the hoodfairy podcast: Recent Episodes

hoodfairy & co.

Past generations have harnessed the gifts of our Earth, creating the magical power to heal. Today, this knowledge is not so common, after a deliberate movement to strip it away. The outcome has us stuck in an industry standard that our bodies suffer from.

But give thanks to the hood.

It’s said that nothing good & valuable can come from the hood or its people. However, the resilience, perseverance & ability to make so much out of nothing is the same magic from generations past. So as a hoodfairy, I'm sharing how we can reclaim that power while reframing a false narrative to heal our bodies.

hey family, 👋🏽 so, in the 1st #hoodfairytale I was in sacramento, ca and had a moment of clarity. I came to a decision that in my work, i have to do more to change the built environment to make health equity more available but also approach my work in a different way to really make impact in people’s lives; especially black people. this keynote was a first big step to do that. because of the success that my team and i have teaching healthy eating and active living to communities members throughout LA County, i was invited to speak at a gathering in pomona, ca of health educators from the LA department of public health. i used storytelling to the paint the picture of what the day to day lives looks like for the community members we’ve committed to serve. we have to change our mindsets and approaches. the segment is longer than i want it to be but i think it really gets the point across. thanks for listening! ✨stay magical. ✨

hey everyone! 👋🏽

So i, like most urban women of color, live in a food desert. i was asked to speak about how to navigate beyond the pitfalls in our communities to create health for our families at a gathering hosted by #BlackWomenForWellness.

i decided that it may be easier to show them rather than tell them. here's the audio of what I presented to them. let's take a long health walk around my way and see what we find.

listen in and feel free to come to instagram to let me know what you think and how you create healthy opportunities for you and yours.

Hey Everyone, 👋🏽

So in the last 8 years, I've been able to help people change to healthier lifestyles. I really love my work in nutrition education, sharing the basics of gardening, showing the power of herbs and oils and so much more. It's all a part of how I became a #hoodfairy.

There's one problem though...I wish I could get this life lengthening information to more of "my people." The statistics say that we are suffering the most and I just want to do my part in changing the health and life outcomes of the families that look like mine.

I had an epiphany of what more I can do when I was in Sacramento for work and thought I'd share a little of the plan. 😉👌🏾 Listen in, share and if you want to be a part of the movement, lets chat!

Thanks for listening!

I wanted to kick off this podcast right by letting the world know what hoodfairy & co. is about. I'm excited but nervous at the same time about building this...an...MY urban apothecary and personal brand.

hoodfairy emerged out of me embracing & learning about what the earth provides us. Knowing how to use these gifts is not always common knowledge. That's why I really enjoy learning and teaching others what I can; from food to medicines, to creating closed loop cycles, healing and things like that.

Through this podcast I plan to make all of the knowledge Im learning along my journey accessible to our people because most of us are stuck within the industry standard and suffering from it.

In the hood, it's assumed nothing good can come, especially from Black women. However, we are always making something out of nothing, and are really good at it. So as a debut, I figured this intro was the perfect way to share this magical journey. I hope to have you join me! ✨✨🧚🏽‍♀️
