This week on the Wonderspace Podcast we ask our six questions to Dr Danbee Kim. A Korean-American neuroscientist and performance artist. They use music, theatre games, robotics and graphic novels to teach neuroscience to humans of all ages. Danbee’s PhD in Neuroscience developed a framework for bringing research out of the lab and into daily life. This has led to work alongside people like Sarah Corbett from the Craftivist Collective who was one of the first guests on Wonderspace.

This week on Wonderspace we ask our six questions to Heather Mak who is a Toronto-based sustainability advisor and the co-founder of Diversity in Sustainability. DIS is a network dedicated to equipping current and future Black, Indigenous and People of Colour sustainability leaders with the skills, networks and resources to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and just world. Heather was nominated by a previous guest on Wonderspace Lorraine B Smith who you can hear on Ep109.

This week on the Wonderspace Podcast we head to Brooklyn and ask our six questions to Caledonia Curry also known as Swoon. Callie is a contemporary artist and filmmaker who became widely known as the first woman to gain large-scale recognition in the male-dominated world of street art. Her work can be frequently seen in streets worldwide and has also been showcased in renowned art institutions.
Callie is also the founder of the Heliotrope Foundation which helps communities respond and heal after natural disasters and other urgent social crisis. They believe that the creative process can and should be part of how we heal, rebuild, and move forward.
“As an artist, I'm somebody who loves to look at a situation and go, ‘really, are you sure’? And then start digging into it and being like, how can this be more just or more fun or more ridiculous or more beautiful or more cooperative? I often find a way to use creativity to go into a situation like that and like turn the soil and see what's needed”.

This week on the Wonderspace Podcast we ask our six questions to Jacqueline Lim. A strategist and certified coach focused on advancing equity and a regenerative future for all. Jacq is currently an Associate with the Finance Innovation Lab and has recently worked with clients such as Natwest Bank, Partners for a New Economy and A Blueprint for Better Business.
"I found myself in 2019 really immersed in so many questions about self and about my work. Questions like, 'What really is a systems change?' 'How do systems actually change?' And crucially, ‘What's mine to do in systems change?' I've gathered so many answers since that time, one of the answers being systems change is actually deeply personal. It's not just about the outward change."

He is also the Founder and President of the Possibility Studies Network which brings together academics, researchers and practitioners dedicated to the study of human possibility. Topics include creativity, imagination, innovation and of course wonder which is the title of one of Vlad’s books.

This week on the Wonderspace Podcast, we ask our six questions to Jacky Youldon, the Founder and Director of RunningSpace, whose mission is to champion life and combat suicide, one step at a time. Jacky struggled with suicidal thoughts following a lifetime of self-harm and eventually attempted to take her own life. From this experience, RunningSpace was born, and in 2019, Jacky was awarded the BBC Unsung Sporting Hero award for her life-saving running groups.
"A friend said to me, 'When you run, you're the pioneer of the prevention of suicide.' I thought that was ridiculous, and I cried and asked what I should do about that. 'Just start running,' she said, 'and people will follow you.’”

I'm just back from the first leg in Africa which was a five week journey that included 1600 miles of cycling through extreme 45 degrees heat and some hostility but I made it to the end."

This week's Wonderspace comes from a conference in Madrid where last week over 220 people came together around the issue of statelessness organised by the European Network on Statelessness in collaboration with Fundación Cepaim.
Statelessness is an issue that impacts over half a million people in Europe and many millions globally which you can hear more about in our 100th Wonderspace episode with the amazing Christiana Bukalo from Statefree.
Someone described this issue of statelessness as the 'phenomenon of invisibility' and so being at this conference was for us at Wonderspace about keeping the issue visible by signposting to people, organisations and networks who are leading the way in this complex issue. We did this in Madrid by capturing short stories of hopefulness from 24 amazing people and organisations working in the stateless arena.

Today we reach the milestone of 100 Wonderspace Podcast episodes. Over the past two and a half years we have welcomed guests from over 50 cities around the world who have all shared their wonders and stories of hopefulness.
We have decided to use our 100th episode to amplify the issue of STATELESSNESS which impacts over five hundred thousand people in Europe and over fifteen million worldwide.
To bring the issue alive, we asked our six Wonderspace questions to an extraordinary and inspiring woman called Chistiana Bukalo from Germany who founded Statefree and is herself stateless. We also feature Chris Nash who is the Director of The European Network on Statelessness.

