- What might we infer about the relationship between Abraham's tribe and the Hittites by how they respond to Abraham's request for a cave to bury Sarah? How is this an outworking of the Genesis 12 blessing?
- Genesis 24 is the longest chapter in the Torah. Why might the author include so much repetition and detail?
- Do a quick character study on the following:
- The servant
- Rebekah
- Bethuel, Laban, mother
- How do we see the providence of God at work in chapter 24? How does this account help you see the providence of God at work in your life?
- The first part of chapter 25 marks the end of another section of Genesis. What are some major themes and motifs you have seen in Genesis so far?
- How have you seen the experience of every Christian reflected in the stories we've read so far in Genesis?

- Genesis 20 is a repeat event. Compare and contrast the first time Abraham gives his wife away in Genesis 12:10-20 and this similar event in Genesis 20. What similarities and differences do you note?
- What do you make of Sarah's words in 21:6 given that the same word is used a few verses later to imply mockery?
- How do we see God's protection and provision for Hagar and Ishmael once again?
- What do you make of God's request to Abraham to sacrifice his son? What are some of the challenges you might find with this story?

Discussion Questions:
- Chapter 16 is a low point in the life of Abram and Sarai. Where do we see the grace of God in the midst of such broken relationships?
- Chapter 17 introduces the sign of circumcision in to the covenant between God and His people. Looking at Deuteronomy 10:15-16 and Romans 2:28-29, to what is circumcision meant to point towards?
- In chapter 18 we see Abraham have spent a lot of time meeting with God in various settings. First over a meal at Abraham's tent and then next on a hill top over looking Sodom and Gomorrah. How do you see the character of God in each scene contrasted with the character of Abraham and Sarai?
- What similarities do you see between the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and the story of Noah and the Flood?
- How do we see God's grace in the midst of His judgement in chapter 19?
- Chapter 19 does not end in a hopeful way. How does this passage warn us against the corrupting influence of sin? What might have been a more Godly approach to their seemingly hopeless situation? How might we do something similar by trying to solve or fix our unwanted life circumstances ourselves?
Discussion Questions:
- How do we see God's mission to the world made explicit in His words to Abram in 12:1-3? How might this passage impact your reading of the rest of the Bible?
- Based on what you've read so far in Genesis, how might you describe what it means to be blessed by God?
- How do you see echoes of the Genesis 3 in the incident with Abram, Sarai and Pharaoh in Genesis 12:10-20?
- In chapter 13 we see Lot and Abram separate. In chapter 14 we see the consequences of their decisions. What wisdom do these chapters offer us for how we make decisions in our lives and how we determine what is good and what is bad?
- Read Hebrews 7. How does this passage in the New Testament shed light on the scene with Melchizedek in our passage in Genesis?
- How do we see belief mingled with doubt in Abram's relationship with God in Genesis 12-15? Now look at Hebrews 11:8-16. How might we reconcile Genesis' unflattering portrayal with Hebrews spotless description of Abraham's faith?
- Looking at the covenant God makes with Abram in chapter 15, how did Abram participate? How did God participate? How does Jeremiah 34:18-20 help us understand what agreement God is making with this family?

- The story of Noah and the flood are familiar stories to many. What details or aspects of the story stood out to you in your reading and study? Anything that you hadn't noticed before?
- Sin has full taken hold of the hearts of humanity at this point in the story. How does Noah seem to escape the corruption that everyone else seems to have fallen into? Why might God look with favour upon him?
- Where do we see the mercy of God in these chapters? Where do we see the justice of God in these chapters? How do these two pillars of God's character always go together?
- How might God's covenant with Noah give us hope about planet Earth today and the future?

Do you feel lonely and unseen, tired and alone? This talk tells the story of someone who gave everything, yet was betrayed, rejected, and left to suffer alone. But it’s not just his story. It’s ours too. What if your loneliness is a clue that you were made for something more? This is about the kind of love that stays when everyone else walks away, the kind that sees you at your worst and still doesn’t leave.
Why do we strive so hard for the world’s honour? It is something we deeply crave and pursue. In this sermon, we see that chasing worldly honour can lead to shame, as it did for Saul. But we are also shown where true honour is found, an honour that shame cannot take away, but can only bring to completion.
In a world where relationships often feel transactional and self-serving, the story of Jonathan and David in 1 Samuel 20 points us to covenant love – a deeper, truer kind of love. As a reoccurring character throughout the Bible, and one of the three persons of the Godhead (the Holy Trinity), we see that the Spirit is in very nature God, and though he is seperate in personhood, he is One with the Father and the Son, and shares their Goodness and Love with us. In the final episode of our "unconventional wisdom" series on Jesus's 'Sermon on the Mount', after seeing the radical beauty of God's Kingdom, pastor Matt takes us through Matthew 7:21-29 and challenges us to inquire if we are indeed a part of this kingdom. We also learn that the phrase 'this too shall pass' only applies to Christians---as we know that all the struggles, sin, and pain, of our lives was taken on by Christ and will not be with us forever. It is only if we build our life on Christ's foundation, “the rock,” rather than the “sand” in which the world tells us we should build our life on, that our “house” will weather the storm of life.
Jesus says 'narrow is the way that leads to life'. That confounds our modern sensibilities which assumes that more, bigger, wide,... is better. Ralph dug deep to show us the wisdom in the way, the right way that leads to life; a wisdom that is much needed especially for our age.
Boaz leads us through Matthew 7:1-12, where Jesus points out the reality that we all judge others and feel good about it, yet expect others not to judge us. Jesus shows us that in reality, He is the one who in his perfection has every right to judge us, yet gives us unlimited grace despite our sin and dies for us instead. Therefore rather than pointing out other people's sins, Boaz discusses how we should examine our own shortcomings and come to God with them. When we see our own shortcomings, we can realise our need for Christ and his grace, which changes our heart and helps us to reflect Christ's love towards others rather than judge them (which is a way of trying to be God ourselves).
In spite of more stuff, more money, more information, more food options, we are increasingly becoming more and more worried as a people. Will having more control cure our worry? Eric shows through God's word and what really lies at the root of our worry and leads us to what can really cure that worry.
That we can reach out to the ultimately powerful God and call Him father, is the most stunning thing ever. In this sermon, Ralph shows us how to pray and what it means to speak to a God who is close to us and wants us to draw close to Him.

Through 1 Samuel 7:2-17, Eric explains to us what repentance really means. In this passage, the Israelites successfully defeating the Philistines in battle, only after having turned back towards God and repenting of their error. Eric points out that there are several key steps to repentance in this passage that are relevant to us and our relationship with God today: Instead of merely turning from sin (step one), we must actively turn towards God (step two), and then remind ourselves of our repentance (step three).

Matt unpacks the writings of "Qoheleth" in Ecclesiastes 5 and 6, which reveals that humans are vulnerable in three key ways: fear of God, fear of the betrayal of others, and fear of our emotions betraying us.
