Curt LoPresti grew up in a legendary aviation family. His father, Roy LoPresti, worked on the Apollo Lunar Lander, and was the man behind making some of the most iconic general aviation aircraft go faster than many thought possible. He turned the Grumman AA-5 Traveler into the sleeker and faster Cheetah and Traveler, and made Mooneys go faster than even Al Mooney himself. His son Curt followed in his dad’s footsteps, working together with Roy and his brothers Jim, Bud and David at LoPresti/Piper, developing the incredible LoPresti Fury, and eventually going on to found LoPresti Speed Merchants, where they developed speed, efficiency and cooling modifications for many of the general aviation aircraft that we all hold dear. Hear his amazing story!

Xyla Foxlin is a mechatronics engineer, a pilot, and creator who developed a high-power rocketry kit designed for Level 1 & 2 certification flights, has her own signature line of Estes rocket kits coming out, builds everything from campers to boats, and the most important project, of course, is the Pietenpol she is building from raw lumber based on the original 1929 blueprints. While that aircraft is under construction, she keeps airborne in her 1946 Cessna 140. Foxlin has also emerged as a national voice for pilot mental health. After losing her FAA medical for seeking therapy, she led a campaign challenging regulations that deter aviators from seeking medical care. Following the release of her video "The FAA is in Crisis”, over 3,300 messages to 442 legislators were delivered. The Mental Health in Aviation Act was introduced in the House in April, with expected Senate introduction soon

Marc Cook has been a household name in the world of aviation media and experimental aircraft for as long as I can remember. Marc took the helm of Kitplanes magazine in the early 2000s, eventually doing two separate stints as Editor in Chief before joining Van’s Aircraft in the spring of 2025. He has built two aircraft (and has his name on a third), and has flown more than 200 types over four decades. He is truly someone with an informed and unique perspective on the fascinating world of general aviation.

Heidi Porch is a retired Delta Air Lines pilot whose 35-year career took her from the flight deck of DC-9s, through the Airbus family of jets and even commanding the iconic Boeing 747-400. However, her pursuit of the flight levels began the scrappy way, ferrying single-engine Cessnas from the factory in Wichita to California, and then across the Pacific Ocean to Australia and New Zealand. While ferrying a Cessna 182 across the pacific, her engine failed while still 540 miles east of Hawaii, forcing her to ditch in the vast Pacific Ocean. Her story is a lesson of skill, determination and survival, documented in detail in her book, "Ditching the Sky". https://a.co/d/3Jed78h

On February 4th 2026, AOPA announced their decision to replace Darren Pleasance as the organization’s CEO & President after only one year in the position. This decision shocked the membership and the industry, because in a relatively short time, Darren had made a significant impact connecting with pilots everywhere and becoming a strong advocate for the general aviation community.
This is Darren's first interview since leaving AOPA. We talk with Darren about the state of general aviation when he began his short tenure at AOPA, what he learned & accomplished over the past year, and his thoughts on the future of general aviation and the organizations that support it.

Tracey Curtis-Taylor followed Mary Heath’s historic 1928 solo flight from Cape Town to London; followed by an epic flight following Amy Johnson’s 1930 flight from England to Australia. Not wanting to leave out good ‘ole North America, Tracey capped off her trilogy of adventures by flying the US Transcontinental mail route in tribute to Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly across America. Tracey’s book “Bird” chronicles these epic adventures and her own personal story & struggles. It’s a fascinating tale of the challenges of cross continent flying and pushing through immeasurable logistical and aeronautical obstacles. It is a celebration of the historic achievements of the female pioneering aviators of the 1920's and 30's.

Juan is a commercial airline pilot and A&P mechanic, with over 6,000 hours in everything from small single-engine piston trainers up to the C141 and C130, as well as the Boeing 757 & 767 aircraft that he commands in his “day job”.

Jimmy Graham is a legend in the NFL, beginning with the New Orleans Saints in 2010, his career included playing for the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears before returning to the Saints in 2023. During his career, he made five trips to the pro bowl and became one of the most prolific Tight-ends that the game has even known. What you may NOT know, is that, off the field, Jimmy is an extremely accomplished fixed and rotor-wing pilot who’s approach to aviation is as disciplined as his approach to football. His flying takes him across the treeline in his Vietnam-era UH-1 Huey, onto remote lakes in his DeHavilland Beaver on floats, upside down in his Extra 330 and into the flight levels in his Turbo Commander.

Bill “Tiger” Lyons enlisted in the Army Air Force within months of graduating high school in 1942. Although he had never learned to drive a car, he was trained to fly a P-51 Mustang, flying 63 combat missions over Europe with the 355th Fighter Group in 1944-1945, protecting U.S. bombers from German fighter planes. During his tour, he shot down two German fighters and damaged one of the most elusive and fast German Fighters of the war, the Messerschmidt ME-262 jet. As a Jewish soldier fighting in the skies over Nazi Europe, the consequences of being shot down were even greater than most. By the end of the war, Bill Lyons had been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with eight Oak Leaf Clusters, five European Theater of Operations Battle Stars and two Presidential Unit Citations.

