The Inclusion 1st Podcast

The Inclusion 1st Podcast is creating a safe space for people to ask their most important questions on antiracism. Our mission is to demystify the practice of antiracism through the experience of questions and stories which we hope will encourage antiracist learning, growth, and action. We believe that it is the actions of individuals that help to push this movement forward. And to support these changemakers on their journey, we’ll answer listener-submitted questions in each episode. Tune in every Tuesday and Thursday as we bring you answers from real people who are practicing antiracism in their everyday lives.

In this episode, we are answering the listener-submitted questions: As a white person, how can I speak up for BIPOC’s in spaces that are almost entirely white and the BIPOC’s don’t always feel safe speaking up? My company employs almost no black people and there are none in my department. I have asked HR to seek out BIPOC as job candidates, but I’m afraid that doesn’t do enough to support those who are already here. I don’t want to ask the BIPOC to do all the work to advocate for themselves and I want to show support, but I’m not sure what is helpful and what might be overstepping. In this episode, we are answering the listener-submitted questions: 1. When is it safe to bring racism up? As a white male, I feel like I can't know what it's like and feel like I don't have the right to say anything, but I want to be an ally and supporter. 2. I am a white woman working in a DNI adjacent space. Lately, I've noticed I'm more inhibited in my conversation because I don't want to inadvertently say something offensive. How can I, on a Zoom call with multiple individuals, ask for input if they see areas where I can improve?
