The enduring images of Robert Capa
Hungarian born Robert Capa was one of the world’s most celebrated war photographers. But he hated war so much that when he came to photograph here in 1948, the IDF spokesman’s office was leery of him being too leftist. Many of his best images from Israel were photographs of everyday life in 1948. Curator Raz Samira from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art joins the program to help take a look at the life and work of a man whose images set a new standard in photojournalism.

The music of peace: Diwan Saz is a multicultural Jewish-Muslim group of seven musicians who perform ancient music from Central Asia, Turkey, Persia, and the Holy Land - promoting peace and understanding through their music. Yochai Barak, the group’s manager and a saz musician, talks the group’s musical home – the Galilee – as the terrain that helped produce a music of peaceful coexistence.
So Eighties: The world looked different in the 1980s – and Israel had a distinct feel that is passing from the landscape. Drive-In, a new exhibit at the Ashdod Art Museum, takes visitors on a photographic journey through those years. Curator Yuval Beaton tells TLV1 what was unique about the images of the day.

Rabbi Uri Regev of Hiddush, Freedom of Religion for Israel, says the Rabbinate’s policies reflect a deep hostility toward Christianity and non-Orthodox Judaism.

Etty Gargir, the Head of the Tourism Department in Ilana Goor Museum in Jaffa, speaks about Museum’s eclectic nature, and how each room features creations from different places and times. The museum isn’t just a relic: artist Ilana Goor actually lives there.
TLV1’s person of the week is Gilad Admoni. He is the founder of the line “Gam”, dedicated to bisexual parties in Tel Aviv and the first man to acknowledge this population in Tel Aviv’s nightlife. Gilad also is the personal manager of the famous Israeli singer Ivri Lider.
Sari Rivkin, founder and executive director of Yedid, the association of community empowerment talked to TLV1 about how the organization acted to empower Israelis to become self-sufficient and civically engaged members of society.
Yael Unterman is a poet, author, actress and lecturer on various Jewish topics shared with us her Jewish thought of the week. Yael talks to TLV1 about how love and longing isn’t just the subject of her new book, but is the quintessential subject of Shir HaShirim, the Song of Songs, which will be read in synagogues this Shabbat, as it is every year on the Shabbat that falls during the Passover holiday.
