I'm usually the kind of person who doesn't really give a shit about age. Like I'm not the kind who tries to hide her age or who feels embarrassed about being older.

But I think because of all the things that happened to me in the last couple of weeks, closing the chapter that is my twenties made me feel so emotional.

It makes me want to grieve that era mostly because I realized that a big chunk of the 20-something year old me are things that I have outgrown, and things that I am now longer going to cary with me as I enter my 30s.

I really DON'T want to be dramatic, but I feel like I'm shedding my old skin. And while my 20s were probably the greatest years of my life so far, I know that it's time to say goodbye to an old identity.

And so for this episode, as I wrap up this chapter, I want to share with you the top 20 things that I learned in my twenties.

Enjoy!

Have you ever wondered what it takes for creatives to keep thriving in the online space?

Well, in this episode, Denice of @sestravisuals shares with us her secret on keeping the momentum to show up and thriving as a Filipino Freelancer.

In our conversation, we also touched on some really interesting topics like:

  • The importance of having a community and being surrounded by like minded people in this journey
  • The mindset shift from catering purely to foreign clients to now serving local clients
  • How she stays sane through having a slow lifestyle

This was a much longer episode by Riverside has done me dirty (again...) but thankfully, I was still able to get the meat from this episode.

SLOW SEASONS DON'T LAST!

In the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and strive to always be on the go. But what happens when things slow down?

In this episode, I invited one of my new internet friends, Kimberli to share her experience on how she found peace in the slow season. We'll dive into the concept of embracing slow seasons, setting boundaries, and finding growth within these periods of rest.

I love being working remote, but sometimes I just miss being in an office set-up. You feel me?

In this episode, I talk about how I miss the whole office set-up. I miss the cute outfits, the passive-aggressive email wars, the post-office beer night.

I mean I looove that I work remote and that I can literally do anything and go anywhere I want. But, let's be real -- it can be lonely.

And so for this episode, I share more about that. And I'm curious -- do any of you feel that, too?

In this episode, I sit down with 4 of my friends as we talk about how it was like for us to start out in an industry that we know nothing about. In this episode, I finally got to process my thoughts around hiring your first team member and delegating tasks. I find it funny that I'm sharing advice about this when it wasn't too long ago where I was pulling my hair out figuring out why none of this is working for me.

But as they say, the best teacher is experience. And over time, I think i'm slowly starting to get the hang of it.

So for this episode, I'll be sharing 5 things I wish I knew before onboarding my first hire.

"I needed to take a pause and find myself again so I can rekindle the spark and love that I have for my business." - Kath

In this episode, I had the chance to literally sit down with one of my good friends, Kath of KCD Digital where we talk about how she took a step back from her business this year.

We dive into:

1. The Importance of Rest and the crucial role that it plays in maintaining productivity, creativity, and overall well-being. She shared how taking intentional breaks and self-care practices allowed her to recharge her energy and show up better for her business.

2. Setting Boundaries and why it is vital for maintaining work-life balance and preventing burnout. She shares about the icky conversation she had with her clients where she communicated this change to them.

3. How Finding Yourself Helps You Show-up Better. We dove into the importance of understanding yourself, your values, and your passions can fuel your entrepreneurial journey, helping you show up authentically and excel in your business endeavors.

So if you're also in the middle of confusion, a breakdown, or if you're just not sure where you're headed next, then this episode is for you.

If you're a freelance creative, I'm pretty sure you've heard the question: Is that career even stable?

And to finally put that question to rest, I invited one of the people whom I look up to on the Internet--both for her talent and her looks (lol), to share her take on this question since she's been in this space for far too long.

In this episode we talked about:

  • how people thought she was a scammer because she was inviting everyone to be a freelancer (it's giving MLM)

  • how she finally found her own space and stayed in a fast-paced industry

  • the importance of showing up even when you're fully booked (felt this a bit too much lol)

  • and finding opportunities abroad -- specifically Spain

"I have to give myself permission first to outgrow some of the things that I do in business." - Hanna

Outgrowing things--especially those that you hold so closely in your heart is never easy.

In this episode of Spill the Creativity Podcast, I share with you a conversation that I had with Hanna (again) way back in May 2023 when we were both going through the motions in terms of personal and professional transitions.

As highly emotional people, these changes were so hard to come to terms with mainly because:

  1. We have kind of attached ourselves into a certain idea of how our businesses should be

  2. We have spent so many hours and resources developing this idea/persona

  3. Letting go is not always easy...

And so if you are going through a transition yourself, join our conversation and probably learn a thing or two from our own experiences.

Spoiler Alert: we are both in much better places now which could only mean one thing--these transitions will never be a walk in the park but they are somehow necessary.

Enjoy!

"The frustration that you experience when you work in coffee shops is the price you have to pay for having this lifestyle. It takes a while to get used to it, but when you do, it's actually really fun." - Sarah

Having experienced what it felt like to work outside of my messy work desk made me swear that I will NEVER be a digital nomad. But after having this conversation with Sarah, I think I might try again and give this digital nomad thing another try.

Welcome to Spill the Creativity Podcast! In this episode, I'll be speaking (again) with Sarah of @scaleonsocialsmedia to tell her about my frustrations about being a digital nomad, while she shares her insights on why she prefers this kind of lifestyle.

I had so much fun talking to her, and I love that she shared some valuable tips for those who want to give this a try as well. From struggling with crappy wifi in cute coffee shops to bloopers with immigration officers, I think that we had it all covered!

So if you're planning to go on a working trip soon, be sure to tune in until the end (because we pretty much just made chika in the beginning lol), to hear tips from the digital nomad herself.

