A dedicated behavioral health planner and mental health design subject matter expert, Stephen is a proponent of “architect as advocate” for colleague, client, and community alike, and he believes strongly in leadership through service. Advocating by design for humanity at its most vulnerable, elevating communities in crisis, and serving those that suffer in silence, Stephen is driving purpose in Stantec’s boundaryless Behavioral Health Practice across the globe.With awards from Healthcare Design Magazine, FastCo, and the Institute for Patient-Centered Design, Stephen is a collaborative researcher and accomplished designer. An AIA Young Architect Award Winner & HFSE George Pressler Under 40 Recipient, Stephen has been named to Healthcare Design's Best Under 40 list by the AIA’s Academy of Architecture for Health and the ENR’s National Top 20 Under 40. He was the youngest licensed architect elected to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Strategic Council, and he championed the AIA Strategic Council’s Mental Health + Architecture Incubator.In his personal time, Stephen can be found building a three-generation home with his wife Carrie for their differently-abled parents or volunteering at home and abroad, most recently in Kenya and India as a medical planner, designing hospitals for local NGOs.
Tom Cuculich is the Executive Director of the Chicagoland Associated General Contractors (CAGC) and brings with him a wealth of leadership and administrative experience. A seasoned marketing leader with more than 25 years of experience, Michael works alongside the Mayor’s office as the Chief Marketing Officer to ensure that all marketing, branding, and business development activities for the city are aligned with Mayor Lightfoot’s economic growth plan focused on inclusive growth across Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods. In December 2020, Michael stepped in as interim President and CEO of World Business Chicago to ensure a smooth transition to a new leader while intensifying World Business Chicago’s efforts to attract new companies to Chicago. It became clear very quickly that Michael was the right person to lead WBC into the next chapter and he graciously accepted the full-time position in May of 2021. Michael Fassnacht has been a recurring figure in Chicago’s civic community and has led critical pro-bono work for the rebranding of the Chicago Public Library and its foundation, the city’s Amazon HQ2 pitch, the city’s Census 2020 activities and most recently “Boards of Change”, an award-winning initiative to encourage residents to register to vote. Additionally, he has been involved as a board member with: Marwen, World Business Chicago, and the Civic Consulting Alliance; while providing counsel to P33, the Joyce Foundation, and the Chicago Prize by the Pritzker/Traubert Foundation. Prior to his role as CMO, Michael served for more than 10 years as CEO at one of the city’s oldest and most successful advertising agencies, Foote Cone & Belding (FCB). He led his agency to unprecedented international creative recognition and strong above-industry topline growth over his tenure. Before then, he was a successful start-up entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, and over his long career, he has been recognized as a global expert in building and marketing brands.
As the CEO & Executive Director of the Illinois Medical District (IMD), Allyson Hansen leads the District with responsibility for strategic planning, vision, growth and daily operations. She is also tasked with fostering relationships and collaboration among partners and stakeholders across the 560 acre healthcare ecosystem that includes four anchor medical institutions and more than 40 health-related facilities. Hansen developed expertise in planning and administering healthcare services across Chicago land at UChicago Medicine, Loyola Health System, UI Health and Advocate Health Care. Prior to joining the IMD, she was Managing Partner of The Red Penny Group, advising national healthcare systems, medical groups and investors on growth, integration, operations and strategic plans. Hansen holds a Master of Health Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of South Carolina, and is trained in Lean Six Sigma, change management and is a certified Patient Experience Professional.
Doug King has managed numerous large-scale international and domestic healthcare projects in his architectural and project management career. In Chicago alone, he has completed more than $1.3 billion worth of projects for some of the city’s most well-known hospital systems, including two mega-hospital projects that have won international acclaim: Northwestern Memorial Hospital Feinberg/Galter Pavilion (2.1 million square feet, $732 million), which won the ACHA Legacy Project Award in 2016, and the Prentice Women’s Hospital (945,000 square feet, $330 million).
Most recently, King played an instrumental role in the rapid conversion of the McCormick Place Convention Center into a 3,000-bed capacity alternate care medical facility in the wake of an anticipated spike in the city’s COVID-19 cases—a transformation that occurred within 25 days. In recognition of his expertise, King is helping craft the new U.S. healthcare standards addressing Emergency Response for the FGI Guidelines, a national healthcare design standard.
