American banks have been going bankrupt. Why? Will this affect Canada or Canadians? Will this affect me? I try to explain the banking failures in the United States very simply, by answering Jenny's questions about Silicon Valley Bank and what went wrong. I am no banking expert nor do I have a crystal ball that sees into the future, but I try to create calm amidst the storm and hope that Canadians have enough financial literacy to have faith in their banks.

International women's day is upon us, as is International Women's Month. Instead of focusing on the statistics of how women are facing challenges in finance, we wanted to celebrate successful women in finance. We discuss a 74 year old grandmother exposing scammers, one massively successful entrepreneurial woman in finance Robin Da Vinci, three female CEO's of large publicly traded companies, and how studies are showing women are better stock market investors than men. It's a fun podcast with a lot to discus, let's get started!

Have you noticed your emotions are tied to your finances? Fear of missing out causes you to overspend, anxiety keeps you from budgeting, and depression stops you from changing bad money habits. This is known as EQ which is your emotional intelligence regarding your finances. Healthy EQ usually leads to being financially healthy, but so few people have it. In her book "The Common Sense Guidebook to Mastering Your Money: Critical Skills You Should Have Been Taught As a Kid...But Never Were" Robin Da Vinci explains EQ + IQ = FQ and in today's personal fianance podcast episode we interview Robin Da Vinci to see what we can learn.Buy the Common Sense Guidebook to Mastering Your Money on Kindle

I interview Gary Paull Jr the CEO of Gauss @GaussGang to discuss blockchain, crypto, and NFT's. For investors in 2022 blockchain related investments were bad, really bad. With worthless crypto, crashing NFT's, and investigative channels like @Coffeezilla exposing scam after scam. The entire experience reminded me of the dot-com bubble and crash. Can blockchain survive? Is it truly worthless like Warren Buffet says, or is it our inevitable future and the future of the next Apple, IBM, or Amazon? Today we discuss the past, the present, and the future of blockchain with a true blockchain CEO, and an experienced retail investor completely new to blockchain. Let's get started!

What are "micro-weddings" and why are they on a Canadian financial podcast discussing personal finance? How about "pocket weddings"? In today's episode we discuss how "inflation" is causing "shrinkflation" of Canadian weddings. I also discuss three types of financial scams in Canada including three specific examples including crypto scams. Nova Scotians should be wary of this so-called "pig-butchering" scheme, which starts with unsolicited messages or advertisements recommending investment in crypto assets.

Tax changes in Canada that you need to know. Yes, taxes are boring, and tax time is stressful, we hope this podcast helps. Because taxes are not just what we have to pay the Canadian government, but they are also an indicator of what the Canadian government is doing for us! From increasing the basic personal amount to offering incentives to buy houses, taxes give us insight into the relationship between the average Canadian and the Liberal government. Also we discuss China, and how China's policies are affecting the Canadian economy and leading to an unpredictable 2023.

In today's Canadian financial podcast discussion we talk about the Canadian economy in 2022 which was seemingly a surprisingly bad year that was not predicted at all by the Bank of Canada. How inflation, interest rates, mortgage rates, and the stock market crash affected the budget of your average Canadian. Also trying to pull out our crystal ball for the 2023 Canadian economy where Cameron says "hope for the best, plan for the worst".
Thank you to all our listeners in 2022 for this Canadian financial podcast debut and growth and cheers to 2023 and another year of growth both for this podcast and personally. Cheers everyone!

On today's episode we discuss the food bank, which is desperately looking for volunteers and DONATIONS, and lots of them. The main topic is money saving ideas for Christmas dinner and Christmas gifts. We discuss saving money tips for the holidays including frugal Christmas dinner ideas and frugal Christmas gift ideas... and to remember that Christmas is about MEMORIES, not JUNK. On a less "fun" tone, I rant about the Bank of Canada increasing interest rates again where, in an attempt to "kill" inflation, they are killing Canadian savings accounts.
Small business discussed in this episode include Opus Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GIC) have value, but are Canadians investing in GIC's for the wrong reasons? Having a low-risk investment during retirement is a must, and GIC rates are high right now, but for younger working Canadians GIC investments may limit their exposure to the stock market, investing in stocks that have historically performed very well. Let's talk about the fall Canadian budget and Chrystia Freeland. We discuss the highlights of the fall budget from the Liberal Government and how it affects Canadians; and for the first time we get a little bit political, with the fall budget fallout on Chrystia Freeland making us think there is some bending of the truth happening when information is presented to Canadians. Also continuing with our "saving money tips" series we discuss what we have done to save money to fight inflation, and finally my two minutes in the stock market summary. A Canadian financial podcast for your earballs, welcome to Canadian Money Matters!

