Do we ever ask ourselves this question? “What was I born to do?” We talk about finding our why a lot on this podcast, which fits into the question, “What was I born to do?” In order to answer that question, we need to assess our lives, our careers, etc, a bit deeper. I always love a good assessment.
In Ken’s new book, Find the Work You're Wired to Do, he helps you get to the heart of who you are and how you’re wired.
Once you have a clear picture of the type of work you do best, Ken will show you how to use your results to get specific in your job search, grow in your career, and make more money doing work you enjoy.
Sundi Jo took the assessment herself and we’ll dive into it a little bit together in this episode.
We're excited to have him back on The Workforce Link today, so let’s get to it. Here’s Sundi Jo's interview with Ken Coleman on how to find the work you’re wired to do.

In a world full of chaos, it can be really hard to keep a positive mindset in our lives and our jobs. We’re surrounded by constant negativity - when you turn the tv on, the radio, etc. And the habits we create determine our moods, too.
Have you ever wondered how to truly connect with people from different backgrounds? What if the key to unlocking greater self-awareness and better relationships lies in understanding the cultures that shape us?
We’re going to explore the concepts of cultural intelligence with author Loren Rosario-Maldonado.
In her latest book, Becoming the Change: The Power of Cultural Intelligence, Loren explores how embracing cultural intelligence can lead to self-discovery. Drawing from her multicultural experiences and extensive research, she offers a unique and insightful perspective on how cultural intelligence can unlock personal growth and a deeper understanding of oneself and the world.

The traditional norms of loyalty in the workplace are rapidly evolving. The uncertainty of job security often leaves us grappling with emotions when faced with unexpected layoffs or job loss. It's a painful experience that can leave us feeling wounded and adrift, prompting two common reactions: anger and resentment towards the company or just allowing ourselves to go numb.
Emotional wounds from job loss demand attention and healing. However, the urgency of our financial responsibilities often pushes us to suppress our pain and quickly seek new opportunities. But how do we navigate this tumultuous period?
In today’s episode, we will explore the emotional landscape of unemployment and strategies for navigating these challenging times.

Something that Eugena mentioned several times in our interview was the importance of knowing that we as women, deserve a seat at the table. We got more vulnerable in this conversation than I (Sundi Jo) was expecting, but I loved every minute of it.
As a single mom determined to carve out the American dream for herself and her son, Eugina's story resonates deeply with those striving to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. Ah, Fridays—a day that often screams, "Freedom! Time to unwind!" But for many job seekers, it's a constant battle between taking a break and feeling guilty about not hustling for that dream job. Sometimes, we need to take a breather from the relentless job search grind. I want to spend a few minutes in today’s episode dissecting this a little.
When you’re in the midst of a job search, you can quickly get yourself into a recurring pattern: feeling guilty for not doing enough. And if you dare think about taking a break, that pesky negative self-talk creeps in. “You should be searching. You should be hustling. Don’t even think about having fun.”
But here’s a question: Wouldn’t you rather go into your job search refreshed and rejuvenated? If you answer yes, I’m officially giving you permission to take Fridays off from job hunting.
It’s crucial to grant yourself permission to unwind without guilt. That nagging voice? It steals away the joy of relaxation and rejuvenation. It's toxic, my friend, and it needs to go.
So, what's the remedy? Well, instead of poring over job listings or tweaking resumes on Fridays, let's hit the pause button on the job search grind and hit play on life!

“You were put here with a mission—to “be the one” who lives a life and writes an unforgettable story for your family tree, which enables future generations to look up and say: He’s “the one” who altered the pattern of abuse. She’s “the one” who overcame the addiction, who ended our financial struggles, who snapped generational chains... He’s “the one” who set the example. She’s “the one” who inspires us.”
Powerful words. We wish we would've said them ourselves. Today’s guest, Justin Prince, did though, and we can’t wait to dive deeper into this topic today on how to create, design, and live an unforgettable life.
In this episode of The Workforce Link Podcast with Justin and Sundi Jo, we're going to learn how setbacks can launch us into success, how to clarify our vision for the future, how to keep going when things get hard, and more.
Justin Prince is a global entrepreneur who has built five multimillion-dollar businesses that have generated more than two billion dollars in revenue; an acclaimed keynote speaker who has shared stages around the world with icons such as John C. When was the last time you took a stroll down memory lane, flipping through childhood photos? It can be an intriguing experience to encounter your younger self, with shorter, darker hair and a slightly different face. Yet, that mischievous grin and a spark of determination in your eyes remain unchanged.
The same can be said for the rest of us – some aspects evolve while others endure. However, it's essential to remember that who we were does not dictate who we can become. The essence of being human lies in our ability to shape our future. Change can be beautiful, and you have the power to make transformation happen.
In today’s episode, we’re gonna talk about exactly how to do this.

