing a real moment where I had to fully depend on the Holy Spirit to keep me grounded—in a Wendy’s drive-thru of all places. After receiving the wrong order and being met with rudeness from the employee, I felt anger rise up… especially with my kids watching from the backseat. I returned the food, expecting a refund, only to find out days later the money wasn’t even returned.
Everything in me wanted to react the old way—rude for rude, petty for petty—but the Holy Spirit reminded me of James 1:19: “Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” In this episode, I walk you through how God helped me choose patience over pettiness, conviction over confrontation, and wisdom over impulse.
I also share the scriptures that helped me extend forgiveness (even when I didn’t feel like it):
This episode is a reminder that even in frustrating, everyday moments, the Holy Spirit is present, guiding us to choose peace over pride. Tune in and be encouraged—you’re not alone in the struggle to respond like Christ when it’s so much easier not to.

In this episode, I share how God has been challenging me to slow down, be still, and embrace the power of simply being. As women and mothers, we often carry an invisible weight—the pressure to “do it all.” From maintaining our homes, excelling at work, caring for others, staying fit, and being spiritual leaders in our homes, it’s easy to lose ourselves in the hustle. But God is calling us back to His original design: intimacy, connection, and abiding.
We explore what it means to remain connected to the vine (John 15:4-5), why stillness is a command, not a suggestion (Psalm 46:10), and how cultural pressures, comparison, and burnout contribute to our resistance to rest. If you’ve ever felt guilty for slowing down or questioned your worth outside of your work, this episode is for you.

In 2009, MTV’s "16 and Pregnant" hit the screens, sparking a cultural moment that resonated deeply with many young moms. For me, this show was more than entertainment—it was a mirror of my own life. At 16, I was navigating pregnancy, high school, and a complicated relationship with the boy who would eventually become my husband. This episode, I’m sharing my journey of becoming a mother, the heartbreak, the struggles, and the glimmer of hope that changed everything.
Join me as I open up about how a series of difficult life events led me down a dark path, and the moment that altered my life forever—the discovery that I was pregnant. I’ll share the challenges of teenage pregnancy, navigating high school as a young mom, the lack of support from my father, and the surprising strength I found within myself and through my faith.
Now, with 16 years of growth, I look back with gratitude and a deep understanding of how God has turned that season of devastation into a testimony of resilience and grace. This episode is an honest reflection on the enemy’s attempt to end two lives, the unwavering love I’ve experienced from family and friends, and the beautiful path to healing and forgiveness I’ve walked ever since. My story is a reminder of Romans 8:28—how God works all things together for good, even when we can't yet see it.
Reflect: Think of a time you felt broken and defeated. How did God show up for you in that season?

In this thought-provoking episode of Mom Keys to Mental Peace, we explore the timeless principles of biblical truth versus the shifting tides of cultural norms. We’ll break down the unchanging foundations of God’s word (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8) and how these principles contrast with today’s cultural messages. Together, we’ll tackle popular statements like “I’m grown and can do what I want” (1 Corinthians 10:23) and explore the “payback” mentality (Romans 12:19, Ephesians 4:26-27).
Whether it’s the call to childlike faith (Matthew 18:3) or the challenge of forgiveness in a cancel culture (Matthew 6:14-15), we’ll dive into the ways biblical truth calls us to a higher standard of humility, love, and godly character. This episode encourages reflection on how we can stay grounded in faith while navigating a world that often conflicts with God’s word.

In this episode of Mom Keys to Mental Peace Podcast, I share a deeply personal journey as God leads me through a season of purity, revealing impure motives in my heart. I open up about how I started placing too much value on numbers and analytics for my podcast, instead of focusing on obedience to what God has called me to do. We dive into Luke 16:10 and the importance of being faithful in small responsibilities before God entrusts us with more.
I also reflect on my experience of God leading me to a smaller church and the intimacy of the Bible study group God called me to start, where I've been learning the power of simplicity and authentic connection. This season has taught me the importance of keeping our motives pure, as well as the need for proximity to God in order to recognize and correct areas of impurity within us.
We explore Matthew 6:1 and the dangers of doing things for show or to one-up others. I encourage you to allow God to purify your heart, to prune away what no longer serves His purpose, and to trust Him in the process. If He’s asking you to let go, it’s for your good and not your harm. Let's walk this journey of purity together, staying rooted in our "why" and aligning our motives with His will.
Tune in for an honest conversation on purity, obedience, and trusting God's process of transformation.