Lt. Col, George Hardy (99 years old) is a remarkable individual and an American hero. His story, of joining the Army Air Corps in 1943 at the age of 17, eager to join the war in defense of our country, is one shared by many young warriors of the time. But what sets Col. Hardy’s story apart is that, as a young African American man during the 1940s, his path to service and in particular to becoming a fighter pilot made him part of the historic group of young men known as the Tuskegee Airman. Col. Hardy flew 21 combat missions over Germany in 1945, escorting bombers to their targets. Following the war, he returned to Tuskegee to pay it forward and train new pilots. In 1948, he rejoined another war effort, flying B-29 bombers in 45 combat missions in the Korean War and continued to serve our country through the Vietman War, flying 70 missions at the controls of a C-119 gunship, protecting troops on the ground. Decorations: Dist. Flying Cross with Valor, Air Medal with 11 Oak Leaf Clusters and commendation medal with 1 oak leaf cluster.
Although Col. Hardy did not feel well enough to join us at show time, his dear friend and colleague, Dr. Joi Spraggins, graciously volunteered to join us this evening for a discussion honoring Col. Hardy, and shedding light on this amazing man.

As an F-100 "Misty" fighter pilot in Vietnam, Dick Rutan pioneered the use of tactical jets for what became known as Fast Forward Air Control (or FastFAC). He flew 325 combat missions and survived an ejection when his aircraft was hit by enemy fire. For his valor in combat, Dick Rutan was awarded a silver star and FIVE Distinguished Flying Crosses. Following the war, he became a test pilot and ejected a second time when his aircraft suffered an engine failure. In 1986, Dick Rutan achieved what many consider to be the last great terrestrial aeronautical achievement: piloting the Voyager aircraft on the first non-stop, non-refueled flight around-the-world.

In aviation history, there are only a handful of truly epic firsts: The first powered flight by Orville and Wilbur Wright, the first crossing of the Atlantic by Charles Lindberg, and the first supersonic flight by Chuck Yeager. In 1986, Dick Rutan and Jeanna Yeager achieved what many consider to be the last great terrestrial aeronautical achievement: piloting the Voyager aircraft on the first non-stop, non-refueled flight around-the-world. “SocialFlight Live!” is a live broadcast dedicated to supporting General Aviation pilots and enthusiasts during these challenging times. Dan Schwinn founded Avidyne in 1995 to develop modern avionics that were intuitively easy to use, allowing pilots to focus on flying the airplane, instead of pushing a lot of buttons. As logical as this may seem today, it wasn’t always the case, and we have Dan to thank for much of that as he was one of the brave pioneers of the “glass cockpit” era, and he did this at a time when FAA certification and getting a return on your investment was far from certain.

Beginning as a flight attendant for TWA, Lynn Rippelmeyer blazed an unprecedented path from the cabin to the cockpit. She became a pilot, setting a number of firsts along the way; from the first all-female crew of a scheduled airline in 1977, to the first female captain of the transatlantic Boeing 747 in 1984. During her career, she flew aircraft ranging from a cub on amphibious floats, to the DeHavilland Twin Otter and Boeing airliners including the 727, 737, 747 and 787. Her decades long career paved the way toward gender equality in the airlines and remains an icon for young women looking towards the skies to this day. Her uniform resides in the Smithsonian Museum. Her two books: Life Takes Wings, and the about to be released sequel Life Takes Flight are absolutely outstanding and I literally could not put them down.

For many of us, fall is a time of amazingly beautiful leaf-peeping foliage flights. And, along with that, temperatures that begin to drop. As it gets colder and we bundle ourselves up for flying, we also need to think about how we will keep our aircraft warm for its own protection. Since 1974, Tanis aircraft has been THE #1 name in the world of engine preheating and Doug Evink has lead it’s growth and expansion to become not just an aviation household name, but a global brand in the world of preheating piston, turbine and helicopters world-over. Matt Younkin’s Beech 18 performance is likely the most unusual act on the airshow circuit today. The Beech 18 was never designed for aerobatic flight; however that doesn’t make it incapable of doing just that. A third generation pilot, he is the son of legendary airshow pilot Bobby Younkin & grandson of Jim Younkin who is well-known for designing the Century and Trutrak autopilots. More recently, Matt has been dedicating his time to preserving the stories of what some may call the greatest generation of civil aviators: the Freight Dogs. “SocialFlight Live!” is a live broadcast dedicated to supporting General Aviation pilots and enthusiasts during these challenging times.
