It emphasises that without the source of refreshing life could be frustrating and hopeless and those living in that situation are said to be in utter darkness or a sate of spiritual gloom. The episode suggests returning to God who is the author of life and the fountain of living water as a solution particularly as all Biblical characters who did so, found solace and victory.

EXCEEDING GRACE, describes Christ as the incarnate WORD and author of the NEW COVENANT. It draws a line between the old covenant which was championed by Moses through sacrifice and code of conduct and the NEW COVENANT which is through Jesus Christ conveyed by GRACE through the HOLY SPIRIT. The message promises sufficiency of GRACE to get through life endeavours and benefit from the totality of the covenant provisions through the abundance of the GRACE of God (Ephesians 3:20,21).

LONGER AND SAFER is an encouraging episode which describes God as the Architect and pathfinder of Destiny. He designs and also chats the course. The story of Israel travelling through the alternative southern route for 40 years as against the direct northern route which would have taken 40 days is under reference. It teaches that what seems like delay in God's program is His design to achieve the desired personality in His people to enable them become what He purposed for them to His glory. So when God is involved it is never late though it may delay from man's point of view.

The fact that the Lord initiated the journey and knew ahead of time what was going to happen and also prayed to avert it, should encourage the faithful to be strong in their faith.