In this episode of the Mom Keys to Mental Peace Podcast, we dive deep into John 8:3-11, where Jesus forgives a woman caught in adultery. We’ll explore the powerful difference between exegesis and eisegesis, learning how to draw out the true meaning of Scripture without imposing our own biases. Through this story, we see how Jesus responds with grace and conviction, not condemnation, offering hope for redemption.
We'll reflect on how we often find ourselves either as the woman struggling with guilt and shame or as the Pharisees passing judgment. How does Jesus’ approach challenge us to show compassion and forgiveness, both to ourselves and to others? Join me as we unpack these themes, and ask ourselves: Are we living in the freedom of conviction, or are we trapped in condemnation?
Reflect with us on the power of grace, and discover how Jesus' words, "Go and sin no more," bring healing and hope.

In this episode of the Mom Keys to Mental Peace Podcast, we dive into a topic that has been persistent in my life over the last few weeks—Condemnation vs. Conviction. As I read Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer for the third time, I’ve been reflecting on how important it is to discern God’s voice in our daily lives. One of the ways God speaks to us is through persistence, and this topic has been recurring through sermons, podcasts, and personal moments.
Join me as I explore the difference between condemnation and conviction—how the enemy uses condemnation to push us away from God’s presence, while God uses conviction to draw us closer to Him. I’ll share personal stories, such as the weight of a decision I made in 2011 and the recent conviction I felt about my finances this past summer. Through these stories, we’ll unpack how God reveals sin for healing and restoration, not punishment.
This episode is for anyone who feels stuck in a cycle of shame or self-sabotage due to past sins and mistakes. Let’s recognize the enemy’s schemes and learn how to run back to our loving Father, who offers freedom and redemption.

In this episode of the "Mom Keys to Mental Peace Podcast," we continue our journey into what it means to parent from a healed place. Healing isn’t about being perfect; it’s about embracing growth, self-awareness, and creating a healthy environment for your children. Part two focuses on the unique parenting styles we develop, how they differ from our own childhood experiences, and the importance of practicing self-care while nurturing our families.
We explore how every family dynamic is different, and that we have the freedom to parent in ways that suit our children’s individual needs rather than simply replicating the methods we grew up with. We’ll also discuss the value of practicing self-care and seeking support, reminding moms that it’s okay to prioritize themselves alongside family care. Building a village, forming mom friendships, and making time for what brings you joy are key steps in maintaining a balanced, healthy mindset.
Another vital element of healed parenting is modeling healthy relationships and communication. Our children watch and learn from how we treat others—whether it’s showing respect, practicing empathy, or resolving conflicts constructively. This episode also sheds light on the difference between overreacting and balanced parenting, and how to stay calm and intentional even in challenging situations.
As we continue this series, remember that parenting from a healed place is an ongoing journey. It’s okay to learn and grow alongside your children, creating new, healthier generational patterns that they can carry into their future families.
Tune in for practical insights, inspiration, and encouragement on your journey toward intentional and healed parenting.

In this episode of the "Mom Keys to Mental Peace Podcast," we begin a two-part series exploring what it means to parent from a healed place. Healing doesn’t mean perfection; instead, it’s about acknowledging past wounds, understanding the impact of generational patterns, and making intentional choices to create healthier experiences for our children. Just as a scar represents the journey of healing, our parenting can reflect growth and resilience, even if it's not flawless.
Many millennial parents are on this journey, equipped with more resources, therapy, and open conversations about the unhealthy parenting styles we may have experienced ourselves. We’re learning to see our parents as individuals with their own stories and challenges, which helps us better navigate our own roles as mothers and fathers. In this episode, we dive into the importance of recognizing and breaking free from generational cycles, understanding our emotional needs, and shifting from parenting out of lack or fear to a mindset of abundance and trust.
As we explore these themes, we reflect on how our emotional well-being directly impacts our children and how we can avoid projecting our unfulfilled desires onto them. By choosing to parent from a healed place, we not only transform our own lives but also set the stage for healthier generational patterns for our children and future generations. This episode is a call to reflect on your own journey and to take the first steps toward parenting with intention, love, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Join us as we unpack these layers and learn together how to create a nurturing and abundant environment for our families. Your path to healing and mental peace starts here.

