Ben Hitzfeld and Aaron Michaud are Pastors on staff at Wyatt Park Christian Church in St. Joseph, Missouri. In this podcast we talk about life, faith, the scriptures, current events, in addition to other random segments because that is what you would expect from two trans-generational Pastors who would name a Podcast after the story in 2 Kings 2:23-25. First and foremost, we are both Jesus followers who hope to inspire others to join us on this beautiful, messy, adventurous, challenging, and amazing journey as disciples of Jesus.
Grace & Peace Out!

National Burger Day is held annually in August on the Thursday before the bank holiday weekend. This year, it takes place on August 24. Burgers are convenient fast food and delicious to eat. This Day in History: George Orwell's, "1984" is published
1984: George Orwell, Erich Fromm: 9780451524935: Amazon.com: Books
“Contrary to common belief even among the educated, Huxley and Orwell did not prophesy the same thing. Orwell warns that we will be overcome by an externally imposed oppression. But in Huxley’s vision, no Big Brother is required to deprive people of their autonomy, maturity and history. As he saw it, people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think. What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny “failed to take into account man’s almost infinite appetite for distractions.” In 1984, Huxley added, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we hate will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us. This book is about the possibility that Huxley, not Orwell, was right.” (Neil Postman, "Amusing Ourselves to Death")

Baldiy of the Week: Phil Collins
Philip David Charles Collins (born 30 January 1951) is an English singer, musician, songwriter, record producer and actor. He was the drummer and later lead singer of the rock band Genesis and also has a career as a solo performer.
Between 1982 and 1990, Collins achieved three UK and seven US number one singles as a solo artist. His work with Genesis, his work with other artists, and his solo career led to more US top 40 singles than any other artist during the 1980s.
His most successful singles from the period include "In the Air Tonight", "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)", "One More Night", "Sussudio", "Another Day in Paradise" and "I Wish It Would Rain Down".
National Celebration: May 10 - National Small Business Day
National Small Business Day celebrated on May 10. Today, we celebrate the self-employed and those with startups. We appreciate the individuals with big ideas and the drive to make them come true. The United States has always thrived on the idea of entrepreneurship. It’s the land of dreams and opportunity, where anything’s possible. The pursuit of aspirations has taken different forms throughout history. But none have been quite as inspiring as America’s small businesses run by individuals with true grit and heart who willed themselves to succeed. Their stories are encouraging because they represent what all of us could achieve. For over 50 years the U.S. Small Business Administration has also celebrated National Small Business Week.
This Day in History: May 10, 1775 Second Continental Congress convenes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and issues paper currency for 1st time
Early American colonists used English, Spanish and French money while they were under English rule. However, in 1775, when the Revolutionary War became inevitable, the Continental Congress authorized the issuance of currency to finance the conflict. Paul Revere made the first plates for this "Continental Currency." Those notes were redeemable in Spanish Milled Dollars. The depreciation of this currency gave rise to the phrase "not worth a Continental."

Baldy of the Week: John Williams
I thought in May, we could highlight some bald musicians. I have favored actors, cartoons and even puppets, so I felt like I should break out here. And we are going to start with John Williams.
John Towner Williams KBE (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career that has spanned seven decades, he has composed some of the most popular, recognizable and critically acclaimed film scores in cinematic history. Williams has won 25 Grammy Awards, five Academy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. With 53 Academy Award nominations, he is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney. His compositions are considered the epitome of film music, and he is considered among the greatest composers in the history of cinema-as well as all time.
National Celebration: May 4, Star Wars Day
The 1977 release of “Star Wars” changed Hollywood forever. Four decades later we’re still enthralled. Following the previous two movies of the sequel trilogy, “The Force Awakens” and “The Last Jedi”, the main Star Wars film franchise has come to a conclusion. But the StarWars universe continues to expand through new TV series. So — Happy Star Wars Day this May 4. It’s party time on Tatooine!
The first organized Star Wars Day took place in Toronto back in 2011. The event included an Original Trilogy Trivia Game Show, a costume contest, and a showing of fan-made tribute films, mash-ups, parodies, and remixes. In late 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm and has officially observed the holiday at Disneyland and Walt Disney World ever since.

