Quality education for all segments of society is a monumentally important issue. Many people would say it is the most pressing and critical social rights issue of our time. We sift through key issues of educational equity, access, and opportunity, adding our perspectives and hoping to advance conversations. Offering different perspectives and generating dialogue on the issues can lead to positive, constructive change.
We welcome our first guest, Beth Goddett Ed. D, J.D., who is long time educator from K-12 and university. Currently she has a keen eye on issues around equity and trauma. We delve into several issues around education from Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka to the return of students to schools in Philadelphia this year. We open with a brief look at violence in Philadelphia and the traumas and mindsets and lack of opportunities that have led to cycles of violence. We wrap up our 1 hr (or so) of discourse with evaluating the meaning of equity in schools and how education can change for the better to address the needs of so many communities.
Michael and Vernon seek further examination into the impacts of COVID on education. They seek go deeper with the exploration of the impacts and opportunities presented for the institution of education, educators, families and most importantly students.