In a surprising change of tune, the Bank of Canada increased base interest rates by 0.5% today. This is less than the expected 0.75% increase or more forecasted by economists, and even more surprising the Bank of Canada was discussing how they don't want to hurt Canadians with more rate hikes, a far cry from their previous announcement of "aggressive rate hikes to KILL inflation". We also start a new competition on the podcast... Money Saving Tips, Financial Advice, or Ideas to Make More Money is going to become a weekly special, where our podcast hosts Cameron and Jenny give you a money saving idea and you can go to our website to vote on the best idea.

Canadian inflation numbers are reported at 6.9% and that's not good for Canada. Many news channels will say how great it is that inflation in Canada has now decreased three months in a row, but those decreases are 0.1% which is negligible and I expect the next Bank of Canada interest rate hike to be another 0.75%. The good news, we discuss how people are finally starting to notice how Grocery stores in Canada are profiting from inflation, and why it's hurting your average Canadian.

We celebrate inflation in Canada down to 7% while also unfortunately pointing out that grocery inflation is getting out of control. I start talking about what "stagflation" is; as there is a financial war going on, where employers are discussing giving employees substantial wage increases in 2023 to keep good employees working, while the Government and Bank of Canada are requesting them not to, over stagflation concerns.
A link to the Sobey's CEO "firing back" at claims that grocery stores are profiting from inflation: https://financialpost.com/news/retail-marketing/sobeys-boss-says-hes-fed-up-with-reckless-and-incendiary-criticisms-about-grocery-profits-amid-inflation

On September 13th the United States released CPI numbers (inflation) which showed inflation had increased again, and unexpectedly. This caused chaos, including crashing the American stock markets and bringing down even the TSX (Canada's Stock Market) by 1.71% This leads to discussion about how investing in a recession can be a great time to invest in stocks! and finally leading to asking the question, if American inflation numbers are this bad, how bad will Canadian inflation be? and what will this do to Canadians with already high debt? When looking at this specifically we look at Canadian Credit Card debt and how scary it is.

Stats Canada released Canadian Unemployment numbers today and it's a mixed bag of emotions. While Canada loses another 40,000 jobs (over 110,000 jobs in the past three months) unemployment moved from 4.9% to 5.4% which still isn't bad. I discuss the loss of jobs and employment, what sectors and people lost their jobs in August, and I discuss whether I should be worried about my job?

The Bank of Canada is raising interest rates again today and inflation in Canada is still high; which got me thinking, how can I save money with rising interest rates and inflation? How can I save money while in debt? Because Canadians are under a higher debt load than ever before, and interest rates keep going up, making this debt more expensive. Well in my research I discover only two major things. One, how affiliate marketing is a dangerous secret trying to keep us from saving money. Two, the only true way to save money.... Let's talk about it! and other Canadian money saving tips.

Retirement planning is hard, today we discuss "why is my retirement savings dropping in 2022"? I use my own retirement portfolio as an example to discuss the gains through 2020 and 2021, and the losses through 2022. I try to explain why thanks to the stock market, inflation, interest rates, and quantitative easing and quantitative tightening why your investment has gone down, and what to expect moving forward. This will apply to all investments, not just retirement savings, including TFSA, RRSP, and any personal investments in the stock market.

I discuss four things in todays podcast; how Canada is changing requirements for employment insurance (EI), how there are too many barriers to green hydrogen in Canada, why the federal government is quantitative tightening and the provincial governments are quantitative easing, and finally how more than ever I feel like the economy including inflation, mortgage rates, jobs, and everything else are very tightly bound to the price of oil.
Thank you to our listeners, the "good thing today" is that this podcast is growing and we reached #32 in Canadian financial podcasts. Cheers!

Jenny joins me to discuss Canadian inflation dropping from 8.1% to 7.6% in July based on cheaper gas prices. That leads us into a discussion about how this will affect interest rates and mortgage rates. I think the final conclusion is inflation is dropping but costs keep rising on everything other than gas, and unfortunately probably a 75 or 100 basis point hike on interest rates in September.