Baldy of the Week: Homer J. Simpson
Homer Jay Simpson is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the American animated sitcom The Simpsons. Homer and his wife Marge have three children: Bart, Lisa and Maggie. As the family's provider, he works at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant as safety inspector.
Homer embodies many American working class stereotypes: he is obese, immature, outspoken, aggressive, balding, lazy, ignorant, unprofessional, and fond of beer, junk food and watching television. However, he is fundamentally a good man and is staunchly protective of his family, especially when they need him the most.
Homer is one of the most influential characters in the history of television, and is widely considered to be an American cultural icon. The British newspaper The Sunday Times described him as "The greatest comic creation of [modern] time". He was named the greatest character "of the last 20 years" in 2010 by Entertainment Weekly, was ranked the second-greatest cartoon character by TV Guide, behind Bugs Bunny, and was voted the greatest television character of all time by Channel 4 viewers. For voicing Homer, Castellaneta has won four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance and a special-achievement Annie Award. In 2000, Homer and his family were awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Baldie(s) of the Week: Statler and Waldorf
Statler and Waldorf are a pair of Muppet characters best known for their cantankerous opinions and shared penchant for heckling. The two elderly men first appeared in The Muppet Show in 1975, where they consistently jeered the entirety of the cast and their performances from their balcony seats.
Created by Jim Henson, the characters have been performed by numerous puppeteers, including Henson, in a variety of films and television productions within the Muppet franchise. Statler and Waldorf are named after two landmark New York City hotels, the Statler Hilton and the Waldorf-Astoria.
National Celebration: April 19 - National Garlic Day
One thing’s obvious: There’s a certain something in the air during National Garlic Day.
Did you know that Egyptians worshipped garlic as a god—and even used it as currency? That’s not all. Garlic supposedly gave strength to Greek athletes and warriors, warded off the evil eye, and protected maidens from evil nymphs. Not to mention, vampires. (Thanks, Dracula!)
Just think about all the garlicky foods we love. There’s garlic bread and garlic fries for starters. If you feel as strongly about garlic as we do, celebrate with us on April 19.
This Day in History: April 20, 1862 - First pasteurization test completed by Frenchmen Louis Pasteur and Claude Bernard.
Pasteurization or pasteurisation is a process of food preservation in which packaged and non-packaged foods (such as milk and fruit juices) are treated with mild heat, usually to less than 100 °C (212 °F), to eliminate pathogens and extend shelf life. The process is intended to destroy or deactivate microorganisms and enzymes that contribute to food spoilage or risk of disease, including vegetative bacteria, but most bacterial spores survive the process.

This Day in History: 1964 Baskin-Robbins introduces Beatle Nut ice cream
The Beatles were set to perform in the United States for the first-time ever, so it was only right Baskin Robbins would offer a new, special edition flavor in commemoration of this historic event. But, that's not exactly how the story goes. Legend has it, Irv Robbins was confronted about a Beatles-inspired flavor by a Washington Post reporter just five days before the band was expected to arrive (via Mentalfloss). At the time, there had been no talk about releasing a promotional Beatles flavor. So, a flustered Robbins told the journalist that Baskin Robbins would be debuting a new ice cream called "Beatle Nut" in honor of the English rock band.
Somehow, the Baskin Robbins team was able to pull it off and Beatle Nut was created, made, and delivered to Baskin Robbins locations in under a week. Per Decades TV Network, the ice cream was pistachio and walnut flavored with a chocolate ribbon.

National Celebration: January 3 - Drinking Straw Day
Drinking Straw Day is celebrated on January 3 every year, the day Marvin Chester was awarded a patent for his innovation, i.e., the paper drinking straw. Imagine a world without straws. Sounds horrible, right? We often don’t realize this, but drinking straws have made our lives a lot easier, allowing us access to the bottom of the juice jar first, where all the good stuff lies. Drinking with a straw is much less messy, and we can take our time sipping leisurely.
HISTORY OF DRINKING STRAW DAY
The earliest form of the drinking straw was used by Ancient Sumerians almost 5,000 years ago. They submerged long and thin metallic tubes into big jars for brewing beer. The tube passed through the fermentation layers to access the liquor at the bottom. These tubes brought the liquid upwards and into the mouth of the Sumerians.
In 1888, Marvin Stone, originally a paper cigarette holder manufacturer, became the first person to file for a drinking straw patent. Before the paper straw, there was the rye straw, and one day, while drinking a mint julep on a summer day, Stone didn’t like the aftertaste of the rye. He also noticed that the straw was beginning to disintegrate because of the liquid. This led him to think of designing a better straw. Stone started by wrapping strips of paper around a pencil and stuck them to it. He realized that these makeshift straws didn’t leave a grassy aftertaste and didn’t disintegrate easily, unlike the rye. Once the design was patented by 1890, his factory Stone Industrial began the commercial production of paper straws.
In the 1930s, bendable straws were invented by Joseph Friedman. Friedman used to watch his daughter struggle to drink her milkshake using the paper straw, so he came up with the bendable straw, in 1937, by adding a screw in the middle to make the straw easy to turn and adjust without breaking. By the 1960s, with the rise of fast food industries, plastic replaced paper because the cost of mass-producing plastic drinking straws was much lower.

