The Journey to Launch: Recent Episodes

Oh Hey Guys! I created this podcast to record the mental breakthroughs in building a business & life you love. You'll hear the documentation of my own journey launching a brand, as well as conversations with fellow entrepreneurs about their struggles and successes turning their vision into reality.

Most of us think of Vision as something outside ourselves. Something that we have to create, or get in order for our businesses and our personal lives to be successful.

But I want to challenge that for you today. Inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger's book "Be Useful," I've crafted a conversation that goes beyond the typical jargon.

I'll tell you in my opinion,

  • What Vision is
  • How I think about vision in my daily life
  • How I use vision to propel me toward my success

Your wants & desires represent the opportunity for you to claim what you can achieve.

As you listen, get curious. What have you not been seeing?

What do you need to harness now, so that you have effortless success?

Love, Jules.

As leaders we are experts at growth. We effortlessly find ways to level up our mind and we are skilled at stimulating our own endeavours.

But there's a blindspot that holds us back.. ,and that's our relationship with criticism.

See criticism shows up differently for leaders. It's a long game, and it's a subconscious game. This episode will bring a new awareness to what you might not even be aware was your own self-critic showing up!

Have so much fun. And if you'd like to explore more you can email me at hello@julessu.com.

A good friend recently asked, how do I balance my time between coaching and a full-time job? And when I thought about it I thought Huh... time is no longer a primary construct in my life.

See I had found a more powerful ways to manage my life - I manage my energy, and I manage who I am being.

In this episode I'll go deeper on the three ways I currently do this:

  • Visualising and associating with your visions
  • Standards: practicing your minimum, and then raising them
  • Appreciation and gratitude to help anchor and protect your energy

Questions:

How do You show up for your time?

Who are you being in your most successful, most empowered state?

What are the themes in your life that make it effortless, rich, and full?

Enjoy!

Flexibility can be a state of mind. A way of being and responding so that you are in control of your life no matter what the circumstance.

I've just begun my first week at a full time '9 to 5' job and I'm going to tell you how flexibility (and the use of it as an identity) has transformed the way I show up.

If you are an entrepreneur who knows what I mean when I say You are doing what it takes, this episode is for you.

Enjoy.

Much love, Jules

When I started to learn about powerful, transformational coaching I was told 'No-one has a budget for coaching'. And when I went to try on this belief, I was counteracted! "Of course people have a budget for coaching, Jules."

Since then, I've developed my own perspective: No one has a budget for their mental health.

If anything you buy or invest in has the possibility of raising your mental health (i.e. happiness), in a way that is personal to you, you will find a way to pay for it.

If you are driven to create meaning in your life, you'll enjoy this episode.

When my coach was a high school teacher, it was the little times in between his commitments to work, his kids and his family where he got to spend dreaming. Dreaming about his life, what he could create, and who he wanted to be.

Sadly many of us are living for, and living in other peoples' dreams.

My question for you is, How much time have you had to dream for You?

What do you want that's completely Yours? Completely authentically, and privately?

In this episode I help you create spaciousness in your current life to dream, using my own life as an experiment.

Too often we think of uncertainty, and we think about it so much that it feels like it exists. The thing is our mind doesn't know the difference between what's real and what's not, so why not spend time thinking about what's possible, so much that it feels real?

Today I want to share an exercise with you that I went through about living in the place of what's possible. We don't do this enough, and we can literally trick our brains into living from the future.

Enjoy. Jules

Now more than ever, we need the feeling of peace.

After speaking to an extremely talented artist named Imani, I felt inspired to record this for you and address the #1 challenge that entrepreneurs seem to be facing: Uncertainty.

We constantly look for what will keep us safe, but the truth is life is unpredictable. There is no such thing as certainty especially with things outside our control.

So how do we feel at peace? Is it possible to change our relationship with uncertainty and experience what life has to offer?

Enjoy.

What does success look like when you don't have a path to follow? It looks likeYours.

There is only ONE of you in this world and the first time you say something out loud, even if it's based on someone else's work, is the first time the world is receiving it.

Your job is to spread knowledge in the world, and I'm going to tell you why having NO path is THE path; To accessing your brain in ways that you wouldn't otherwise access.

Sometimes the thing we believe is keeping us motivated isn't enough. Sometimes it's enough to get us out of bed, and causes us to take action. But when we get caught in a rut or have our lowest of lows, what we thought we needed disappears.

Having motivation will get you started. Having momentum is where you create your impact. And it's having a mission that scares you little, excites you a lot, and pulls you in emotionally, that keeps you in momentum.

What's your biggest insight as you listen this short but impactful episode?

Love, Jules

A palliative nurse once wrote a book on the 5 most common regrets of the dying. I shared this in a newsletter earlier this year, but I thought it to be a quite significant reminder of the life we're here to live - one of creativity and fulfilment.

We're too easily swept up living to other people's measures of success Vs. a life true to who we are.

I walk you through the top 5 regrets of the dying, and my perspective on regret - And then I've got five questions for you to think deeper and harder about how you want to spend your year 2024...

