In this episode, we speak with Dr Sophie Homer a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Plymouth. Her research interests include clinical and applied psychology, and the role of negative, intrusive mental imagery in mental health and its potential as a target for intervention.
Sophie led the creation of The Researcher Toolkit an award-winning project to help postgraduates thrive in their studies while prioritising their mental health.
During the episode we discuss being kind to ourselves in a post-pandemic world, understanding our mental health, and how to maintain our personal wellbeing.

In this episode, we speak with Dr Imogen Napper a Post Doctoral Researcher at the University of Plymouth. Her research investigates the sources of plastic pollution into the environment.
We discuss the growing plastic problem, what the possible solutions are, and the common misconceptions about plastic.
In 2018, Imogen became a National Geographic Explorer and Sky Ocean Rescue Scholar. This funded her ongoing research to investigate different inventions which aim to capture fibres in the washing machine cycle, to stop them potentially entering the environment.
In 2016, her work also helped influence the ban of microbeads in cosmetics internationally, where she found over 3 million plastic particles could be in one bottle of main brand facial scrub.

In this episode, we speak with Dr Matt Roser a lecturer in the University's School of Psychology.
Matt talks to us about the two hemispheres of the brain and some of the myths, misconceptions, and truths of how we use the right and left sides of our brain.
Matt also introduces us to the University's new state-of-the-art human neuroimaging facility the Brain Research and Imaging Centre (BRIC) and the amazing research opportunities it will provide our students and staff.
In this episode, we speak with Louise-Océane Delion who has recently completed her studies on our BSc (Hons) Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology course.
From an early fascination with ocean giants to protecting endangered seagrass, Louise talks about her passion for the marine environment, how we interact with it, and how we can better take care of it.
Louise grew up in the southwest of France by the sea, surfing, swimming in the waves and spending as much time in the water as possible. After family holidays to Hawaii she became fascinated by the marine life over there and knew at that point she was going to orientate her life and career around the marine environment.
Louise is also the creator and host of Plymouth Beneath the Surface a podcast that aims to explore marine career options, discover underwater ecosystems, understand marine research, and conservation initiatives.