This Day in History: December 15, 2022 - Francis Drake sets sail from England on an epic three-year circumnavigation of the world aboard the Golden Hind
Sir Francis Drake was an English explorer, sea captain, privateer, slave trader, naval officer, and politician. Drake is best known for his circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition, from 1577 to 1580 (the first English circumnavigation, the second carried out in a single expedition, and the third circumnavigation overall). This included his incursion into the Pacific Ocean, until then an area of exclusive Spanish interest, and his claim to New Albion for England, an area in what is now the U.S. state of California. His expedition inaugurated an era of conflict with the Spanish on the western coast of the Americas, an area that had previously been largely unexplored by Western shipping.
Drake's exploits made him a hero to the English, but his privateering led the Spanish to brand him a pirate, known to them as El Draque. King Philip II of Spain allegedly offered a reward of 20,000 ducats for his capture or death, equivalent to around £7,207,135.56 (or $8,816,416.86 USD) in 2022.

National Celebration: December 6, 2022 - National Gazpacho Day
Ask anyone what they think of gazpacho, and they’ll say it’s the chilled, more delicate cousin of boring old tomato soup. But it wasn’t always made that way: gazpacho originated in Andalusia, a region of Spain, probably way back in the Middle Ages. Back then it was made out of a combination of stale bread, oil, vinegar, and water all pounded together with a mortar and pestle. At that time, Spain was part of the Islamic world, so the name gazpacho comes from an Arabic word for “soaked bread.”Nowadays, the primary ingredients are tomatoes/tomato juice, bell peppers, and cucumber, which get transformed into soup via a blender (you can use a mortar and pestle if you want to be really traditional about it). We know you’re hungry, so let’s all celebrate National Gazpacho Day this December 6!

This Day in History: 1792 White House Cornerstone Laid
The cornerstone is laid for a presidential residence in the newly designated capital city of Washington, D.C. In 1800, President John Adams became the first president to reside in the executive mansion, which soon became known as the “White House” because its white-gray Virginia freestone contrasted strikingly with the red brick of nearby buildings.
The city of Washington was created to replace Philadelphia as the nation’s capital because of its geographical position in the center of the existing new republic. The states of Maryland and Virginia ceded land around the Potomac River to form the District of Columbia, and work began on Washington in 1791. French architect Charles L’Enfant designed the area’s radical layout, full of dozens of circles, crisscross avenues, and plentiful parks.
In 1792, work began on the neoclassical White House building at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue by a construction team comprised of enslaved and freed African Americans and European immigrants. Irish American architect James Hoban oversaw the design and President George Washington chose the site.
On November 1, President John Adams was welcomed into the executive mansion. His wife, Abigail, wrote about their new home: “I pray heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this house, and on all that shall hereafter inhabit it. May none but wise men ever rule under this roof!”

World Smile Day (Oct. 7)
Each year on the first Friday in October, World Smile Day devotes a day to smiles and spreading random acts of kindness.
If someone smiles at you, you’re bound to smile back. A smile often expresses a feeling, encouragement to someone, or serves as a greeting. If you don’t smile enough, #WorldSmileDay is the perfect day to start.
There are many benefits of smiling
Improves mood
Lowers blood pressure
Relieves stress
Betters relationships
Boosts the immune system
Relieves pain
Increases life expectancy
Who wouldn’t want all those benefits? All it takes is smiling. And the more often, the better!
In 1963, Harvey Ball created the familiar yellow smiley face. A commercial artist from Massachusetts, Harvey Ball, created the smiley face design for a State Mutual Life Insurance company campaign. Ball aimed to spread goodwill and cheer throughout the world with his smiley face. Through the years, Ball became concerned his image was becoming too commercialized. In doing so, the original intent of the smiley face was getting lost. However, Ball never copyrighted the design.
To bring back the original meaning of his smiley face, Ball declared the first Friday of October annually would be dedicated to smiles. He called it World Smile Day. Ball died in 2001, and shortly afterward, the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation was founded. Since then, the foundation served as the official sponsor of the happy observance.

On this day, cupcakes are baked to honor the lives of those not yet born. The day also raises awareness about the issue of abortion. Cupcakes are a sweet way to get a conversation started on a difficult subject.
Organizers encourage baking cupcakes and giving them to friends, family and even strangers. While not everyone will agree, conversations may be started. Some may prefer not to participate at all, while others still will join in the conversation, even though they disagree.

National Grandma Moses DayAnna Mary Robertson Moses (September 7, 1860 – December 13, 1961) serves as an inspiration to those who start a career late in life. For most of her life, Anna Moses was known as either “Mother Moses” or “Grandma Moses.” She’s especially inspirational since Grandma Moses began a career in the arts at an advanced age. After arthritis made it difficult for Mrs. Moses to embroider, she turned to paint as a creative outlet. She picked up the medium in her 70s.

This Day in History 1957 – Alice Roth (fan of the Philadelphia Phillies) is hit by two consecutive foul balls that broke her nose and leg. The batter was hall of famer, Richie Ashburn. Alice’s husband and grand kids were treated to a clubhouse tour after the game, and they received free tickets and an autographed baseball. When visiting their grandma in the hospital one of the grandkids said, “Grandma, do you think you can go to an Eagles game and get hit in the face with a football?”