Oprah Winfrey says this about mentorship, “A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” I love that quote because it’s so true. Sometimes we need others in our lives to see things about us we can’t necessarily see ourselves.
We need people we can look up to, people who will support us as we pursue our dreams, careers, relationships, etc. And no matter where we are in life, we need someone to keep seeing that hope in us.
May Angelou mentored Oprah. Entrepreneur Ron Bruder mentored leadership expert Simon Snek. Steve Jobs mentored Mark Zuckerberg. You’re never too successful to need someone to help you keep growing.
In today’s episode of The Workforce Link, we’ll talk about exactly how to find a mentor.

You’re not always going to agree with everything your boss says or does. Unfortunately, many of us assume disagreeing with our boss = losing our jobs. But most of the time, that’s not the case.
Yes, your boss is just that - your boss, meaning they are superior to you, but that doesn’t mean they’re perfect. They make mistakes. You won’t always have the same opinion as them.
Can you disagree with your boss without burning bridges? The answer is yes, and we’re going to talk about how to fight well with your boss in today’s episode of The Workforce Link.

I know a lot of moms out there who truly are superheroes. Somehow they find a way to balance it all - work, soccer, marriage, all the things. Maintaining a career and family is not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.
But sometimes I think we believe the like that we can’t be moms and have a thriving career. Now, I didn’t say it’s easy, but I am saying that I believe it’s possible. Today I want to share some key habits to help set you up for success as a working mom.
Habits are a byproduct of consistent repetition. That means you have to keep implementing the next right step over and over again before you see results. Sometimes it happens quickly; sometimes it feels like it takes forever.
So, as we dive in together today remember that you will eventually get where you want to go if you don’t give up.

Job-hopping is a pretty popular habit, maybe more so now than ever. And I think it happens for different reasons. Sometimes we don’t know what we want. Sometimes we’re just not ready for the challenges that come our way. Sometimes we don’t feel like doing that job anymore, so we move to something else before earning our first paycheck.
Changing jobs frequently can negatively affect your career search. Now, that doesn’t mean you have to stay in a job just because you hate it or it’s miserable. That’s not what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about bouncing from one place to another quickly and without good reason.
There’s really no way to sugarcoat it. Changing jobs often doesn’t look good for you, and employers aren’t impressed.
But the good news is you can overcome that. So in today’s episode, we’ll talk about how to stop hopping from job to job.

“Do you have any questions for me?” This is a pretty common question you usually hear at the end of a job interview.
Never, I repeat, never, answer that question with a “no”. There’s always at least one question for you to ask, but I can almost guarantee there is more than one.
“Well, what are they?” you ask. Great question. That’s what we’re going to dive into in today’s episode.
We’re actually going to talk about 8 questions that every job seeker should ask in a job interview.

Can you believe we’ve already spent 36 episodes together? Time flies when you’re having fun and learning how to take your career to the next level. Thanks for sticking with me for 3 seasons and if you’re good with it, I’ll be back for Season 4.
A couple episodes back, on episode 34, we talked about a big question that usually gets asked in a job interview: “What’s your biggest weakness?” Another popular question that usually gets asked is “Why should we hire you?” This is actually one of the most common interview questions.
In today’s episode we’re going to talk about how to answer this question so you can be one step ahead in your interview. Being able to answer this question with confidence lets the employer know what you have to offer, why you’re the perfect fit for the job, sell yourself well, and ultimately land the job.

