In this quick and barely edited episode, our hosts discuss one of their favorite childhood stories, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. They both have a deep love for the stories of Narnia and discuss the magic of the world quite often. Listen as they talk about some of their more recent revelations and theories, and as Chelsea blesses us with her explanation of why Edmund has one of her favorite redemption arcs ever. This episode is full of spoilers, but the book has been out for 80 years so hopefully, they don't ruin too much for you.
We hope you have a wonderful and merry Christmas! And for our friends who are perhaps experiencing a holiday season that doesn't look quite like they would like, we send our love and share these hopeful words from this week's book:
"I hope no one who reads this book has been quite as miserable as Susan and Lucy were that night; but if you have been - if you’ve been up all night and cried till you have no more tears left in you- you will know that there comes, in the end, a sort of quietness. You feel as if nothing was ever going to happen again… But at last, Lucy noticed… that the sky on the east side of the hill was a little less dark than it had been an hour ago." - C.S. Lewis

In a magical land far away, dragons roam the earth sharing their majesty and power with those lucky enough to be blessed by their presence. This is the world that Chelsea would give anything to live in.
There are very few things in this world that Chelsea loves more than dragons. Smart dragons, dumb dragons, talking dragons, dragons that communicate telepathically, old dragons, young dragons, literally all the dragons. In today's episode, Chelsea and Taryn discuss some of their favorite dragon books to celebrate Chelsea's complete adoration for these stunning creatures.
Taryn's audio was a little quiet this week (still figuring out her new microphone) so we apologize for the audio issues.

In honor of hitting their one-year mark, Chelsea and Taryn present to you almost two hours of their backstories, way too many personal details, and answers to questions you asked them on Instagram. Not only does Maddy produce hilarious and stunning book content on her bookstagram page, but she is also a passionate mental health advocate. Our hosts and guest this week will be discussing Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. This beautiful story follows Eliza, a high school senior who is just doing her best to be invisible. But when a cute boy moves to her school who happens to be a huge fan of the comic she creates, things may get a little complicated. Listen as Chelsea, Taryn, and Maddy discuss their own experiences with fandoms, their own struggles with mental health, finding their place, and perhaps admitting to writing a little bit of fanfiction.
A quick trigger warning, they will be discussing topics of mental health and suicide. Nothing in great detail, but it is pertinent to the discussion of the book

Welcome back to another Throne of Glass review! The re-read is now well underway and Chelsea and Taryn wanted to share some of their thought about the stories in The Assassin's Blade. An excellent listen for any fans of total chaos, goals that are so far out of reach you'd have to be deluded to believe them, and super cool imaginary libraries. More than 10 years ago there was a wave of Dystopian novels that appeared on shelves of bookstores across the country. On October 5th, 2005 Twilight was first published. It has been 16 years. With over 100 million copies sold in 37 different languages, and the creation of a successful movie franchise, there is no question of the impact that Twilight has had on the YA genre and the world. Twilight has a hold on our generation, and it is not letting go anytime soon.
Join Chelsea and Taryn this week as they discuss Meyers's debut novel. This was Taryn's first time reading it, and Chelsea's first time since 5th grade. Both found that reading this story with adult eyes definitely changed how they viewed some of the themes and relationships within the novel. While they may have critiques about the writing and plot, they cannot argue that it was one of their most entertaining reads of the year.
SPOILER WARNING Usually there would be an alarm to signify spoilers, but they were too excited and just started spoiling things early on. So if you haven't read or watched Twilight yet and you somehow have not been on the internet for the last 16 years, then you have been warned.

There are so many stories that have had significant impacts on the literary world. We all know of their influences, but how many of us have actually read those original works? In an attempt to become more well-read and to better appreciate the brilliance of the authors of the past, Chelsea and Taryn are forcing themselves out of their usual fantasy genre to read some classics. For this week's classic, our hosts are diving into The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.
Join them as they compare some of their favorite characters, discuss honor and pride, and how they much prefer the way the BBC show ends than the book does.

Aliens. Fancy Technology. Space Travel. Lies and deception. Ender's Game has it all and more. What else could you ask for in a science fiction novel?
Join Chelsea and Taryn this week as they discuss one of their favorite sci-fi books, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Listen as they discuss their experience re-reading the book and how not all books should be made into movies. Chelsea and Taryn have loved Greek mythology ever since they read their first Percy Jackson book in elementary school. So, of course, they were excited to read another book that dives into the complexities of the family relationships on Mount Olympus.
In this story, Zeus gets frustrated at the other Olympians for interfering too much in human affairs (which is funny coming from him, but whatever). As a result, he curses them to spend one week every seven years on Earth as mortals. But there’s a catch… if they are killed by one of the families hunting them, their powers transfer to their killer. This story follows Lore, the last of the Perseus line, as she tries to leave that life behind.
Join the hosts as they discuss Bracken's inventive story. This book has everything you could want, romance, violence, betrayal, childhood best friends, and of course, the whole part with the gods in it. You won't want to miss this one!

Today's Tuesday Tale takes us on an adventure far, far away... to Taryn's friend's house.
After being invited to play Dungeons and Dragons with her coworkers, Taryn was tasked with creating her own character. Naturally, she turned to the only person she could trust in a matter such as this, her co-host and best friend, Chelsea. Together, they made their way through the Dungeons and Dragons Player Handbook to create the fantasy character of their dreams.
Join the hosts as they attempt to walk through the process of creating their very own D&D character (don't yell at them if they get it wrong). Along the way, they discuss Chelsea's experience with playing with her family, why people who read fantasy should be totally willing to play at least once, and, of course, they add to the list of words and terms they can't pronounce.

It is pretty special when three different people fall in love with the same book. T.J. Klune manages to weave a practically perfect tale in his 2020 book, The House in the Cerulean Sea. Following a caseworker for magical children sent on a potentially dangerous assignment, this book brings you face to face with prejudice and fear while also showing you the joy and growth that comes from acceptance and hope.
Join hosts Chelsea and Taryn, along with this week's special guest Kenzie (@kenzieisallbooked), as they discuss Klune's stunning work, the special relatability of each of the children, and how this book reminds us that there really is hope for the future.

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.” (Northanger Abbey)
In her 41 years of life, Jane Austen managed to share stories that changed the literature and culture of England in the 1700s. Her novels were humorous critiques of the treatment of women, education, the day-to-day life of regular people, and so much more. And, of course, she weaved these topics through romantic stories that have been adapted time and time again.
In this episode of Tuesday Tales, Taryn gets to share her love of Jane Austen with Chelsea! Listen as they go through some of their favorite parts of each of Austen's works, and discuss some of the significant topics that she included in her novels.
