Do you know what "element" you are? Discover what Element you are by listening to Part 1 of “In Your Element” episode where the Moxy women describe each of the 5 Elements in detail! In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we have what's called the 5 Elements; it’s both a medical and personality philosophy that gives us insight about ourselves. The 5 elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Each Element represents a certain constitution type - from the physical look, tendencies of emotional expressions, flavor preferences, and even health symptoms and medical condition tendencies and much more. For example, if you're the Wood type, you tend to be tall and lanky (like a tree!), are a leader or the entrepreneur type but can have tendencies towards anger/irritability issues and liver conditions if you're out of balance. By knowing your Element, it'll help you understand why you are the certain way you are and also understand your health tendencies. In Part 2 of “In Your Element,” we will then go into detail on how to take a proactive approach to address the imbalances of your Element to bring you back to balance, so be on the lookout for the drop of Part 2! As mentioned in the episode, if you want to take a quiz and find out more about your Element, email mariaelizabeth@ittakesmoxy.com for a PDF copy! Meet the ladies behind It Takes Moxy. This is a behind the scenes peek at the amazing women behind the podcast. Dr. Priya shares her family story and it’s amazing. Her parents had an arranged marriage, and as she says, “it was match.com before that was a thing!” Like many, she had a love-hate relationship with her corporate job after college. She was looking for something else when a friend’s mom shared her journey with Chinese medicine. She knew this was a good fit and it set her on her path in the wellness industry. Maria Elizabeth shares her immigrant story. At a young age, she realized that she was “different” since she was undocumented. She followed the fireball in her belly when she had the chance to share her story. That led to political activism at a young age. Hear her journey from community organizer to healer. It’s amazing how both worlds have so much in common. Luriko shares her story that took her across the world. Born in Colombia she also lived in Japan before moving to the United States with her family. In a small world moment, Dr. Priya and Luriko both lived in the Chicago suburbs at the around the same time but didn’t meet until many years later when they were both in California where they live today. Luriko followed her interest in arts and worked at a museum. It was fulfilling work but due was let go due to financial pressures. She began working for a Japanese vitamin company and found a real interest in the holistic approach to health. Helping people was part of her passion, so when she learned about acupuncture, it clicked. Energetically she knew it was the right move. When COVID began, Luriko was getting information from Chinese practitioners. She wanted to share this and reached out to her connections to see if they wanted to learn about what she was hearing. Dr. Priya and Maria answered her call for help. She was asked to start zoom meetings and said yes even though she had no idea how any of that worked. A movement was started! It Takes Moxy is a platform to support women and moms so they can support their families. These amazing women are all women of color, immigrants, practitioners, and moms. Together they recognized the need to help moms who aren’t knowledgeable about holistic, natural health practices. It Takes Moxy is a place to celebrate and empower women and moms. The Moxy moms are talking about strategies to center. Centering is a technique to help silent the mind and decrease anxiety. It’s something that all 3 women use in their own way. Dr. Priya shares the shock and numbness that hit her when the pandemic first started. Next was anxiety and worry. Being a single mom with a daughter home from school added to the stress. She was reminded that sometimes the Universe stops us, forces us to slow down. That’s what came next. Meditation, yoga, and other spiritual practices in community. Luriko shares her centering journey. She’s a mom too, with a son in elementary school. She knew what was coming because she’s in touch with people in China so she created a group of like-minded people so they could learn from and support each other. The first group call had over 70 people! She spent time with her family and focused on helping her son. Maria Elizabeth was fearful but knew she had support if she needed it. She surrendered to the fear of what was happening and the fear of an unpredictable future. That allowed her to be present, and open to opportunity. At a time when there was so much out of personal control, she focused on what she could control. Her daughter helped her stay in the moment as only kids can. She also used journaling with her daughter as well. It was a way to stay present and grateful for the time with her family and friends. What can any of us do to center ourselves in times of stress or uncertainty?
