Healing isn't as straightforward as baking cookies from a recipe; it's more like concocting a personalized potion with a pinch of this, a dash of that, and perhaps a sprinkle of unicorn dust for good measure. 🧙‍♂️Melanie Goldman dropped some profound insights in this chat. Essentially, she pointed out that there's no universal remedy for healing. It's akin to finding that perfect pair of jeans – what fits snugly on your bestie might leave you feeling like a stuffed sausage. So, it's all about discovering what resonates with you.And here's the kicker – Melanie champions tapping into your inner wisdom. Think of it as having your own personal Yoda whispering sage advice into your ear, minus the cryptic riddles. 🌟She's also a big advocate for acceptance. You know, embracing the chaos of life before sending in the cleanup crew. Once you've made peace with that, you can start making strides forward.Oh, and let's not forget the spiritual aspect....but I don't want to spill ALL the beans...So, in a nutshell – healing is akin to a choose-your-own-adventure novel. You must forge your own path, heed your inner guru, and sprinkle in some positivity along the way.

What can you do if you can't access or afford DBT therapy with a professional? What if you are on a waitlist and need tools to deal with life right now?

I used to think that I'm totally screwed since I couldn't afford therapy but in this podcast Alicia and Kat discuss options that are totally free!

Alicia also owns the free DBT resource site DBTSelfHelp.com to assist in making DBT more accessible. DBTSelfHelp.com is the most visited and oldest DBT-focused site online and reached over 50,000 people monthly basis

Kat is the Mental Health Program Manager for Online DBT Skills and the Site Manager for DBTSelfHelp.com. She manages the back end and social media for both and brings a peer perspective to the work. Kat also wrote the content for the revamp of DBTSelfHelp.com.

In this podcast we discuss what AB1412 is and why it was crucial to introduce this legislation.

We also talk about the power and possibility that people with BPD have to create change, speak up, speak out and advocate for a better future.

It's unfortunate that effective evidence-based treatments are highly inaccessible for most because they are so expensive.

So join Paula Tusiani-Eng, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Emotions Matter and Audrey Treptow, a volunteer for Emotions Matter on the Advocacy Committee, to learn how you can help make the world a better place for those diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.

How does the intertwining of our past traumas shape our daily lives, and can the combined power of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) offer a beacon of hope for those with PTSD and BPD?

In this episode, Annie McCall delves deep into the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative potential of specialized therapies.

She also sheds light on an intriguing notion: often unknowingly, each one of us has practiced some form of exposure in our daily lives, making therapy more relatable than one might initially believe.

For individuals with a history of self-harm, suicidal tendencies, or Borderline Personality Disorder, DBT emerges as a beacon of hope.

Moreover, she addresses the lesser-discussed impacts of trauma, including persistent feelings of shame and self-loathing, and emphasize how DBT PE offers tailored solutions for these emotional wounds.

Lastly, Annie extends the conversation beyond the conventional understanding of PTSD symptoms, underscoring its profound influence on various aspects of daily life—from personal relationships to work and academic successes.

A beautiful story about recovery. Jade was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder at 16, earlier than most doctors are willing to diagnose. She went to doctor after doctor, therapist after therapist, inpatient and outpatient treatment. Right as she was preparing to end her own suffering, she met someone who changed her entire life in ways she could not have imagined.

Since her recovery, she's been devoting her life to those who feel as lost and hopeless as she was. Jade is now a mental health coach, who uses her personal experience in recovery from Borderline Personality Disorder, depression, and anxiety, to help those struggling to learn and use coping skills and manage their lives with mastery. She is training people in DBT Skills, pairing with individuals and treatment professionals to provide support and accountability on the recovery journey.⁣

In episode 5 I reviewed the 9 criteria for BPD as per the DSM.

So is there 7 more?

Well, maybe.

In the book "Mindfulness for Borderline Personality Disorder", the authors bring up 7 more.

On the podcast I give you my opinion on each of the seven.

I would love to hear what you think about it :)

Fay

Dear listeners, I decided to take a short break of publishing interviews and go over the 9 criteria for BPD.

One needs 5 out of the 9 to receive a diagnosis.

I hope this is informative and you enjoy

What happens when you are your patient's Favorite Person (FP)?

Frequently when it comes to an FP, we don't know where we end and they begin... it's like a continuum. We also tend to sculp ourselves to be exactly who we think our FP needs us to be in order to make this work. BUT It just doesn't work and in we end up suffering tremendously.

Listen to today's episode to hear more words of wisdom from Jennifer May, a NY state licensed clinical psychologist who has spent over 2 decades working with people struggling with borderline personality disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, complex/developmental trauma, serious and persistent mental illness, substance use disorders, and legal issues.

AND she leaves us with a tip on how to make the most out of therapy

Do people with Borderline Personality Disorder hate themselves differently than others? Dr. Blaise Aguirre describes how it seems to differ.

It's one thing if your enemy is telling you that you're bad, but if the people closest to you keep on repeating these messages over and over again, telling you that you are a bad kid, doing things wrong, etc. then what other conclusion can a temperamentally sensitive kid come up with?

We discuss everything (well almost everything ;)  ) from my background to the problems LGBTQ people face in extremely religious communities face, to su!c1de, self-harm and self-hatred in people with BPD and more.

Dr Blaise Aguirre is a beacon of hope for the BPD Community and I'm so grateful for all that he's doing.

Our very first show is with Dr. Skye Fitzpatrick an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at

York University and director of the Treating and Understanding Life-threatening

behaviours and Posttraumatic stress (TULiP) lab. She focuses on identifying ways to

optimize, expedite, and broaden access to BPD and PTSD treatments on their own

and as they co-occur. In the interest of optimizing and expediting BPD and PTSD

treatments, Dr. Fitzpatrick has become particularly focused on harnessing the power

of relationships through the development and study of conjoint or dyadic

interventions. In the interest of broadening access to BPD and PTSD interventions,

she also develops and tests online, remote-delivered, and brief interventions.

As Dr. Skye mentioned they are currently recruiting participants for their Feeling Connected Study. Check out their research at https://tuliplab.ca/feeling-connected.html . If you are interested to contact bpdstudy@yorku.ca for inquiries.

Hi and welcome to the BPD Bravery Show.

I’m your host Fay Green and I too have borderline personality disorder.

On this podcast We will be discussing tips, strategies, and helpful tools along with struggles, triumphs and success stories related to BPD.

You can expect to listen to interviews with top mental health professionals in this field.

We will also feature people who have or have had BPD and how they overcame their daily struggles.

Each episode will end with a practical tip that can be implemented right away.

I started this community because I felt so alone in this world after receiving my diagnosis and I also had no idea where to turn to for help.

I hope that by joining the BPD Bravery community you too get to feel less alone in this struggle and gain practical methods on how to overcome your daily challenges.

For now, relax and enjoy this podcast. It would mean the world to me if you like, share and subscribe to this show. If you feel extra generous then leave us a helpful review, I promise you that it’ll make me do a happy dance.

With love,

Fay Green
