is the world too dark for christians? should we withdraw and abandon? if not, how should we press in without being overcome by it?
we sat down with isaac and emily of the parallel society to explore these questions. isaac and emily are artists that have worked both inside the church and outside it. they know firsthand the challenge and opportunity to bridge the gospel with the culture that needs it. today, they lead the parallel society which equips artists to create beauty that reflects the gospel.

as christians, we're called to be in the world, but not of it. but how do you do that? how do we be salt and light to a society that often feels judged and abandoned by christianity?
often artists are the ones that feel these questions the deepest.

pastor karl romeus hit us with this truth: you can do everything in your power to run from your calling, but God has a plan for your life. you may be confused about what's next, but instead of focusing on the five steps to pursue your calling, get some people around you to pray for your future. our hearts were so encouraged after hearing this needed reminder that our calling is not, ultimately, in our hands. we can do our part, but God plays the biggest part.

in episode 2 of our series, "the battle for mental health," we asked the questions what helps mental health and what hurts mental health? pastor wesley shared that one of the most overlooked factors is forgiveness. forgiveness is vital in a world of relational wounds. we must learn to forgive those who've wronged us, and forgive ourselves for the mistakes we've made. wesley towne is a pastor for Bayside Church. he is also the founder of a nonprofit called better days (https://www.betterdaysfmly.co). better days works to bring awareness, hope, and education to all things mental health + suffering.

one of the most important things to do before trying to solve a problem is to figure out what the problem actually is. so, on the first episode of our series, "the battle for mental health," we asked wesley towne to define mental health and provide practical frameworks for thinking about the problems that arise from mental health.

bonus episode! dena sat down with anne of auntie anne’s pretzels, you know those delicious ones in the mall you can’t pass up? her story is incredible. growing up she thought life was good and God was harsh. over time, she learned that life is hard, but God is good. she’s survived trauma and abuse and is passionate that you would know God’s grace in the midst of what you’re walking through. she reminded us that the choices we make today create the world we live in tomorrow and that alone we die, connected we live. if you know someone who’s walking through a dark season, please share this episode with them!

we had mike foster, host of fun therapy, at our thrive conference this year. in the middle of another podcast, the host invited dena up to answer some questions to determine her primal question. it got real real fast.
this impromptu podcast unlocked so much for us. we're still thinking about our primal question and wondering, which primal question are you?

touring with her family, living in nashville, life as a recording artist, worship leader and mom...we loved hearing charmaine's story! as someone who's been in the music industry from a young age, we asked her what it's like, pros and cons. she encouraged us to see worship and artistry as a craft unto the Lord. she helped us grapple with the pride that comes with the platform. the ego of thinking you're too much, and the ego of thinking you're not enough.
heads up, we lost some of the audio on dena's mic, but charmaine's answers are well worth the listen!

68% of college students walk away from Jesus. we sat down with blake vandemark, our 18.25 pastor, to understand why and what we can do to change this. blake believes in our generation and is hungry to seem us live in the reality of who Jesus is. he unpacked why so few churches have college ministries and challenged us to reject fear and do what we can to see God move in our generation.

it’s summer time…that means transition. some of us are heading out to college. some of us are getting back from college. in the midst of all this transition, we’re asking, what does a healthy relationship look like with my family as an adult?
it’s an awkward transition, and kevin thompson gives us some incredible advice to navigate it.
seriously, if you’ve found yourself caught between wanting to love and honor your family but also take on more responsibility for the direction your life is heading, then this conversation is for you!

there are no softball questions in this episode. can we truly know who God is? and how do i heal from church hurt? nathan's answers gave us much to think on, like "the undeniable always trumps the unexplainable" and "the fix for a bad church experience is a good church experience." heads up, we lost some of the audio with maycie and julian's questions, but the conversation was just too good to pass up!

pastor jason caine hit us with some practical advice to raise our leadership and followed it with deeply spiritual advice on how to tune into God's voice. he covered everything from mindset, how leaders are readers, what initiative in an employee should look like, to how everyone at all times should be doing something that requires faith. at the end, he turned the tables with a question of his own, it was one of our favorite moments in the podcast yet!

