Dr. Lindsay Browning, Sleep Expert, Neuroscientist
I am Dr Lindsay Browning, a chartered psychologist, neuroscientist, author and sleep expert. I am passionate about helping people to improve their sleep, since sleep is vital for improved health and wellbeing. When you don’t get enough sleep and feel tired you won’t be the best version of you.
I founded Trouble Sleeping in 2006 to help people improve their sleep and wellbeing though sleep therapy and advice based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) – the gold standard treatment for insomnia. As well has helping individuals with their insomnia, I also offer corporate talks and workshops, keynote speaking and provide consultancy to schools and organisations such as the NHS, police and utility companies to advise on topics such as shift work stress and jet lag. In addition, I am also the resident sleep ambassador for And So To Bed.
I have degrees in both neuroscience and psychology and a doctorate from the University of Oxford where I specifically investigated the treatment of insomnia. After graduating with my doctorate, I realised that there was a desperate need for help for people suffering from insomnia and founded Trouble Sleeping based in Berkshire, UK. I am passionate about helping people of all ages to sleep well. Nothing makes me happier than helping someone from a place of desperation about their sleep for 40 years, to a place of peace and sleeping well! The sleep consultancy advice I offer is based on my expertise in sleep, leveraging the principles of CBT-I and is a drug free intervention.
As a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a member of the British Sleep Society and a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, you can be reassured that I am a qualified and respected professional in the field. I have published several academic papers and an international self-help book: Navigating Sleeplessness.
Ian Wallace, Dream Psychologist
I am endlessly curious about human nature and why people do the things that they do. That’s why I became a psychologist, to understand human behaviour, particularly in complex high-consequence situations. Rather than just viewing human behaviour as an abstract set of theories, I chose to step into those complex high-consequence situations and experience their reality for myself.
As a result of my choices, I have worked professionally as a North Sea oil-rig roughneck, mountain guide, session musician, fashion photographer, commercial pilot, military psychologist, relationship counsellor, child psychologist, celebrity psychologist and artificial intelligence inventor.
Although these may appear to be quite diverse professional roles (or the result of a short attention span), they are united by my fundamental fascination with human nature and my continuing research into how people find meaning, purpose and potential in the work that they do.
The work I do with dreams forms a fundamental part of my psychology practice. It has proven to be one of the healthiest and most natural ways of developing those human superpowers of self-awareness and situational awareness. My work with dreams is focused on the practical application of our night-time dreams as a positive and healthy method to help us achieve our waking life dreams and ambitions.
This practical approach has led to regular appearances on television and radio around world, and becoming the best-selling author of The Top 100 Dreams: The Dreams That We All Have And What They Really Mean and The Complete A to Z Dictionary of Dreams: Be Your Own Dream Expert.

Jeff’s Story:
Jeffrey Deskovic lost his freedom on January 18, 1991, when he was sentenced to fifteen years to life in prison for the brutal rape and murder of Angela Correa, his classmate at Peekskill High School. In fact, she was raped and murdered by a crack addict named Steven Cunningham. Police deceived Jeff, claiming he failed three polygraph tests he passed, and subjected him to nearly seven hours of uninterrupted interrogation without food, a lawyer or parent present. He falsely confessed after police promised that, if he confessed, he could go home. He was only sixteen years old. Prosecutors and the medical examiner knew DNA in Angela did not match Jeff. Yet, they concocted evidence to frame him. Jeff spent the next sixteen years in several maximum-security prisons throughout New York State. Meanwhile, Cunningham remained free and three years after he murdered Angela, he murdered his girlfriend’s sister, a Peekskill school teacher named Patricia Morrison. She had three small children. Cunningham’s DNA was deposited into the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CoDIS) and matched the DNA in Angela. On March 16, 2007, Cunningham pled guilty to Angela’s rape and murder. At sentencing, Angela’s mother said Jeff was "blamed and sacrificed like a lamb,” and Patricia’s mother said had police not falsely accused Jeff, her daughter “would still be with us.” Had Cunningham gotten away with murder a second time, Jeff would still be in prison. Jeff’s rape and murder charges were dismissed on November 2, 2006. The judge who freed Jeff admitted “the undeniable fact that nothing can be done in this courtroom here today to erase the pain and suffering endured by you and your loved ones over the past sixteen years.” Jeff was marched into prison at age seventeen and walked out at age thirty-three. His entire adolescence and formative years had been stolen from him. To this day, none of the police, prosecutors or medical examiners who engineered Jeff’s conviction ever have been disciplined or suffered any career setbacks as a result of their misdeeds. In fact, the Peekskill police lieutenant in charge was promoted to Chief. After his release, Jeff earned a B.S. in Behavioral Science from Mercy College and his M.A. from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In March 2012, he launched The Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice, and donated $1.5M from his compensation to get the Foundation off the ground. The Foundation works to free the wrongfully convicted, provides exonerees financial support to help them reintegrate into society, and engages in public advocacy to raise awareness about the need for criminal justice reform to prevent wrongful convictions in the future.

