Herbivorize Predators is an organization dedicated to (1) researching how to herbivorize and (2) promoting dialogue about all aspects of this proposal.
In this episode, Asher shares many of his thoughts on wild animal suffering and how to address it. He claims that we must first gain a solid grasp of the welfare of wild animals, apart from any normative commitments, before we can responsibly intervene to reduce suffering on large scale. He proposes that the scientific discipline of welfare biology be established towards that end. Some other topics we discuss include effective altruism, philosophy and science, the evolution of life history strategies, conservation science, animal welfare science, the feasibility of turning predators into herbivores, spreading non-speciesist values, suffering abolition, and directed panspermia.
Asher Soryl is a PhD candidate at the University of Otago Bioethics Centre. His research focuses on philosophical issues related to animal welfare - in particular, the welfare of wild animals, and his educational background is in analytic philosophy.

Adam from Herbivorize Predators interviews the Godfather of Suffering-Abolitionism, David Pearce, who’s ‘Hedonistic Imperative’ manifesto has inspired generations of bioethicists, effective altruists, animal rights activists, vegans, philosophers, and even psychonauts. Adam chats with David about current affairs, the latest developments and the newest, most exciting ideas happening within their mutual interests and shared passions.
For the first installment of the video series of interviews on behalf of the ‘Herbivorize Predators’ research team, Adam talks to legendary qualia-naut Andres Gomez Emilsson about how some of the ideas and discoveries of his Qualia Research Institute could be transferable and useful to the problem of wild animal suffering, the future of pain management in humans and non-humans alike, the ethics of uplifting animal consciousness, and much more.
