This week we are joined by two modern trailblazers; the first is an multi-award winning c-suite leader, who founded her first NGO at the age of 18. Her name is Leonor Stjepic and she is the CEO of the Montessori Group. For our second guest, we are taking a trip down memory lane to a guest from Season 1, a fellow Montessorian and Director of Step By Step Montessori. If you haven’t guessed her name already, we are talking about Sabeen Nanji, our host’s very own sister. Stay tuned as two revolutionary leaders in children’s education answer your most pressing questions -

  • How do children really learn best?
  • What can we learn from children?
  • What needs to be done next to ensure all children have access to quality education?

More on Montessori at https://montessori-group.com and https://stepbystepmontessori.co.uk/

➤ Key Lessons:

  • Invest in children’s social and emotional education - they are the leaders of our future
  • There is much to learn from children: curiosity, lack of cynicism and their social openness.
  • Leaders can be found in every industry at any level, the most important facet of a leader is authenticity and the ability to inspire a common goal.

This week we are joined by an artist and label owner who has been synonymous with pioneering his own genre, ethereal techno. His name is Soul Button and he runs the Steyoyoke label. In the words of the label, “ethereal techno is melodic techno with intelligence, powering the mind, body, and soul. The sound is characterized by its uplifting poetic nature, yet has an edge, giving it a unique imprint. It resonates deeply and fills the soul with immense positivity, all the while feeding the imagination and expanding the mind.”

So tomorrow we expand our minds by going deeper with Soul Button about his creative process, the impact the genre has had on the music scene, and his reflections of the sacrifices he's had to make to run not just 1 but 3 well-known labels in dance music. More on Steyoyoke at https://www.steyoyoke.com/

Key Lessons:

  • Quality over quantity - the caliber of a project is far more important than the volume
  • Always stay true to yourself and your mission because there are very few who will stay true to both
  • The authentic human is the one who has the ultimate creative power in an increasingly standardized world

We unpack Alan’s love for the scene from a young age, his releases on several big labels such as Drumcode, Bedrock, Cocoon, the experiences of running his own imprint, We Are The Brave, and the release of his brand new studio album in over a decade, Machine Therapy. More on Alan at https://wearethebrave.co.uk/

This week we have a huge episode for you as we welcome the techno frontman, Alan Fitzpatrick, to the show. Alan has had an astounding career to date, as one of the most popular underground DJs in the world, he has succeeded in challenging all the rules of techno while carving a very unique niche in his field. Very few artists can say they have headlined Berghain while also having a #1 hit on daytime BBC Radio 1!

Stay tuned for the full episode out on Wednesday morning.

For this week’s episode we are joined by one of Kenya’s most prominent DJ and label owners, L.A. Dave. He has been putting Nairobi on the map for over 10 years with a hypnotic mix of minimal house with an occasional Afro House flair. His experiences living in Serbia, London, California and Tanzania exposed him to many different scenes and soundscapes, helping him build a solid foundation in bringing the underground to Kenya. He gives a very raw chat on the state of electronic music in East Africa and shares his insights on what it takes to run a music label. More about L.A. Dave at https://soundcloud.com/ladave.

Key Lessons:

  • Respect the environment around you because it will shape you
  • It’s not about what you’ve achieved, it’s about what you’ve given back

Millennials are unsurprisingly challenging the traditional styles of leadership with completely different values and expectations from theirleaders. As we learn from the sibling duo Akash and Nikita Mehta, communication, relationship-building and empowerment are some of the major key components influencing their leadership styles. Akash became the youngest ever global digital manager for Dior aged 25 and is a Forbes 30 Under 30 as well as a TEDx speaker. Nikita has a background in developing sustainable initiatives for LVMH, and spent many years in her family business of luxury perfumery, who excitingly were behind the fragrance for Formula 1. Recently the duo have launched a holistic wellness brand called Fable and Mane. The brand is based on ancient Ayurvedic rituals for the healing of the hair with a fund developed to protect tigers in the wild. More on the brand at https://fableandmane.com/

Key Lessons:

  • Your name reflects your soul’s purpose
  • A brand should be founder led but not founder reliant
  • When you go against the flow of life and destiny, conflict happens
  • Age is not experience dependent and experience is not expertise dependent

For the season finale, Farah sits down with her younger sister and Montessori leader, Sabeen Nanji to discuss the importance of early years education, how to nurture the future generations, life after death and sisterhood. More on Sabeen at http://www.stepbystepmontessori.co.uk/

Key Lessons:

  • Praise the process, not the outcome
  • People respect authenticity above talent.
  • The feeling when you enter a room tells you everything.
  • Every human being has an inner secret mission that nature has given it.
  • 90% of who we are is created by the age of 5. The early years are pivotal in jump starting our mindset.
  • When children get a taste for highly processed foods, it will be a tug of war to get them off it.
  • Evaluate the messages given to us in our childhood and be ready to confront them knowing it is essential for evaluation for our own peace and for nurturing a new life force.
  • Uncovering our childhood is such a deep and personal uncovering that you have to be really ready to go into it authentically.
