I’d rather tell you about what I have

not what I don’t

on every first date

the butterflies - how they race

but if time would wait for me

if crimes would let me be

and when a family of three

climbs high above the trees

what then my Love

what then

what then

what then

always in groups of three

standing and sitting

are the same to me

let me not be on show

let tomorrow be as it is

I know of nightmares

stuffed somewhere in ancient memory

but Love - sweet Love

she started with artists

not long after we met

couples come in twos and threes

what what

why wait for eternity…

it’s time to move

when you beg for your food

when it rains everyday

and turns to ice every night

and the sun came out to play

but he wouldn’t stay

the hell can i say

to get thru this day

without feelin’ broken n’ empty

the highways crisscross

for everyone who are headin’ somewhere

what if he ain’t [headin’ nowhere]

but still he’s out there

out on the interstate

drivin’ straight

from state to state

gettin’ up early

stayin’ up late

follows the red river

from san diego to boston

not realizing what it cost him

how many times he had to

learn where the bread aisle’s at

publix and kroger

and von’s

and stop n’ shop

and qt and aldi

you feel me

how many first times

in the check-out lines

how many first nights in a new place

how many wakin’ up’s with yer familiar face

how many late night first dates

playin’ patty cake

with a new checkmate

closin’ in on me

knights and rooks and royals surround me

black n’ white-board a strategy

[to destroy me]

fuel up their ships

for chasin’ me high speed

across the sea…

All my life, I worshipped her

Her golden voice, her beauty's beat

How she made us feel

How she made me real

And the ground beneath her feet

And the ground beneath her feet

And now I can't be sure of anything

Black is white, and cold is heat

For what I worshipped stole my love away

It was the ground beneath her feet

It was the ground beneath her feet

Go lightly down your darkened way

Go lightly underground

I'll be down there in another day

I won't rest until you're found

Let me love you, let me rescue you

Let me bring you where two roads meet

Oh, come back above

Where there is only love

Only love

My oh my, my oh my

My oh my, my oh my

My oh my, my oh my

My oh my, my oh my

My oh my, my oh my

Let me love you true, let me rescue you

Let me bring you to where two roads meet

Let me love you true, let me rescue you

Let me bring you to where two roads meet

My oh my, my oh my

My oh my, my oh my

My oh my, my oh my

Here is a powerful message about humility - one of the hardest (and most important) lessons of my own recovery, thus far. This song is by The Lumineers and is on their newest album, "Brightside," which will be released in January 2022. This is a snippet of a live-streamed show The Lumineers played in Santa Barbara on September 22. When I heard this the other night, my eyes welled up with tears - not sure why - but something deep down was being acknowledged, Loved and healed.

*It was pride that changed angels into devils;

it is humility that makes humans as angels.

-Saint Augustine (edited)*
