Hello everyone - welcome to the 7th conversation of Conversations with Harriet.
This episode is part of the new Relax and Learn series.
The mission of this series is to help you feel relaxed, whilst you absorb educational and hopefully interesting information.
Part II of this series really nicely wraps up the history of hypnosis together. This is when most of the most influential research of hypnosis was carried out. I also discuss state theory vs nonstate theory.

Hello everyone - welcome to the 6th conversation of Conversations with Harriet.
This episode is a little bit different.
It is the first episode in the relax and learn series. I am a cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist, and the foundation of my practice is relaxation - so... I thought it would be cool to do an educational yet relaxing style episode.
The history of hypnosis and hypnotherapy is wild. It's very complex and there's a lot of different theories. Which makes sense to why in today's world there is a skewed idea of what hypnosis actually is.
I start with the earliest mention of hypnosis, and provide a brief run down up until the 20th century - so there will be a part II if you want to hear the history beyond the 1900's.
Find a comfortable spot, absorb and enjoy.

Welcome to the fifth episode of conversations with Harriet. In this episode we have a conversation about perfectionism. We discuss why it can be destructive to your mental wellbeing and other areas of your life, and how to move away from it.
Perfectionism is a problem because it doesn't exist.1) There is not one set agreed highest standard
2) Mistakes/failures are part of life
and so.. aiming for something that is completely unattainable will only set you up to fail AND make you miserable.
Here's how to fix that:1) Truly accept the truth about perfectionism. Remember, perfectionism isn't the same as having high standards.
2) Let 70% be the new perfect - aka give yourself space to fail, and be cool with that.
3) Appreciate that mistakes and failures are your ticket to growth. Trust me.
4) Practice gratitude and celebrate the small wins.

Welcome to the fourth episode of conversations with Harriet. In this episode we dive into rejections - and how to handle rejections like an absolute pro.
This episode is for anyone who struggles with rejection and "rejection is redirection" is just not cutting it.
Four different types of rejection is discussed:
1) The ghosting - aka being flat out ignored
2) The big sting - aka being flat out told no
3) The gift wrapped rejection - a rejection that is handed to us nicely with some fluff and compliments
4) The constructive rejection - a rejection that is handed to us with constructive criticism
Rejection is a byproduct of putting yourself out there, whether that's professionally or personally, and rejection can feel super painful which can prevent us from fully putting ourselves out to the world.
This episode will give you a perspective shift and a practical manual to come back to if you struggle with rejection, and will put you back in a place where you feel confident and empowered.

Welcome to the third episode of conversations with Harriet! In this episode we dive into why and how to stop caring about the opinions of others.
This is a struggle I see people face all the time. We strive to be liked and accepted by others and to a point, that's okay. But when we start to get negatively impacted by the opinions of others, we need to step up and take action.
I dive into this topic from two angles:
1) The anticipation stage - this is where we anticipate other people will think badly of us.
2) The response stage - this is where people have given us their opinion and I talk about how to respond, reframe and prevent.
Time stamps:3:07 - Introduction to the anticipation stage
5:38 - Understanding what other people's opinions are made of
7:55 - Highlighting what you are missing out on as a result of placing value on other people's opinions
9:06 - Give people the benefit of the doubt
10:43 - Exploring what we can do when people do give us their opinion
11:20 - Circling back to understanding what an opinion is
11:58 - Communicate to others how you want to be treated
14:21 - Reframe your beliefs about uncomfortable opinions Where to find me:Instagram: @harrieteotherapy

Welcome to the second episode of conversations with Harriet. In this episode we unpack a pretty big and unique concept: the idea of becoming our own role - yes, you read that right! Being our own role model.
We live in a world where "change yourself" is one of the most prevalent messages. Whether the message is to change your body, change your job or change your mind - the list goes on, and the message is everywhere. Unpacking and exploring the idea that we actually do not need to change ourselves or be someone else for me was incredibly refreshing and freeing. I hope you feel the same.
The quote by Adriene Mishler (Yoga By Adriene) referenced in the episode:“..we are not actually ever working towards the goal of becoming someone or something that we are not already. We are already that thing. That which we desire, we already possess. We are not trying to step out and change, conform, or embody someone else’s idea or concept of who we should be.”
I would love to hear your thoughts on this quote, and the concept of being your own role model. You can message me on instagram or email me at hello@heotherapy.com. This episode will be available on YouTube as well so you can leave your comments there too.
