In 1950, Enrico Fermi conducted a thought experiment where he estimated the number of habitable planets in our galaxy and concluded that the galaxy should be teaming with life. However, no sign of life had been observed despite our search for it. This became known as the Fermi Paradox. The only historical reference to the lost continent of Atlantis is found in the final dialogs written by the Greek philosopher Plato. In the first of three intended dialogs, Timaeus lays out creation of the universe and establishes the foundations of government detailed in Plato's early work: Republic. The second dialog, Critias, discusses a possible historical account of the distant nation of Atlantis including some description of its might and of its destruction. The end of Critias has been lost to time and the third dialog, Hermocrates, was likely never completed due to Plato's death. Is there enough descriptions of this lost kingdom to find clues in the ancient world and discover its final location or was Atlantis a fabricated element to serve a purpose in Plato's dialogs?

In 2006, a UFO was seen over gate C17 at O'Hare International Airport. The event was witnessed by ground crew, pilots, passengers and individuals on the adjacent access roads. When it abruptly left, it punched a hole in the cloud cover, leaving the witnesses stunned. While some photographs and video footage has surfaced, none has been verified to our knowledge. In 1984 a package containing a roll of 35 millimeter film arrived at the home of Jamie Shandera, a filmmaker researching UFO sightings. The film contained images of what appeared to be official government documents detailing the creation of a secret government program tasked with managing alien contact, crashed alien craft, and research into the UFO phenomenon. The files caused a public outcry for answers, an investigation by the FBI and Airforce, and produced a split in the UFO community as to the validity of the documents and the story they told.

Considered one of the most credible UFO sightings of the 20th century, the Mansfield UFO incident of 1973 involved a near collision of a military helicopter and an unknown craft. The incident experienced by the crew of the helicopter was also witnessed by individuals on the ground. The four crew members on the helicopter would report the incident both to their commanders in a flight incident report and to the news media. Captain Coyne, the commander of the crew would be invited to share his encounter on the world stage at the United Nations.

In 1900, the the newly Flannan isle lighthouse was staffed by three lightkeepers. In December of that year a passing ship noticed the light was out at the light house and shortly after reporting the issue, a supply ship was sent to investigate. When they approached the island, everything was quiet with no sign of life. The mystery would only grow once they landed on the island and entered the lighthouse.

Corporal Valdes gathered his men and readied them for combat as the UFO drew closer. Suddenly, the UFO stopped and moments later Valdes would disappear while his men frantically searched for him. In October of 1978, Frederick Valentich took off from Moorabbin Airport on a round trip flight in a single engine Cessna to Kings Island. Not long after he turn to start flying over the ocean he contacted Melbourne Air Traffic control and began an unusual series of observations, describing what seemed to be a UFO. Communications ended abruptly, initiating a search and rescue operation but to no avail. Frederick would go down in history as another possible encounter with a UFO which ended in tragedy.

They once existed, enormous birds of prey which dwarfed any known flying species living today. Teratorns, lived as recently as 12,000 years ago in the Americas. These large birds may have been the basis for the Native American legends of Thunderbirds. Large birds that meet the criteria of those supposed mythical beast have been seen from Alaska to Argentinian in modern times. The UFO sighting that coined the phrase "Flying Saucers" and kicked off the modern UFO phenomenon is more than just one man's tale of an incredible event. The craft seen by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 preceded the Roswell crash by only a few weeks, but he wasn't alone when he observed those strange objects in the sky as we discovered when researching this case. Kenneth was an above average observer, taking time to clock the speed, size, shape, and flight characteristics of the unknown crafts. At the end of the day, we are left with a credible sighting and plenty of detail which was corroborated by many other pilots as well as witnesses on the ground. Learn why the Air Force and FBI considered the validity of this account so significant that it launched the government program which would eventually become Project Blue Book.

The tape recorder was hidden in a drawer of a desk before the two men were left alone in the interrogation room of the Pascagoula police station. When the officers played back the recording, the men's story only became more compelling. Located in the Nazca Desert of southern Peru, incredible images were etched into the landscape over 2000 years ago. Rediscovered in the late 1930s, these amazing artworks provided researchers a puzzle. Why were such large and elaborate earthworks viewable only from an airplane or hot air balloon carved into the desert floor well before such technology existed? Was it a massive irrigation project, a religious or cultural practice, or was it something from the stars?

George walked into the desert to meet the alien, as if drawn there by some unknown force. It would be the start of series of alien communications that would include a trip into outer space, a conversion with royalty, and a secret meeting with the pope.

In 1959, an Anglican missionary and 37 staff and parishioners witnessed a UFO sighting which took place over three evenings and lasting several hours. In that time, the witnesses interacted with beings walking on the exterior of the craft using hand gestures and a flashlight. A detailed account was taken including times, locations, distances, and drawings of the craft by various witnesses. This event was deemed one of the most compelling cases investigated by J. Nestled between the Kenneth Arnold UFO sightings, which coined the term "Flying Saucer", and the Roswell Crash one can find two photographs captured by William Rhodes of the "saucers" so many had witnessed in the weeks between the two major UFO events. The government's response to William Rhodes spanned Projects Sign, Grudge, and Bluebook. It also is a perfect example of how the government treated UFO cases during each of them. The the photographic negatives Rhodes took would disappear behind the wall of government bureaucracy. Both the Air Force and FBI would attempt to discredit him without success and at every turn, the evidence supported the singular fact that two photographs were captured of a craft which remains unidentified to this day.

On November 17, 1986 a Japanese Boeing 747-200F flight from Reykjavik to Anchorage encountered multiple UFOs. The event lasted 50 minutes, included radar data from multiple locations and was witnessed by the three crewmembers of the aircraft. Subsequent analysis was ultimately inconclusive, with explanations like planets and stars on the horizon and ground lights reflected off of ice crystals all but disproven. While radar data supports the possibility of unknown craft operating near flight 1628, additional visual collaboration could not be ascertained. Triangular UFOs navigated the skies over Belgium from November 1989 to April 1990. The first sighting included nearly a dozen police officers and over 100 civilians. On April 24, 1964 at 5:50 p.m., Lonnie Zamora encountered a UFO sighting involving unknow entities and trace evidence. Several explanations have been suggested including a hoax perpetuated by students of New Mexico Tech, ball lightning, and a mirage of the star Canopus. Regardless, Project Bluebook's casefile listed this incident as unexplained. Additionally, J. Allen Hynek noted this encounter as one of the more interesting ones and it remains an open case of an unidentified object to this day. In 2004 the Nimitz Carrier Group was conducting pre-deployment exercises off the west coast. Over the course of several weeks, multiple systems tracked UFOs and several encounters with the flight crew including a brief chase makes this UFO event the most convincing to date.