Iva is the founder and CEO of Humans in the loop, a social enterprise which supplies diverse and high-quality human input for AI systems. They have provided remote digital jobs and training to more than 1,000 refugees and conflict-affected people in countries around the world.
“We're working with AI systems in order to monitor, supervise and audit them and see how they're performing. It would be amazing if we can become the leaders in this type of work, and that's why we're called humans in the loop because this is our model and vision for the future”.

Orbiting with us this week on Wonderspace is Marine Scientist Sheena Talma from the Seychelles. Sheena is the science program manager at the Nekton Foundation which is focussed on accelerating scientific exploration and protection of the ocean. Their aim is to highly protect at least 30 per cent of the ocean by 2030. Sheena also works with the Save Our Seas Foundation which has funded over 400 marine projects in over 80 countries around the world.

On Wonderspace this week we welcome Joshua Coombes. Josh is a hairdresser who, in 2015, took to the streets of London on his days off and gave haircuts to people who were experiencing homelessness. He started posting images of the people he met on social media and a global movement was born.
Josh is the founder of Do Something For Nothing, a grassroots movement that focuses on how we can all use our skills and time to help those around us. His book, Do Something For Nothing also captures life stories from people on the streets around the world.

On the Wonderspace podcast this week we welcome Marwa al-Sabouni. Marwa is an award-winning architect and author who has chosen to remain with her family in war torn Homs in Syria. Her 2016 book 'The Battle For Home' gained her invitations to speak around the world and led to a TED talk where Marwa suggests that Syria's architecture was one of the key causes of war by dividing its once tolerant and multicultural society into single identity enclaves defined by class and religion. In her latest book 'Building For Hope' Marwa explores how cities and buildings might be rebuilt in the aftermath of conflict, crisis or financial depression.
Marwa is another inspiring spark of hope and re-imagination living in Syria and we were so honoured to orbit with her.

Orbiting with us this week on Wonderspace is artist, designer and the current principal of Art Academy in London, Rob Pepper.
In 2003 Rob joined a small community of artists who wanted to challenge the way art education was being taught. Since then Rob has helped develop the Art Academy which today has over 3,500 students and 100 artists regularly employed. As an artist, Rob has had solo exhibitions in cities around the world and most recently has exhibited in Shanghai.
In his story of hopefulness, Rob talks about a band who are inspiring the entertainment world to consider their environmental footprint.

Mini is the first and only professional surfer representing Mozambique on the world stage and is also the Programs Director for an amazing organisation called Surfers Not Street Children who work in Mozambique and in South Africa. Their model fuses surfing, mentorship and care with dedicated local teams that include social workers, carers, lifeguards and surf coaches. This model has led to the transformation of hundreds of lives with a few like Mini who have become pro surfers.

For the first orbit of our new Wonderspace year, we welcome Giles Duley. Giles is a documentary photographer and writer. His work focuses on the long-term humanitarian impact of conflict.
In 2011, whilst working in Afghanistan, Giles was severely injured by an IED and as a result of his injuries, he is a triple-amputee. As you will hear in this episode, he returned to Afghanistan the following year to continue his work as a photographer. This episode was recorded a few days after his latest trip to Afghanistan, a few days before Kabul fell to the Taliban.
Duley is also CEO and Founder of the NGO Legacy of War Foundation and is a campaigner for the rights of both refugees and those living with disabilities caused by conflict.

Orbiting with us this week on Wonderspace is actress, producer, entrepreneur and campaigner Ruth Rogers. Ruth is the founder of the Canvas Cafe just off Brick Lane in East London which is a basecamp for change through their amazing Vegan Cafe and Event Space.
During Lockdown Canvas cooked over 15,000 meals for vulnerable residents, the homeless and children at risk of hunger. This was all done in partnership with two advertising agencies and two world famous artists who are all neighbours. Ruth’s story of hopefulness is also inspirational and important.

Sarah is the co-founder of Elizabeths Legacy of Hope which provides life changing support for children who have lost their limbs through war, accidents, and lack of access to medical care in India, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
In 2016 Sarah persuaded the UK Chancellor to announce a 1.5 million budget item for children's running limbs and in the same year the Mayor of London launched the Sarah Hope line, a helpline for victims of accidents in London’s transport network.
Sarah was recently recognised in the Queens honours list.