"We have now the opportunity to change and we now have the opportunity to choose. We are ever evolving and we are really supposed to change as humans anyway."

As you might already know, change is inevitable. But why is it so difficult for us to deal with when it happens?

In this episode, I talk about the fear and anxiety that goes along when we deal with change--whatever change that could be. Because yes, change is scary, change is uncomfortable, but change is also pretty normal.

Maybe it's about time that we stop resisting it and just allow it to guide us?

Hope you find this episode useful!

"We now have the power to choose our own path and make our own path."

And just like that quarter one is about to come to a close. How did yours look like?

In this episode, I want to talk about it the danger of the "shoulds." That desire to constantly always want to do more, achieve more, and be more. Because while its great to be goal-oriented and have all these aspirations, sometimes we also need to take a step back and just breathe and appreciate all things that we have worked so hard for.

“I think I'm happier living on an island, having a simpler life, kind of like a minimalist life somehow. You just focus on what brings value to you and what enriches your soul.” - Sarah

In this episode of Spill the Creativity Podcast, a former hotelier who threw away her American dream and ditched the city to live a simple and peaceful isla life joins me to talk about the ups and downs of being a digital nomad. Sarah shares her journey from being laid off during the pandemic to traveling to Boracay and deciding on a gut feeling to stay there for good. In this open-hearted conversation, she talks about how it’s possible to build the life you want as long as you just stop overthinking and just do the damn thing.

If you're also dipping your toes into the digital nomad lifestyle, be sure to stick around until the end of the episode. We covered:

  • How she pivoted her career to the virtual space
  • Debunking common misconceptions about remote work
  • And what you need to know to embrace the freedom of being an independent creative

Chatting with Sarah was an absolute blast. Make sure to tune in and join the fun! Plus, we talked about our shared love for the Spiraling Higher podcast with Sam Chung and Gina Bourne. Check them out for more inspiration.

"It shouldn't be you and me against each other. It should be you and me against the problem" - Reg

This is a long overdue Valentine's Day special where I was supposed to feature one of my fave IG couples and business partners, Yvette and Reg. But, as they say, every day is Valentine's Day, so today I am breaking my 2-week hiatus by sharing this lovely conversation I had with them.

In this episode, I sat down with Yvette and Reg, the power couple behind @alpasmade where we talked about the risk of building and growing a business with your life partner.

I got a sneak peak of how their love and biz life looks like specifically:

  • How they set boundaries when it comes to work
  • Complimenting each other's strengths and trusting in each other's skills
  • And advice they can share to people who plan build a business with their life partners as well

Growing a business and raising a child is not a joke. In today's episode, I'll be sitting down with #BossMom, Mama Rics of @ricsocials to share with us her experience of navigating the freelance world while raising her baby boy.

A lot of career moms are currently exploring the freelance path because of the promise of having time freedom, thus having more flexibility to be a mom. But is it really that easy?

We are gonna answer that in this episode where we deep dive into:

  • Pursuing your dreams while dealing with mom guilt
  • Being transparent and have clear communication with your client
  • Setting your boundaries and your non-negotiables

"Should I spend my life's savings for this course that promises time and financial freedom in 3 months?"

Quick answer is: NO. If it's too good to be true, then maybe it is too good to be true.

As an educated person, I should have known better.

But I guess, I had to go through all of those so I can make this episode. LOL.

In this week's episode, I decided to create another "I wish I knew" episode, and this time, we are talking about every beginner's red flag: hoarding courses.

It's ok. You don't have to deny it. We've all been there, and there's no shame in that.

I want to talk about it, because courses, coaches, and mentors are literally sprouting in every corner of the internet almost everyday. And now that there are so many of them, we have to be all the more careful about which ones we should sign up for and which ones we should invest in.

So if you're planning to spend some $$$ on a course, perhaps this episode can help you decide if it's worth it or not.

"You will only feel stagnant if you don't enjoy what you have and keep comparing yourself to the progress of others." - Shiela

In this episode of Spill the Creativity Podcast, I will be joined by another Biz Bestie, Shiela of @sfmdigital to share about her experience as a full-time corporate girlie and a part-time business owner. A common trend is that most of us wish to "escape the rate race" and find freedom in the creative industry, even in when the situation is impractical.

So for this episode, we took a deep dive on:

  • The constant pressure to quit your day job to pursue a creative career
  • How to see your situation as an edge if you have a full time job
  • And the secret to managing a day job and a successful sidehustle

"Having a 6-figure income is not a requirement to be considered successful in this space. " - Tish

In this episode of Spill the Creativity Podcast, I'm going to get real about how freelancing and living the creative life is being packaged as an easy money-making career on the Internet. And while it really can be easy, sometimes we forget that we have to go through the difficult times first before it becomes easy.

And this episode is here to remind you about all of that:

  • That it takes work and time to thrive in this space
  • That some people are the exceptions and not the rule, therefore they should NOT be the standard
  • And that you should NOT tie your success to how much you're earning as a creative

This is going to be short and sweet so I hope you still learn something from this.

"Should I quit my job?"

This is a question that I get a bit too often on my DMs, both from aspiring and experienced creatives.

And while I did learn a lot from quitting my day job, it is not exactly something that I would recommend to anyone especially if they have not thoroughly thought this through, or if they haven't mapped out at least a short term plan.

If this is something that you are also thinking about, or if quitting your day job and pursuing something else is on top of your resolutions list, then make sure to listen until the end of this episode because I will be talking about:

  • How being self-aware can you help you decide whether you should quit your job or not
  • The importance of having enough funds before finally taking the leap
  • And the impact of having trusting yourself and this entire process

We all have different reasons to quit, but I hope my experience and my learnings can help you decide.