With no co-host to keep me on track I go on a bit of a rant. I discuss the scams out there that give people FOMO (fear of missing out) causing them to invest in pre-revenue companies that do nothing but lose money. I discuss Sara Finance (and others like her) who is a 20 year old kid charging people for a "stock market" course online. I also discuss paying off credit cards and other high interest loans before investing. But MOSTLY, and always, I discuss that the best way to get wealthy is to invest in yourself.

We discuss CPI inflation in the United States and how the (slightly) good news drives Americans CRAZY. Investors are buying crypto, penny stocks, anything they can get their hands on. But surprisingly, the inflation numbers lead us to discuss how grocery stores are making record profits and proffiting off inflation, which really upsets me. As promised, Jenny also reviews the Starbucks #1 drink after Starbucks records an excellent quarter of earning on our last podcast together.

I discuss the stock market and how it relates to American inflation CPI numbers being released this Wednesday. The US Fed was dovish in July and stocks rose significantly, making some people think it was the "bottom" and money flooded into equities. Wednesdays inflation numbers may change all that. After a short vacation in Newfoundland Canada we are back at it. Today we discuss how confusing the Canadian economy is today. Record low unemployment, record high unfilled jobs, and yet most of the jobs people can't make a livable income from due to inflation. The Canadian stock market the TSX is volatile, and green the entire month of July! But is this a "bear market bounce" or is the American FED correct and there is no recession? Finally I discuss how I make investing fun by passing up a coffee from Starbucks to buy 10 shares of Kraken Robotics. Fun times in Canada.

Busiest week of earnings coming this week, the following major players report earnings: Shopify, Enbridge, Imperial Oil, Meta, Google, Amazon, and Apple. Canada reports May GDP numbers on Friday as well. Shopify earnings report will be massive as Canada's largest company, but my eye is on Canadian resources like Imperial Oil, Enbridge, Kinross Gold, Lundin Mining, Teck Resources, and Crescent Point Energy Corp as it will show the base of Canada's economy and (probably) continued massively low unemployment.

We discuss inflation in Canada and what it means to the average Canadian. Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers in Canada were released today showing inflation in Canada is 8.1% in June 2022. I have two methods to reduce inflation, and then I briefly discuss Tesla and Bitcoin.

I take on three topics today. I discuss Canadian real estate volatility, with prices dropping as mortgage rates increase; I discuss the start of Q2 earnings in the stock market which might indicate a recession (or not); and for my positive discussion of the day I am happy that "safety ETF's" are starting to be promoted less on Google and YouTube. I have my first guest co-host on today, Jenny, who helps to keep me honest asking questions so I don't ramble on.

In an unexpected move the Bank of Canada raises interest rates 1% following the Americans releasing their Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, showing increased inflation (again) of 9.1% I struggle my way through this podcast trying to find some positives in the middle of this financial storm. While many people will have even more people paying the bills on the back of increased interest rates, there will be good opportunities for both real estate and stock market investors.

I discuss some good news, the Bank of America is investing in Canada! Then I get into the craziness. Americans report inflation numbers, CPI (consumer price index) on Wednesday and their Producer Price Index (PPI) numbers on Thursday. This is going to be a wild ride for stock market investors and I discuss why using one of my junior oil company's as an example.

Canada released unemployment numbers that are confusing. Record low unemployment (again) at 4.9%, but also Canada LOST 43,000 jobs and still has record unemployment. How is this possible? How about losing 100,000 people from the labor market. I also discuss oil vs bitcoin, Canadian Softwood lumber agreement, and price to earning P/E numbers.

Despite all the bad news, it's a great time to be an investor! Today I start the podcast off with this message, why be upset about buying share of company on sale? Enjoy it while it lasts. And apparently it will last for a while, because today I talk about the price of oil (and Canadian oil and gas stocks) starting to fall. Short term? Long term? No idea. But it brought the TSX down 1% today while Bitcoin went up 3% What is wrong with this? Also I give "props" to the Canadian press for publishing a brief article on the study done on historical inflation in Canada.

Two main topics today, the upcoming week which will probably get dragged down further due to fear from the crypto crash; and, should I invest in lumber stocks? Canfor, Western Forest Products, Acadia, etc... but mostly I discuss West Fraser Mills Ltd and their $98 share price. Will fuel cost already high and the price of lumber already low, is this the last good quarter for lumber? Should I sell any lumber stocks? Let's talk Canada, because Canadian Money Matters.