Last week someone asked me 'Jules, do you portray yourself a certain way on social media to attract a certain person'?." I chuckled. The answer is Yes, and No. See, I wouldn't be on social media if I wasn't building a business - and I wouldn't be building a business if I didn't want to create an impact.

So how do I show up? How do I use social media as a tool? And how do You give the world what you see?

I take a different spin on this episode...

In this episode:

  • My journey on social media - Going from skills building to serving others
  • Using social media as a tool to create your impact
  • Finding people with your frequency - How this elevates your transformational journey
  • Being, and staying delusional - How the biggest brands like Nike, Airbnb, & Harley Davidson created a world for others to believe in
  • The magic in having a coach, mentor, or trusted advisor by your side

Many of us are of the mind that we need to leave a past experience behind, or 'kill' an old identity so that we can form a new one. I disagree.

Every experience you've had in life up until today is exactly why you can deliver something unique that transforms others. There are qualities about you that come extremely naturally - so naturally you never thought of it as a strength. It's time to find out what makes you different to others, and own that as your identity.

Like the author Ken Wilber wrote we must do - 'Transcend, and include' .

How we act, how we feel, and how we behave depends on 95% of the activity in our brain that happens subconsciously. Whether we like it or not, we've been letting the world around us define who we are for our entire lives. And for most of the time, it doesn't actually help us grow.

TODAY is where we pick up that subconscious activity and start making it conscious every day going forward.

TODAY is how you'll decide what identity makes you amazing on autopilot.

It's the boring and mindless activities we do that give our minds the 'in-between' space to process adversity. This is so needed as creative entrepreneurs as without creativity, we start to slow our growth. We start to become less resilient, less able to connect, and less able to feel happy.

The journey of entrepreneurship is something you don't want to disallow yourself to fully experience or enjoy. So here in this episode, I remind you to do boring stuff.

When I asked Gabe Klingman who he is without his title he said three things: Passionate. Sherlock Holmes. Present Romantic. This is who I believe Gabe wakes up as everyday because it's obvious in the way he thinks, acts, and feels. This is exactly how he earned his headliner  "Starbucks barista to C-suite executive".

If you don't know Gabriel Klingman, you must want to now.

Too often we don't set aside enough time to be the person we want to be, and this loosens our values, experiences, and contributions to be moulded by external things. Gabe is one of my FAVOURITE people to talk about this kind of thing so I wanted to offer the insight into our conversation today.

I know you'll love it.

Part 1 - Working in remote spaces
Part 2 - Imposter syndrome
Part 3 - Categorizing our values to make sure we grow

We've been taught from a young age to go into something new feeling X. A lot of those times that feeling is confident, and typically in building a business we want to feel confident to take the first step. But confidence actually is built as a RESULT of taking action.

So how can you reframe confidence so that you just HAVE it instead of wondering if you feel it or not? What would this do for you in accelerating you toward what you want?

Let me know if you enjoyed this podcast! I would love your review.

Dedicating a time or day in your week to do nothing is actually one of the most productive things you can do. When you give yourself a no-obligation zone, you give your mind space for ideas to flow IN; Space for Imagination, Visualization and Passion.

If you can make these three behaviours a weekly practice, flow states comes easier throughout your week.

What you do when you're faced with adversity is a habit. Did you ever think of it that way? Most of us resort to 'comfort' activity when we're stressed, unmotivated, or upset - we'll eat, binge on Netflix, sulk, be antisocial, and even push others away.

But what if your default reaction, your habit, wasalways a WIN situation no matter how crappy the day?

I invite you to think and reflect about what your default is right now. Do you win every time? or is it a short term gratification that turns into self-criticizing shortly after? Let's change that.

There's definitely 'get rich quick' routes to entrepreneurship out there,  but some would say you'd miss out on the essence of entrepreneurship; The ups and downs, pivoting, learning about yourself in ways you wouldn't have imagined...

But I say there is a 'get successful quick' route to entrepreneurship, and that is by learning from those who have been there - done that.  They've taken the lessons you can now avoid, OR experience better.

In this episode I share the 3 things my coaches said kept their 'skin in the game' i.e. Their resilience when times got tough.

If you're still in the early stages, trying to figure out what you want to do in life, these lessons are needed!

Where are you in life? Are you being or listening and following?

As travellers and nomads we're often asked 'So.. what do you do?'   But why do we have to say that we are 'something' in order to feel like we play a role in society or have some purpose / sense of value?

I took a snippet out of a conversation I had with fellow entrepreneur Krysta Lynn who's living a pretty unique life by society's standards. But for her, it's how it SHOULD be. Why do we have to be known by our status or what we DO? Why aren't we just BEING?

If this sounds 'woo-woo' and a little WTF, here's a few minutes that can open up a new perspective.

Two things that happen in entrepreneurship: (1) We are often blind to our fortune until something occurs to bring it to the forefront, and a lot of the time it's adversity, and (2) We let stress and anxiety become part of our normal vocabulary, when it's in fact a reflection of what doesn't exist.