Get ready for a story of inspiration. This is for all the times you think you can't keep going or feel completely uninspired. Meet a man who overcomes the effect of paralysis regularly-- accomplishing more and more with every day that goes by. Next time you come up with an excuse for why you can't do something-- think of Rick.
Rick Werry was born in a small town in Utah. The youngest of 4 kids growing up on a dairy farm. As a teenager Rick loved sports and being outdoors. In 2007 Rick married his college sweetheart Tara. One year later while building their house, Rick was in a construction accident and broke his neck. His life changed that day as Rick became paralyzed from the chest down. Rick was scared, sad and unsure what the future holds when a nurse came into his hospital room. The nurse was holding a red pen and a calendar. She told Rick that any time you accomplish something you couldn't do yesterday we will write it down and call it a "Red Letter Day".
Rick has taken that nurses advice not only for recovering from a spinal cord injury, but also as a life lesson. In ricks "wheelchair life" Rick has accomplished so many amazing things. Rick has a handcycle and rides long distances, plays wheelchair Rugby and is always hunting. Rick and Tara now have twin boys that are their whole life. Rick is a great dad and always playing with the "boys",
Rick has started to compile his life lessons and "Red letter Days" into a memoir, and plans to publish it.

We had SO much fun with Paranormal Investigator Kristy Sumner of Soul Sisters Paranormal.
Kristy has had the opportunity to communicate with several spirits (you can call the ghosts, if you'd like) and she'll share some of the evidence (we've also included her footage from these encounters). And for the non-believers, we'll even discuss the research and scientific approach her team takes.
We'll talk all about spirits, whether they're always around, how to get in touch with them, and all types of paranormal activity. Bryan will even share his ghost stories!
About Kristy Sumner: In 2014, Dr. Kristy Sumner coupled her passion for travel, history and the paranormal when she formed Soul Sisters Paranormal, an all-female team, made up of Sumner, her two sisters and two friends. As a team of 5 investigators, Soul Sisters Paranormal traveled to some of the most historic and, reportedly, haunted locations in the U.S. in an attempt to determine for themselves if spirit activity does exist and to highlight the rich history of each location. Individually, each member of the team is an accomplished professional in her respective field, and each holds a Masters, PhD or JD degree. The team traveled to and investigated numerous US locations, including: the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (WV), The Lizzie Borden House (MA), the Villisca Ax Murder House (IA), the St. Augustine Lighthouse (FL), Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary (TN) and many others.
In 2020, Soul Sisters Paranormal moved to a two-investigator format, with only Kristy and her twin sister, Dr. Jenny Sumner conducting the paranormal investigations.
Prior to forming Soul Sister Paranormal, Kristy, who holds a PhD in Public Affairs with an emphasis on Criminal Justice, was a senior director for a Registered Traveler company focused on biometric clearances for the traveling public, she was a senior consultant for a biometric credentialing company, and she was college professor at Metro State College of Denver and the University of Central Florida.

We had the pleasure of chatting with Paul Lockhart, CEO of NoviSphere, and former astronaut who twice piloted the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Through his work for both NASA and the private sector, he’s gained a great deal of insight into the challenges surrounding keeping the air we breathe clean and pathogen-free.
Paul answers all of our questions about space tech, Mars, UV-C technology and how it could help with COVID-19, as well as what we need to know about the air we breathe.
NoviSphere recently launched its first product, a system that uses UV-C light to kill 99.99% of airborne bacteria, viruses and other pathogens, including coronavirus (confirmed by independent testing). The system’s unique design combines UV-C arrays with proprietary baffling technology, which ensures the pathogens are exposed to the UV light for the optimal length of time to be destroyed. Because the UV-C lights are fully sealed inside the unit, it’s safe to use in heavily trafficked areas like hospitals, malls, restaurants, sports arenas, etc.

On this episode of The Insomnicat Show we chat with Lindsay Blount, a Doctoral student at William & Mary and Assistant to the Dean. She's also a military spouse, a photographer AND writing a book about identity at its roots. She's got a story to share--
Months ago (in the midst of a pandemic) she discovered she's donor conceived and has 18 siblings-- all from DNA test result on a Saturday afternoon in May. Already in the midst of a pandemic, this was heavy news. She then figured out who the Donor is and it sent her through an identity crisis spiral. Her biodad is incredibly prominent and in the public eye in his state and he wants nothing to do with her or my siblings.
Through that, she has learned that identity is not fixed, rather it’s completely a growth mindset. As she puts it, we can literally learn through our identity, even when the roots of our ancestral tree have been unearthed and we are identity-less for a bit. Listen in to her story about the beauty of freedom from crisis on the other side of all of this and she shares her story and how she's worked through this.
This will be a very inspirational and touching episode that makes us all think about identity differently.
