Both sides claimed opening day victories and will be hoping to return to the lofty heights of recent years when both teams faced off in county finals.
Two teams who currently sit on three points after their opening three games meet when Bennettsbridge and Ballyhale Shamrocks go head-to-head in Thomastown.
The Shamrocks were be hoping to build on their first win of the campaign against Graigue Ballycallan in the previous round, while Bennettsbridge were going for a first victory since their opening night win over Erin’s Own.

Shamrocks captured their 17th county title in 2019 by dispatching James Stephens in UMPC Nowlan Park with a convincing victory.
It was the first time since 2011 that the two sides met in the final, however, Shamrocks claimed the title three times since then and were going for their first consecutive title since beating James Stephens in 2009.
Similar to the 2022 final Shamrocks had only a week's break after beating O'Loughlins in the semi-finals the week before while James Stephens had a two-week break after beating Erins Own in the other semi.

O’Loughlin Gaels were the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the semi final by Ballyhale Shamrocks. While James Stephens dispatched of St. martins in the semi final.
Both teams had met the week before on the 23rd of October but could not be separated with Shamrocks 0-11 to James Stephens 1-08
Henry Shefflin was in his pomp, with the Shamrocks man the top scorer in the championship coming into the game. However intercounty teammate Eoin Larkin was the one who shone on the day outscoring Henry 1-11 to 8 points.
The game finished 0-15 - 1-20 in favour of the Village, with captain Jackie Tyrell lifting the ninth Tom Walsh cup for the city side.

Relive the 2008 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final as Official Kilkenny GAA ran riot against southern neighbours Waterford.
It was the fourth time the teams played each other in the final, having met previously in 1957, 1959, and 1963.
Kilkenny won their 31st All-Ireland title and in doing so overtook Cork on the roll of honour.

It was a repeat of the 2007 decider with the Munster and Leinster champions going head-to-head in front of a capacity crowd at a sun-drenched GAA headquarters.
As always, Brendan Hennessy and Michael Walsh were there to call the action on a monumental occasion for Irish sport.

Well on the 2nd of September 2007, Kilkenny met Limerick in The All Ireland Senior Hurling final.
This match was the 120th All-Ireland hurling final with Kilkennywinning 2–19 to 1–15.
It was the first meeting of these two sides in the All-Ireland final since 1974 when Kilkenny were the winners.
Kilkenny were aiming to capture a second All-Ireland title in succession while Limerick were hoping to capture a first title since 1973.

In a ruthless first-half showing, Kilkenny hit the break 1-17 to 0-06 ahead and while Clare managed to carve out some good scores, Kilkenny's 1-9 in the second half was more than enough to tee up a 17th All-Ireland final for Brian Cody.

Also on that day, Kilkenny met Clare for only the 7th time ever in the Championship. The first meeting occurred back in 1932, with Kilkenny winning on the day 3-3 to 2-3. A bit closer to the 2006 encounter was 2004 All Ireland quarter-final replay, a replay in which Kilkenny also won. In fact Clare have only got the better of Kilkenny once in the Championship.
After an absence of sixty-five years, Clare and Kilkenny renewed their rivalry on 10 August 1997 in the All-Ireland semi-final. The finals score of 1-17 to 1-13 saw Clare record their first and only defeat of Kilkenny.

The Kilkenny minor team were deservedly beaten by five-in-a-row seeking Galway on Friday night in the Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor semi-final.
Richie Mulrooney's side got within two points of the champions early in the second half but the Tribesmen proved too strong as they ran out 0-23 to 1-12 winners in Thurles.
The defeat came just weeks after Kilkenny narrowly lost the delayed 2020 All-Ireland to the same side and manager Mulrooney described Friday's game as "the toughest defeat in my time in charge".

Joey Holden claimed Man of the Match as Ballyhale Shamrocks defeated Kilmallock of Limerick of Limerick, 1-18 to 1-6.
Near 30,000 people watched in Croke Park as Ballyhale claimed their first All-Ireland victory since 2010. The win gave them their sixth All-Ireland title over all and put them as outright leaders on the all-time roll of honour.
Kilmallock appeared in the final for the second time in their history, however suffered the same fate this time as they did previously.

Kilkenny hoped that they could start the league better than last year. It will be a difficult task with seven players either retired or have stepped away from the panel for 2021 Anne Dalton, Michelle Quilty, Anna Farrell, Catherine Foley, Noreen O’Keeffe, Lucinda Gahan and Edel Coonan.
Kilkenny last won the league in 2018 and the last meeting of the two sides was back in 2019 when Kilkenny ran away with the game.
