Most players think development is about getting shots up and going through drills. But what actually separates the players who make it from the ones who don't isn't the volume of reps — it's the compete level behind them. In this conversation, Obi and Rob break down what real player development looks like, why so many talented players still can't translate their work into games, and what coaches are actually watching for on recruiting visits.

They also get into the mental side of shooting slumps, what overseas basketball teaches you that college never could, and why the kids who don't want to play 21 are the same kids wondering why they're not getting minutes.

Most players transition to professional basketball without ever being told what actually changes — the pace, the tactics, the culture, and what teams overseas are really asking of you. In this conversation, Obi and Rob get into the gap between American and European basketball, and why so many talented players don't survive their first year abroad.

They also break down the real differences between European and South American play styles, what youth players need to prioritize now to be ready for the next level, and why the ability to stop somebody will always come before the ability to score.

In this episode of the podcast, Obi sits down with overseas veteran and coach Mike Fraser for a real conversation about professionalism, development, and what it actually takes to last in basketball.

Mike shares how a 13-year pro career across Europe and the Middle East shaped his mindset, from navigating tough environments and not getting paid to learning how to stay disciplined no matter the situation. He breaks down the habits that separate players who last from those who don’t — including recovery, preparation, emotional control, and daily consistency.

The conversation goes deeper as Obi reflects on his early overseas experience — getting cut in Italy, landing in Poland, and learning how to be a professional through Mike’s guidance. They unpack the importance of mentorship, why attitude can end a career faster than talent, and how the smallest habits can completely change your trajectory.

They also dive into the current state of youth basketball, the gaps in development, and what young players are missing today — from fundamentals and competition to emotional toughness and accountability. Mike shares his perspective as a coach in Canada, breaking down how the game is evolving and what athletes need to focus on if they want to reach the next level.

In this episode of the podcast, Obi sits down with head coach, relationship engineer, and Nigerian National Team assistant coach Torino Johnson for a real conversation about coaching, leadership, and what actually drives player development.

Torino shares how his journey from South Central Los Angeles to leading programs at Cal State LA and working with the Nigerian Men’s National Team shaped the way he approaches athletes. He talks about learning from mentors like John Wooden, building relationships with players, and why coaching goes far beyond X’s and O’s. For Torino, the job isn’t just about basketball — it’s about understanding people.

The conversation moves into the realities of development in today’s game. They unpack why shooting is still the most valuable skill on the floor, how social media is shaping young athletes’ expectations, and what coaches actually look for when they recruit players. Torino explains the difference he’s seen coaching men and women, why curiosity matters more than ego, and why the best players are usually the ones who stay open to learning.

Obi reflects on his own experiences as a professional athlete, from representing Nigeria on the international stage to working with younger players who are chasing the same dream. Together they talk about the importance of humility, building real relationships inside a team, and why growth in basketball often starts with growth as a person.

This episode isn’t just about basketball.

It’s about leadership.
It’s about perspective.
And it’s about understanding that the best coaches — and the best players — are the ones who never stop learning.

In this episode of the podcast, Obi sits down with sports psychologist and founder of Utah Sports Psych, Jon Osborn, for a real conversation about confidence, failure, and what success actually means.

Jon shares how a career-ending knee injury at 16 led him into the world of sports psychology, and how that moment shaped the work he now does with athletes at every level — from youth programs to collegiate teams and professional organizations. He breaks down what it really looks like to “get out of your head,” why fear of failure shows up so early in athletes, and how confidence isn’t a feeling — it’s a habit built through daily consistency.

The conversation goes deeper as Obi opens up about tearing his ACL, restarting his rookie season overseas, getting cut in Italy, and redefining success at every stage of his career. They unpack roles, resilience, arguing with coaches, social media comparison, and why being a great teammate might be the fastest way to unlock your own game.

This episode isn’t just about mental toughness. It’s about clarity. It’s about responsibility. It’s about understanding that success changes depending on the season you’re in.

And maybe most importantly — it’s about remembering that even at the highest level… those guys cry too.

The conversation goes deeper as they unpack Black History Month, the Tulsa Race Massacre, Oklahoma’s hidden history, and the tension between African and Black American identity. Jabee speaks candidly about representation, narrative control, and the importance of knowing who you are.

In this episode of the Wonbyone Podcast, I sit down with Sydnie Banks — a one-of-one luxury handbag artist whose work has been featured at New York Fashion Week and Art Basel.

