This is my pure response to my latest conversation with Gregg Clunis. So many of you have asked for my personal thoughts, so here it is. I was so nervous at first. But when I stopped worrying and sat myself behind my microphone, this is what came from me. This is me straight talking from my heart. No notes. No conclusion ready. Just me.

So, thank you to all of those that have asked for this and for pushing me outside of my comfort zone.

From an immigrant to an entrepreneur with over a million downloads on his podcast, Gregg Clunis knows about sacrifice and perseverance. After getting accepted into college, subconsciously, he made it his mission to repay his parents and prove to them that their hard work was worth it. His life was soon defined by what he produced, tying his value to his productive output. We stop and read over this sentence as if we aren’t doing it ourselves. Because if we took a moment. To ask ourselves what we value ourselves on, what would the answer look like?

Gregg uses his journey through success to bring insight to the world, guiding us through common beliefs we have surrounding happiness, success, and quitting.

How would your life shift if you saw success as something you go through, not something you reach?

Take a listen.

“Why does it matter to me? Because I was told it should matter to me.” A defining moment in Gregg's life when he realized he had been told what to value. His voice was a collection of others. So where was his?

Podcast host of Tiny Leaps Big Changes, entrepreneur, and author, Gregg Clunis, harnesses his inner voice to direct his life. He dives into the running question of, “What do I want?” with a strong stance. Because with a knowing of oneself, the question becomes freeing instead of limiting.

We claim we make decisions for ourselves but we do not even know who we are. We are afraid to spend time with ourselves. But being able to hear your own thoughts and desires is insanely valuable. It is the defining moment of either life running you or you running life.

“Why am I working so hard?”

“What is it that I am trying to work towards?”

This is not some philosophical topic. In order to reach yourself, you need to spend purposeful isolation with yourself. And this isolation doesn’t mean by yourself, but means with yourself.

So stand with yourself and create the life that stands by your beliefs and values.

“If you are going to create a false future, why not create one that is successful?”

We want to be a movie director yet we don’t believe we will make it. We even go to the extend of finding reasons why we don’t make it. But if you are going to create a future, why not create one where you make it as the greatest director ever to have touched Netflix?

“What kind of life do you want to live?”

We don’t answer it. We skip the question. As if it holds no weight to us. As if we hold no weight to it. But this question changed the trajectory of Charity Youngblood’s life. It put her in the driver’s seat. It planted a seed of opportunity. The opportunity of choice. Now she can choose. Now she can say:

“I am the creator of my life.”

And she didn’t just understand it, she believed it.

Perfectionism is not the need to be perfect. It's the refusal to let yourself move ahead. Reread that.

We create this idea of perfect so that we don't have to move forward. Because if our resume was perfect, we'd have to submit it. If our art piece was perfect, we'd have to send it to market. We'd have to take the next step in our life.

We'd much rather blame our inability to act on perfectionism. Telling ourselves this narrative of "I'm setting a high standard" or "It has to be right." Rather than saying, "I'm afraid of the next step."

So, recognize in your life where you are waiting for something to be perfect. Recognize. And then let yourself move ahead. Take that next step.

Dana Shepple is the founder and owner of multiple businesses. As a child, she was sexually-abused and became a full-blown meth addict at 15. But she's never had the victim mentality. After high school, she worked as a Starbucks manager and when she was told her raise would be capped at 25 cents a year, she knew she had to make a change. She had been living her life for everyone else up until this point.

Dana teaches us to ask ourselves, "What do I want?" and to really sit with our answer. She also tells us to stop running. From ourselves. And why it is one of the most important practices to learn in life.

Moving back home. Getting a service job. What do these actions feel like a failure? Why do we accept these social norms as ones that we should live up to? Yet, we personally might not even believe them. So if we don’t believe that moving back home it a failure, why are we living our life like it is?

We’ve been trained away from trusting ourselves. We’ve been trained away from knowing what we want. Because we are not asked to.

But, we ultimately do know what we should be doing. If we allow ourselves to know. Know that you are your best input. Believe that you are the greatest navigating tool. And then live your life how you want. No more asking others for what they think we should be doing. And more of asking yourself.

Now, he is the host of a global travel television series called, "Air, Land, and Sea" and is the host and producer of the television show, "Uncovered in the Archives."

We ask others' opinions to avoid our responsibility.

We have others decide for us. Others choose for us. All to avoid. The fault is theirs if it goes wrong.

Think about the last time you asked someone for their opinion on what to wear.
Why did you really ask? What did you want them to say? Were you looking for consensus? What answer were you wanting to hear?

Notice how we give up responsibility. And relinquish it to somebody else.

So, next time you want someone's opinion, ask yourself. That's where the real opinion lies.

Special Edition Episode: Most people DO know what they want, they just don't allow themselves to know.

Many people are caught "looking good." They do not appear to be off course to anybody else. They have a great friendship circle and a great job. But they have constructed a false self that looks good to a world that meets them with approval.

What would happen if you really asked yourself why you applied to that job? What your motivators were for that job?

When thinking about our dream job, we usually get lost or misguided. "I like my job. It gives me money. I worked hard to get here. I don't need to change." Defensiveness comes up. Because what would happen if it didn't? What would happen if we really looked at our current situation? What feelings would come up? And if you skipped over these, what are you avoiding by not asking yourself these questions?

In Western culture, our occupations define who we are. (ex. "My name is Shayna. Nice to meet you! So, what do you do for work?") Yet, most of us have jobs that don't relate to what we truly want to do.  So, if your job doesn't define who you are, what does?

He is a ghostwriter for executives and entrepreneurs and also a contributor to Fortune Magazine, NBC, Fast Company, Entrepreneur.com, Motley Fool, USA Today, and Vanderbeat. He has a vast profile and brings his wisdom of carving a path in the media industry despite financial uncertainty.

In life, we are taught to chase happiness. We chase it through our next promotion or job opportunity- always fleeting. Let's come from a place of intrinsic happiness, realizing we are on the path to greatness. Realizing that all we have to do is get back up again after being knocked down. Again and Again.

Question of the day: What does success mean to you?

He specializes in video game artificial intelligence and has the gift of being open and vulnerable as he shares about his journey into video game development and the role his mom played on his career choice.

A lot of us choose careers to make our parent's proud. And most of us aren't even aware of this, or don't want to be aware. A lot of us chase titles and money for the sake of "looking good." We will never feel accomplished if this is our external driving force. We put ourselves in a circle where we are always searching for the next thing. Always trying to fill a gap in our life. Let's stop this. And let's focus on the true driving force of careers: making a difference in the world. Intrinsic values. Ask yourself how you want to contribute to society. Why do we argue to prove our points? Really, why? Are we trying to showcase our intelligence or are we deeply rooted to being right? In a world where we all want to be listened to. In a world where we all want to be heard, everybody speaks. Few listen with the intent to understand. Let's change this. Sometimes in life, we purposely stay confused so that we do not have to act. We give away our power to san unknown that never gives an answer, because there is no answer. But we spend our time waiting. And we end up waiting for too long.

When do you stay in a state of confusion so that you do not have to take the next step?

Well, I stayed "confused" for so long on creating this podcast. I didn't know if I should have started a podcast or video channel. So instead of choosing one and going for it, I didn't make a decision and ended up not starting either.

This is your time to start!