In this heartfelt episode, I share a deeply personal journey of navigating a challenging season with my mother. I express immense gratitude for the outpouring of support and encouragement I received, reflecting on how God’s principle of sowing and reaping (Galatians 6:7) goes beyond material blessings—it’s about the kindness and compassion we extend to others.
Through this experience, I have been blessed with comforting words, scriptures, and prayers from friends and family who felt led to reach out. I felt seen by God, not through tangible gifts, but through the love and encouragement of those around me.
This episode dives into the difficult decisions made for my mother’s care, including our decision to take her back to the gentleman she had been living with, as we struggled to provide the right resources for her mental health and living situation. I walk you through the ups and downs of seeking help—from mental health evaluations to navigating complex family dynamics—all while trusting God’s timing and guidance.
As I grappled with these tough choices, I found peace in realizing that stepping away doesn’t mean giving up; it means recognizing my limitations and trusting God to fill the gaps. Sometimes, making the right decision for your own well-being is the bravest and most faithful thing you can do.
In this episode, I also share key principles for making peaceful exits and stepping away from difficult situations, supported by scripture:
Pray for wisdom and guidance** (James 1:5)
Set healthy boundaries** (Proverbs 22:3)
Recognize when a situation is toxic or harmful** (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
Trust in God’s sovereignty and control** (Romans 8:28)
Prioritize your own well-being** (Matthew 10:31)
We explore the importance of trusting God with your life and understanding that prioritizing your well-being is not selfish—it’s a way to honor God and live a healthy, joyful life. Feeling sad after making a tough decision doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice. Sometimes, stepping away is an act of faith, entrusting your burdens and loved ones to God’s care.

In this deeply personal audio journal entry, I open up about a challenging weekend spent caring for my mother during a mental health crisis. This episode is a raw and honest reflection on the emotional toll of confronting my mother wounds, the struggle to stay grounded in faith, and the weight of my responsibilities. I share the strategies I leaned on to cope with the overwhelming emotions, including a vulnerable post on Facebook that led to an outpouring of support from friends and family.
In this episode, I discuss the importance of asking others to genuinely intercede on my behalf rather than just saying "I'll pray for you" without actually doing it. I also delve into my study of Genesis 18, where God promises a child to Abraham and Sarah, reminding us that nothing is too hard for Him.
This season feels like a test of faith, and I'm doing my best to navigate it with grace, acknowledging both my feelings and the reality of my situation. Join me as I process this experience and explore how to maintain faith and resilience during life's most challenging moments.

We'll explore practical steps to repent and turn away from sin, aligning our lives with God's truth. In this weeks episode of Mom Keys to Mental Peace, we dive deep into the concept of consequences and how our decisions, both big and small, can lead to significant outcomes. Whether positive or negative, the choices we make today shape our future in ways we may not always foresee. Through real-life examples and powerful biblical stories, like those of Adam and Eve, Moses, and Esau, we explore how impulsive decisions can have lasting impacts.
We take a closer look at the story of Esau, a man who, driven by immediate desires, traded his birthright for a mere bowl of stew. This decision, made without consideration for the long-term consequences, serves as a poignant lesson for us all. What are we willing to trade for temporary satisfaction? How often do we prioritize short-term gains over long-term blessings?
Join us as we reflect on the importance of slowing down, considering the long-term effects of our decisions, and understanding that while God’s grace is abundant, we are still accountable for our actions. Are you making decisions that align with your long-term goals, or are you caught in the trap of immediate gratification? Tune in to explore these questions and more.