I had the greatest pleasure of speaking with one of my coaches this week, Jared Springer, who I admire for his path to learning and fast success. For him, DOING comes first; the Vision forms after. Perhaps this shift can help you move... It certainly opens up ideas for me!

I started my entrepreneur journey because I feared a life without enough money. And so every decision to build a business came from a frugal mindset and it I could only validate it if a monetary return was guaranteed.

The result? Procrastination. Dabbling. Distraction. Overwhelm. More fear.

Do you think your current day job is this 'grind' that you have to do in order to hustle and work at building an online business at whatever hours you can? Are you taking on the idea that you kind of have to suck it for a few years until your business is up and running?

The reality is there is NO guarantee of a successful business. In fact a very small percentage of people are able to quit their 9-5 jobs within a year to scale their business, but that might be after a few attempts, several failures, and years of resilience building and weathering the ups & downs of the economy.

In this episode I take a conversation I had with fellow entrepreneur Ryan McDermott to shift the perspective around your day job being the grind job. If you think you're going to have to GRIND until you experience FREEDOM, you've got it the wrong way around!

If you can become more aware of how perfectionism shows up in your day, this might the key to reducing procrastination.A quick call with a fellow entrepreneur, Annabel, who is many years ahead of me in experience, pointed out this little fact and I had to do a deep dive to share with you.

I learned early on that perfectionism is not what I am aiming for - My first product isn't going to be perfect. Nothing is! Because there is always room for improvement. But if I'm going to put thousands of dollars into something, wouldn't I want to give it my best shot?

My lesson learned: There's a gap between being okay with imperfect and giving something your best shot, where procrastination lies. If we can develop a reflex to seeing this immediately in ourselves, we'd not only minimize the invitation for self-doubt and fear, but we'd have more time to get shit done!

"A 20-year overnight success". That's what I've learned this journey of becoming an entrepreneur really is - and I freakin LOVE IT!! Ugh! I threw my hands up in the air as soon as we got off the call!

My conversation with Ali was one of the best this week and it's because I got so much out of listening to him share his story of where he came from. I mean, truly. From being a child, to managing bars, opting out of two businesses, spending a LOT of money on FB ads, and being here now about to launch his new brand, Unshakeable Dads.

Ali is more relaxed, more focused, and just having fun. He started out in hospitality just like me, and now his story,  his voice, and his mindset, is going to stick with me as I follow his footsteps in becoming a cool, calm and collected entrepreneur, who know's the 'overnight' success is going to happen no matter what.

This can become part of your story too.

Whether you create the life you want lies on two ends of a spectrum. On one end, there's anxiety, fear, procrastination, and stress, which all root from a lack of control (or self control). On the other end, there's complete confidence in one's own ability and sense of self.

The journey I want to help people have is the transformation from one end to the other, and in this podcast I explain the mind-mapping of this.

This might just offer insight into where you are right now, and what you need to change. I hope you enjoy!

I recently listened to Gary Vee's latest book on the 12 emotional ingredients he believes is necessary for business success, and one of them was humour. That got me thinking, could that be the thing that eliminates (or at least minimizes) fear for us as entrepreneurs altogether?

We all know how much of a role fear plays in slowing down our path to results and what we want to create - so why do we let it? There is just as much of a chance that doing something creates the momentum we want, as it could in telling us what we don't want. And both those scenarios are a win.

If we flipped our motivation to doing something because it's fun, rather than questioning our ability to do it because we fear the consequence, I think the journey of entrepreneurship could be that much more fulfilling.

Enjoy this one :)

The longest episode yet! How did I 'rant' for 26 minutes? Because this topic hits home for a lot of new entrepreneurs.

It may be that you face an insecurity, a feature, or non-desire to tell anyone that you're embarking on a new journey. When it's a hobby for fun, and not for building a million-dollar brand, or a movement that's going to change the world, it's kind of easy to tell people about it. Because it's just about you. But when you want to create something that brings in unordinary MONEY or CHANGE, or it's for SOMEONE ELSE, why does our brain automatically create the scenario that we're going to be rejected?

This episode is about telling your friends & family about your side hustle. The fear of rejection that comes with it and a new way of thinking about confidence. I dive a little into my own journey too and why it's so important to protect your self-awareness.

Let me know if you liked this episode! Enjoy!

A lot of us create affirmations that we just don't follow. Like going to a psychologist, we almost only listen when someone else tells us what we already know. So I created this episode to tell YOU what you already know. Or, if you need help with coming up with affirmations to get you where you want to go.

I have to credit this all to Brooke Castillo - They are her words. I've just put them in a presentation for you and reading it out loud. In all honesty, I created this episode for myself as well. To tell myself these affirmations and have it somewhere for decades to come.

The affirmations are broken down into three phases, depending on where you are at with your business. But I believe they're all relevant. If you can affirm yourself the mindset of someone who is in phase three, you'll get there too. I'm somewhere between Phase 1 and Phase 2. Join me in taking these affirmations and reaching new heights!
