The entirety of the surcharge will be passed on to drivers, and the plan is for the surcharge to be in place for the next 60 days. However, Winship cautions that “we will continue to monitor gas prices and may make additional changes.” And this temporary fuel surcharge will even be in place for rides or deliveries done in an EV, “which we hope will serve as additional incentive for drivers to transition to EVs going forward,” Uber spokesperson Harry Hartfield tells /The Verge/.

News 📰Sony and Honda plan to make electric vehicles together - The Verge
Sony and Honda are planning to form a new company to design and sell electric vehicles together. The venture hasn’t been finalized just yet, but the two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding that states their intent. The as-yet unnamed new company is expected to be formed this year, with sales of the first EV model planned for 2025.
Honda will manufacture the first model, with the new company handing the vehicle’s design, development, and sales, and Sony set to develop a mobility service platform. The partnership is intended to combine Honda’s expertise in making and marketing cars with Sony’s capabilities in image sensors, telecommunications, and entertainment.

News 📰EV batteries could complicate recovery of burning cargo ship with thousands of cars - The Verge
A bunch of burning lithium-ion batteries could complicate the recovery of the massive, abandoned cargo ship in the Atlantic Ocean containing thousands of Porsches, Volkswagens, Bentleys, and Lamborghinis.
The batteries of an unknown number of electric vehicles have caught fire aboard the ship, captain Joao Mendes Cabecas of the port of Hortas, which is the nearest port to the ship’s location, told Reuters. It’s unclear at this time whether the batteries are what sparked the fire. Experts in putting out battery fires will be needed to extinguish the blaze.

News 📰PSA: Update Zoom on Mac to fix a bug that keeps your mic on after meetings - The Verge
If you’re using Zoom on a Mac, now’s the time to make sure it’s updated to version 5.9.3. Zoom has acknowledged a bug that appears to cause the microphone on Macs running macOS Monterey to stay on even after leaving a meeting, first reported by The Register (via 9to5Mac) . A Zoom representative later commented on the post, stating Zoom “experienced a bug relating to the Zoom client for macOS, which could show the orange indicator light continue to appear after having left a meeting, call, or webinar.” The representative also noted that updating Zoom to version 5.9.3, which was released in late January, will fix the issue. Zoom first attempted to fix the bug in a December 5.9.1 update, as its release notes say Zoom “resolved an issue regarding the microphone light indicator being triggered when not in a meeting on macOS Monterey,” but it looks like this solution didn’t work for everyone.
A rocket is still set to slam into the Moon next month — but it may not be from SpaceX after all - The Verge
Last month, an astronomer and space tracking expert made a bit of a splash when he predicted that a piece of an old SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket left in space for the last seven years was going to collide with the Moon this March. But now he’s changing that prediction in a big way. While the rocket part he’s been tracking is still on a collision course with the Moon, he now believes that the vehicle is not an old Falcon 9 part, but an old Chinese rocket instead.

Meta’s market value plunges by $230 billion in one day
It is the largest single-say loss every by a US company.
The company has struggled with waning relevance among young people as CEO Mark Zuckerberg refocuses its aim toward “metaverse” plans. It was also hit hard by changes Apple made to its ad-privacy policy; CFO David Wehner said Wednesday that Meta would likely lose more than $10 billion in sales as a result of the new iOS rules, which limit customer tracking.
Still, Meta is worth roughly $671 billion and reported profits of over $40 billion for 2021.

Its a chrome extension I use every day and honestly I have no clue how I haven’t recommended it sooner. Basically you just go to any site and open this extension to find all of the assets from that site. I use this primarily to get a site’s logo or any banner material that they use. It’s also convenient because you can resize, copy, and export the assets in sag, jpeg, or png depending on what you need. It’s nice because it’s usually way faster than diving into the source code to find what you need from a site.
Ana Recommends: 1. Dr4Gonized - Garuda Linux Distro. Arch-based distro but it does some different things. Most notable is that it uses the Zen kernel and seems to be optimized for gamers.