CORRECTION
At the beginning of the episode I stated that it took the Israelites 40 years to travel a 40 day trip. That is incorrect. It was supposed to take them 11 days. Please read Deuteronmy for reference. Please forgive me for this error. Thank you.
In this compelling episode, we dive deep into the profound message of God's grace and the audacity of taking it for granted. We start by exploring the Gospel, the good news of God's unmerited favor, and how grace is an essential character trait of God. Romans 3:9-20 reminds us that all people are sinners, guilty of breaking God's holy law, yet Romans 5:8 shows us that God demonstrates His great love by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
We then confront a challenging reality—how sometimes, instead of responding to grace with gratitude and surrender, we exploit it. Through personal reflections and relatable analogies, we discuss how easy it is to fall into the trap of sinning with the expectation of God's forgiveness, and how this mirrors the behavior of a spoiled child taking advantage of a generous parent.
We delve into Nehemiah Chapters 8-9, showcasing a vivid example of how God's people took His grace for granted, and their heartfelt repentance once they realized their error. We reflect on the importance of spiritual restoration and obedience to God's law, emphasizing how genuine transformation starts with recognizing our sinful nature and our desperate need for God's grace.
Join us as we unpack the profound lessons from Scripture, encourage self-reflection, and highlight the importance of humility, repentance, and the continual appreciation of God's unending grace. This episode is a call to action to not take God's grace lightly but to live a life that honors the immense sacrifice and love He has shown us.

Through a personal story of sharing the Good News with a loved one, we highlight the simplicity and profound impact of accepting Jesus as Lord. We also address common misconceptions about salvation, emphasizing that it is a gift of grace, not a reward for good deeds.

In this episode, we delve into the powerful concept of collaboration and its transformative impact on our lives. Since 2020, God has graciously provided me with an anchor word each year, and in 2021, that word was "collaboration." Defined as working jointly with others, collaboration has profoundly shaped my journey in various areas, from marriage and business to faith and personal growth.

Additionally, we’ll cover practical steps for building a supportive community:
Finding Like-Minded Women: The mindset of your circle matters, as it influences your behavior and growth.
Evaluating Your Circle: Positive peer pressure and healthy competition can drive you towards your goals.
Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone: Growth often requires us to move beyond our comfort zones and embrace change.

Today's episode is a quick video that I shared on my Facebook Live 12/31/2023.
I was inspired by a meme that talked about being stuck and dealing with the same issues year after year.
Don't let that be the case for you in 2024!
What are those issues that you "still" deal with year after year?
Address it and heal it, sis!

The number one reason moms don't implement self-care into their routine is due to lack of time.
It's not that we don't want to practice self-care, it's just really hard to find the time to actually do it.
Even though our days are full and busy, we have to be intentional and block out time for self-care.
We have to get creative with how we implement that time
Similar to our cars, we have to make sure we have enough fuel to take on the day and that our maintenance (mind, body and soul) is up-to-date.

Mommy Mindset Makeover Masterclass
This episode explains the importance of knowing where you came from in order to know where you are going.
There is a direct correlation between how your mother parented you vs. how you parent your own children today. In this episode, I explain the effects that history has played on the way black women show up in motherhood. I'll discuss signs to look for in your parenting style as well as strategies you can implement today to stop unhealthy parenting patterns and create new, healthy parenting patterns to pass down to your bloodline.

Motherhood requires a lot of our attention to go to our family.
It's easy to get lost in the "motherhood role" and neglect who we are as a woman.
Before we were mothers, we were women. It's important to make sure we are not neglecting that part of who we are.
Today's special guest is Mylana. She will share some ways you can find your identity outside of motherhood!
Mylana is a personal stylist for moms! She'll share all her tips and tricks on how we can gain confidence in who we are as a woman and mother through style and fashion.
We will discuss:
-Post-baby body image
-How to establish your own personal style
-How to deal with mom guilt when you need to treat yourself
-Benefits of having a life outside of motherhood

In today's episode, I'm giving you the blueprint to how I shifted my mindset to change my lifestyle.
I'm not where I want to be in every area of my life, but thank God I'm not where I used to be.

When you win from within, you have no choice but to win on the outside!