one of the most stressful things to deal with is how to love people well that you disagree with. caleb kaltenbach was raised by two lesbian moms and a gay dad and was brought up as an atheist. he became a christian in high school and had to navigate many challenging conversations with his family who did not embrace his faith. now, he's dedicated his life to helping christians reconcile with communities that have been hurt by the church. don't miss this powerful conversation about how to love people even when you disagree.

thrive worship was on the road the last few months with winter jam! we stole some time with one of the lead worship artists, corbin phillips. from backstage ping pong to authentic worship even when you're not feeling it, this conversation was grounded and so helpful. he left us with practical tips like swapping the question, "how did I do" for "how were they ministered to?" and his ending advice is something every aspiring worship pastor needs to hear.

we love morgan may. you will too. morgan vulnerably shared the "not cute stuff" in her story. if you're in the midst of a mental battle, this episode is a must listen. she encouraged us that our words about God's faithfulness matter most when we're in the middle of the battle. she called us to faithfulness inside the worst of our storms—let God be great, you be faithful.

pastor curt harlow is our all time favorite d time speaker at thrive college. we asked him some honest questions about competition vs. partnership between churches. he challenged us to break the mold on how we view pastors and he gave us some gold on helpful ways to prepare for our future calling. if you're ever discouraged about the competition you see between churches or anxious about discerning your calling, this episode is for you!
megan poured life into us. she spoke honestly about her desperate desire to meet Jesus in her everyday and gave us 1 million tips on how to do so. ok it wasn't 1 million, but her intentionality to bring Jesus into every moment sparked a passion in us to do the same. this conversation was dripping with passion and good ideas. we know this episode will spark the same in you!
we sat down with influential christian rapper, kb, and asked him about his artistry—from his creative process to where he finds inspiration and how he navigates the intersection of culture and his faith. he spoke honestly about the perils of being elevated in the music industry, reminding us that it's not worth it if you're not living for Jesus.
we sat down and talked all things relationships! in honor of love month, we let this conversation go extra long. if you're anything like us, you need practical help navigating how to love Jesus and date well. we get into a bit of everything here, from deciding whether you're ready for a relationship to having the conversation about when to have kids. for the record, dena looked it up and cheyne's right. you'll have to listen to know why.
pastor chad veach was FUN. he had us laughing from the start, then things quickly got deep. for anyone desiring to do great things for God, this conversation is a powerful call to not play games with the anointing God puts on your life.
when we closed the door after pastor wes left the studio, everyone in the room exploded in conversation, trading their favorite parts. this is a guy who believes in young leaders. we felt it in every word he said. wes gave us the foundation for why we need every generation working together and the role young leaders play.
this was one of our favorite conversations so far. we sat down with ricky jenkins who pastors in the coachella valley and asked him about marriage, ministry, and curveball-why are there so many denominations and factions in christianity? his wisdom and depth gave us clear priorities and clear vision for a godly life of true ministry.
dr. craig hazen is an apologetics wizard. he leads the apologetics masters program at biola university so we asked him, why so many people are losing their faith in college and what we can do to prepare ourself for the challenges we'll encounter? he gave us great advice on where we should go with our tough questions about the truth of christianity.
wow. simply wow. we felt christine's passion for God's word and her zeal that we advance his kingdom in every word. if you've ever struggled with the thought that you're too messed up, that you've done too much or too much has been to you for God to truly use you, this conversation is for you. may you walk away as encouraged and challenged as we did.
we see it all over social media, people "deconstructing" what they believe. dr. john marriott has a literal doctorate in why people deconvert from christianity. he's crazy smart and left us thinking deeply and caring even more for those walking away from our faith.
It's our first episode!! We sat down with Francis Chan and it was not what we expected. Ok, yes. He challenged us. We expected that. It's Francis Chan after all. But he left us with some messy answers to tough questions. We're still thinking about them! What about you?
