As we look back on all the successes that we have enjoyed in the past year, may our hearts be filled with humility not pride.
As we enter 2023. we should not only forget our failures but also our successes. Success has ruined more people than failure. It is important to view success with an honest perspective.
To enter 2023 with a fresh start, I must adequately deal with 2022. For the mistakes I have made, I must admit them, accept responsibility for them and ask God and others to forgive me.
The goal of Paul's life was to know Christ. In order to stay close to Christ it required forgetting what was behind and looking forward to what's ahead. As we prepare to enter a new year, let us face 2022 with a realistic perspective. Facing our mistakes with honesty and our successes with humility.
The most important thing that we can that will help us make decisions we won't regret is to do what God's Word tells us to do.
We make better decisions when we remember who we are. We acknowledge our limitations and look to God and others for help.
Emotions are powerful and helpful in life but they can be horrible guides. Be careful about your emotions when you have a big decision to make. Joseph was instructed by the angel to not live in fear. Don't let fear or any emotion drive your decisions.
God speaks to us primarily through His word. However, He will speak His word to us through circumstances and people if we will look and listen.
The fourth reason why life is hard is because of the Satan, self, sinners and the Savior. God disciplines those He loves. Hebrews 12:5-7
The second reason why life is so hard is that we often make it hard by our poor choices. While God forgives us of whatever we do, we cannot often escape the consequences of our actions.
The first reason why life is hard is because Satan is real. He hates God's people and seeks to discourage them.
Jesus warned us the majority of people would not hold the position that there was one way to heaven. This belief would be a minority position.
The fourth way that we know that Jesus is the only way to heaven is that Jesus is the only one to have met the qualifications necessary to make us right with God.
The third way that we know Jesus is the only way to heaven is His resurrection validates it.
The second reason that Jesus is the only way to heaven is that the disciples affirmed and taught it. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. -Acts 4:12
The first reason why I believe Jesus is the only way to God is because Jesus said He was. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
The fifth way to make judgements without being judgmental is to judge with right judgements.
The fourth way to make judgements without being Judgmental is to keep quiet if possible.
The second way that we can make judgements without being judgmental is to be thorough before pronouncing guilt.
The first way to make judgements without being judgmental is to be quick to believe innocence.
Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. -Matthew 6:34
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them. -Psalm 139:16
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. -Philippians 4:8
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7
Whoever trusts in his riches will fall,
but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf. (11:28)
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered. -Proverbs 11:24, 25
Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your produce:
then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine. (3:9-10)
Wealth gained hastily will dwindle,
but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. (13:11)
Know well the condition of your flocks,
and give attention to your herds,
for riches do not last forever;
and does a crown endure to all generations? (27:23-24)
The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance,
but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
The getting of treasures by a lying tongue
is a fleeting vapor and a snare of death. (21:5-6)
The rich rules over the poor,
and the borrower is the slave of the lender. (22:7)
Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
but righteousness delivers from death. 11:4
Better is a little with the fear of the Lord
than great treasure and trouble with it. 15:16
A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
and favor is better than silver or gold. 22:1
Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household,
but he who hates bribes will live. 15:27
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. 3 I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. - Daniel 10:2-3
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. -Acts 13:2-3
Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.” -Esther 4:16
David therefore sought God on behalf of the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. -2 Samuel 12:16
Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and went to the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib, where he spent the night, neither eating bread nor drinking water, for he was mourning over the faithlessness of the exiles.
Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Is it the best use of my time?
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. -Ephesians 5:15-17
Will it harm other people?
So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. -Romans 14:12-13
Will it make me a better person?
All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. -1 Corinthians 10:23
Would I want everyone to know about my decision?
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.
Is my decision in harmony with God's Word?
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. -Psalm 119:105
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.
My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.
The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil.
I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy.
May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.”
We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.
The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves.
Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for anyone to make another stumble by what he eats.
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died.
Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.
Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God;
For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.
One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.
Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.
Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another;
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith;
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.
But to Israel he says: “All day long I have stretched out My hands
To a disobedient and contrary people.”
“And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!””
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:
The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;
So Samuel said:
“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
As in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams."
If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
When men rose up against us,
Then they would have swallowed us alive,
When their wrath was kindled against us;
Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.
So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.
But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: "We ought to obey God rather than men."
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.
Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee
Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”
And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
