Follow us along in our journey as we purchase, manage, and ultimately renovate a 10-unit 100-year-old hotel. Along the way, we will share the stories of what we have run into. We will share the tools that we use to make our lives a little easier in managing this hotel. We will also share the things we are doing as we seek to renovate and improve the building so that it will make it the next 100 years.
We are in the process of making major decisions about how to approach our remodel of our 100 year old hotel- In this episode we discuss different ways we can approach it, how to approach it successfully together, obstacles that we've encountered and tips we are applying from our Interior Design Course (Aubrey @autumnroseinteriors). With Fall coming, we also talked about pricing strategy changes. We use a software called Pricelabs to help our pricing stay accurate to the current market. And lastly we explored a new product/furniture solution called @minoanexperience. We will let you know what direction we go next episode so... stay tuned. :)
Althought we sit at a 4.7 star review, a few of the reviews we have received over the past few months were less than favorable. Today we go through a few of those together and pull out the truths behind them.
Follow along on our reviews here.
We both grew up from families who love and value DIY, so growing our management skills was and is something we are still working on. This episode dives into the value of hiring the right person, collaborating, and appreciating leadership skills as much as DIY. Also... how we smoothed over a precarious situation when a piece of our headboard decided to wake one of our guests up with a bloody nose...

Greg had the opportunity to take a vacation so he also got to give me a day of vacation :) Now that he knows what I do he realizes that I do in fact work. The phone still rings when we are on vacation, and when we are sick. What does a typical day consist of?

Update on our mini remodel (heating, cooling, and ventilation). Pushing through what you are not good at. Hiring where you are weak. Our learning (funny?) story for the week.
What are all of the tools that we use to manage our little hotel? We briefly cover channel managers (we use Owner Reservations). Pricing programs (we use Pricelabs), Locking systems (we use Dack), and Area Guide Books (again we use Dack) Hopefully some of this can be useful to you!
Setting up a business isn't really rocket science. In fact it's rather simple. Especially with the internet at your fingertips. However, mistakes will still be made. Listen in on some of our shortcomings.
We are normal (at least thats what we tell ourselves). We just purchased and are now running a 100 year old short term rental- so many people are asking us how things are going that we decided that we would just tell everyone.
In this episode we cover how we were able to finance this property and what that process has looked like.
