Dean Wenger and her team share pedagogical implications and bring in the teacher perspective. In this virtual workshop, they explore the infamous AI application, ChatGPT and discuss how LSSU can use it as a tool in classes and across the curriculum at LSSU. They focus on practical applications and implications of ChatGPT for our classes and our teaching practices.
Professor Kipka talks about three different grading schemes and discusses advantages and disadvantages of each. These grading schemes (traditional, standards-based, and mastery) have all been used in the intermediate algebra courses at Lake State. These schemes are not content-specific, however, and could easily be used outside of mathematics.Click here to watch this video in a new window
Joseph Mold, the Executive Director of Online Learning and Instructional Design at Bay College joins us through Zoom and will talk about Open Educational Resources (OER). Bay College has made significant progress in reducing the cost of textbooks for their students by implementing OER initiatives. Joseph will give an overview of some OER concepts/ideas as well as discuss how Bay College has worked to address this issue.

The burgeoning cannabis industry in Michigan and beyond has produced a demand for new degrees in cannabis business and cannabis chemistry. This need for skilled workers with scientific and business experience spans from cultivation, to processing, to sales, to compliance. Despite many institutions having responded with various forms of training for individuals interested in employment within the sector, Lake Superior State University maintains its position at the forefront of cannabis education.