We talk about her path into craftsmanship, starting with custom cowboy boots, and what it really looks like to commit to a craft for over a decade with no guarantees. Sydnie shares how growing up around creativity shaped her mindset, why being “all in” mattered early, and what it took to bet on herself again after loss, setbacks, and years of uncertainty.

We get into the discipline behind making six-month pieces by hand, the mental overlap between artists and athletes, why becoming the best mattered more than selling fast, and what people don’t see behind the finished product.

This conversation is about patience, belief, and staying locked into your path — even when nobody’s watching.

We also got to talk about one of the most important topics outside of the game which is agents. As a player a bad agent can really hinder your growth, so choosing the right agent is extremely important. Lastly, we discussed what he went through went he tore his achilles.  If you play sports or have dealt with any injuries you know how serious this injury is.

2015 NBA CHAMPION ( GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS) FESTUS EZELI.

We sit down with 2015 NBA Champion Festus Ezeli. This episode was more than him just telling his story but it was also a huge teaching lesson for me. He runs his own podcast and brand called rebuilding the beast where he sits down and interviews people who have overcome great obstacles in their life, he uses these success stories to influence and motivate others to never quit and never give up. I met Festus personally just a year ago in preparations for the 2021 olympics in Tokyo Japan. This podcast became more of a life lesson than I expected it to be, but as a student of life I used this opportunity to learn from a vet a man much wiser than me and picked his brain about his life experiences and some of the things he has learned during his journey.

In this episode we cover :
1m- Rebuilding the beast, how it started.

13m- Being so big, 6 feet 11 inches and needing a cartilage transplant, he had to wait for someone equally as big to to pass away for a cadaver transplant.

24min- What it felt like finally holding the NBA championship trophy.

34min- No matter your social class we are all humans who have emotions and feelings.

39m- Meditation

40m- Self love

Professional volleyball player on her personal life traumas and finding positivity in negative situations.

On this episode we sit down with professional volleyball player Khat Bell who is currently in Korea. I was especially looking forward to this episode mainly because khat has such an upbeat, optimistic, lively attitude I just knew this would be an episode filled with fun and laughter and it didn’t disappoint. I have known Khat through mutual friends for about 10 years now but this was the first time I actually had the pleasure of sitting down and having such an in depth conversation with her, really getting to know her, her story, her beliefs getting a good read on her character. Khat is a great person, someone who has been through a lot of mental struggles like most of us but her approach to life and her traumas is amazing. She has such a positive attitude but at the same time allows space for her to feel her feelings without judgement from herself and then move on with that positive attitude.

On this episode we cover-
3m - Playing in Korea, being the only foreigner on a team in a country where you can’t understand anything, unlike being in Europe most of us are familiar with Latin languages.

4m- khat speaking Korean

10m- What’s meant to happen will happen, no need to stress about it.

16m- Who is God to you?

22m- Khat speaks on her early years overseas how she was young and had a lot of maturing to do.

29m- The sacrifices our parent make for us.

33m- First experience with mental health, injury bad relationship.

42m- importance of BEING GRATEFUL

50m- Being on the Cast of The Circle Season 2.

58m- How she negotiated in her contract a one month period where she could leave despite having matches.

What’s going on everyone and welcome to the wonbyone mental health podcast. My name is Obi Emegano founder of wonbyone and also your host for this show.

I started this brand as a resource for mental health.

As somebody who has dealt with mental health issues I believe one of the most beneficial ways to grow and learn from those situations is to open up the conversation and share your own experiences with others. You never know by sharing your experiences you may be helping someone else who is dealing with the same or similar issues.

As I said earlier This podcast will be hosted by yours truly but I will be joined by a different guest each week who will be sharing their experiences with mental health.

We’ll dive into some of the methods, behaviors, habits and mindsets they have developed to help them live a healthy successful life despite the struggles they have faced.

I want This podcast will be a safe place for people to come, learn and share their own life experiences.

My hope is to normalize these conversations and remove the negative stigma that has been created by the society we live in.

Mental health is something that we will all go through in some form or another during our lifetime and hopefully you will hear something on this podcast that you can relate to. Something that helps ease the pain you are going through and gives you the strength to keep going.

Enjoy the podcast, learn from it, help one another and don’t forget to practice self love. Peace.

We are not at all professionals or giving advice, we are simply sharing our experiences in hopes to increase awareness and normalize conversations surrounding mental health.