If you’re truly wanting to find a new job, or even a new career that you’d like to stay in long-term, sometimes job hunting can be pretty time-consuming. And we often make plenty of mistakes along the way.
Hopefully, after listening to today’s episode, we can help you avoid some of those job hunting mistakes.
One myth out there, especially for those who are unemployed, is that you must now spend 40 hours/week looking for a new job. But that’s not really a good idea. If you’re truly spending 40 hours/week looking for a job, you’re going to burn yourself out before you even get to the end of the week. And of course with burnout comes dread, panic, and all the things.
It’s possible for you to learn how to efficiently search for a job and we’re going to talk about it in today’s episode of The Workforce Link.

One of the most common interview questions we hear, as well as one of the most uncomfortable, is “What is your biggest weakness?” It kind of seems counterintuitive, doesn’t it? The employer wants you to impress them with how awesome you are and why they should hire you, but then they throw a wrench in the game and ask you to tell them what’s wrong with you.
So can you be confident in your interview AND be confident in talking about your weaknesses? The answer is “yes” and we’re gonna talk about that in today’s episode of The Workforce Link Podcast.

Let’s face it, our attention spans in today’s world are much shorter than they were 10,5, even a couple of years ago. We’re consumed by short videos and posts on social media. If we can’t say it in the length it takes to write a tweet, no one seems to want to hear it.
This doesn’t just apply to social media. Employers and hiring managers want to see shorter resumes, too. If it’s more than two pages they lose interest. But, can you shorten your resume without it losing value? The answer is yes, and we’re going to talk on the podcast today about how to shorten your resume without losing value.

Today we’re closing up Season Two of the podcast and I’m so thrilled you’ve spent the last two seasons with me. If you’re new to the podcast, there’s a lot to catch up on. Perhaps one of the benefits of the last crazy two years living in a pandemic is the opportunity for more remote jobs.
What’s interesting is that before the pandemic, there were many employees who wanted to work remotely, but a lot of employers weren’t on board. I think part of that is that they couldn’t see the benefits because it was new territory.
Prior to the pandemic, only 6% of employees were 100% remote.
As of today, according to a report from Businesswire, the anticipated growth rate of full-time, remote work over the next five years has doubled from 30% to 65%.
In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about the top 5 fastest-growing remote jobs that you may want to apply for in 2022.

So, here you are, getting that raise that you’ve been waiting for. And what’s even better – you didn’t even have to ask for it.
A spontaneous raise is not usually in the cards, but it can be.
Most raises depend on a variety of certain factors, not just whether or not you deserve one.
None of us are guaranteed a raise, unless you’ve signed something specifically in a contract that stipulates so. Especially a raise we’re not really even expecting.
But… There are some things you can do to get yourself closer to that raise without perhaps even having to ask.

We’re all going to disagree, right? But how we handle that disagreement is what matters. It only takes a short amount of time before everyone in the organization starts to feel the negative energy coming from co-workers who are in the midst of an ungly disagreement. I don’t know about you, but that’s not a fun environment to be a part of. We can’t avoid disagreement. As a matter of fact, we shouldn’t. If we all agreed on everything, we would never grow – it would be counterproductive.
But how we disagree is what is important. That’s what we’re going to chat about in today’s episode.

What if you actually sit down together and figure out a way to encourage each others’ different ideas without duking it out?
The last thing you want to do is walk away from the issue leaving it unresolved, because it will come back to haunt you later. Burying the problem only makes it fester longer, and no one wins!
In today’s episode, we’re diving into four specific ways that you can handle workplace disagreements to improve and strengthen your work relationships.

There’s an old saying you may be familiar with that says, “Ask and you shall receive.” It’s completely true, and that’s just what you need to do, my friend.
You have to ask for the interview.
It’s as simple as that. You have to ask.
Not only that, but where you ask matters. We're talking about exactly where you need to make the ask in your cover letter.

When we know our value, our decisions reflect that. When we don’t know our value, our decisions reflect that.
The words we hear, whether spoken to us or by us, affect the way we see the world. They affect the decisions we make. We start to believe things that aren’t true and before we know it, our minds only know what we’ve led ourselves to believe.
It's time to find our value, friends! It changes everything about the way we approach the workforce!
