Have you ever thought you were headed in the right direction, only to discover you are way off course? This week we will examine the story of the Apostle Paul’s u-turn in life. Paul’s life takes a radical turn when he hears Jesus. How does Jesus direct us to turn around?
Getting ready for a Summer adventure? By mid-May many of us are looking forward to some kind of experience about to come. In this podcast we begin our first summer series called "Road Trip." The spiritual life is an adventure for sure, so what clues can we take from a road trip to inform our faith life? We begin this week with "Hit the Road"
In the words of Pope John Paul II, "‘without hope, there is no faith." Hope serves as the bedrock of our faith, enabling us to navigate life’s toughest trials and continue moving forward each day.
But how do we nurture and sustain hope? That’s the question we’ll delve into during this podcast.
In the Gospel of John Jesus makes a number of statements about his identity. "I am the bread of life." "I am the light of the world." "I am the good shepherd." All of them tell us something different about who he is. In this podcast, we reach the last of these statements, and there is something different about this one. It is the only "I am" statement followed by "you are." Join us as we reflect on how Jesus' identity and ours are connected and how in him we find true life.
Perhaps Psalm 23 is a universally known and beloved Psalm that reminds us about the ways in which God watches over us. The Gospel Lesson reminds us that Jesus told us that he is our Good Shepherd. What does that mean for us? Join us in this podcast as we explore the trust we can place in Jesus.
Join us in this podcast as we learn more about important scripture. This week we focus on the topic, Laying Down One's Life for Another.
Is seeing believing? It was exactly one week after Easter morning when Thomas was not ready to believe Jesus was resurrected without seeing the nail marks which got him the nickname "Doubting Thomas."
In this podcast we explore this question through the lens of Thomas.
Happy Easter! This Sunday we gather to celebrate the Good News of Jesus' Resurrection and his victory. But you may wonder, "where can I see and experience the resurrected Jesus?" Join us in this podcast as we explore that important question.
This Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week as we remember Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. It was a day of celebration when people waved palm branches and spread them on the road to welcome the one whom they believed would save them.
Jesus came into the world to do that and to show the world love, yet that love was not without risk. As we continue our sermon series this week called "Foolish Love," we'll reflect on how love often requires us to be vulnerable and to take leaps of faith.
When you hear the word "prodigal" what first comes to mind? We have a specific understanding of it from the Biblical story we call "The Prodigal Son." You might be surprised as to the real meaning of that word with fresh insight into God in a familiar story. In this podcast we'll explore "Foolish Love is Prodigal."
Have you ever had anything in such abundance that you felt like there was waste? This week join us as we explore "Foolish Love is Wasteful" in our Lenten sermon series.
One of the typical phrases I used to hear as a dad and certainly said as a child is "that's not fair!" As a child, things really did feel unfair, but as a parent I understood my decision process that may have felt unfair to one or both of our boys, but I understood there was greater good that would be the outcome.
Foolish Love demonstrated by Jesus and passed on to us has lots of opportunity for "that's not fair." God, our heavenly parent's sense of fair and our sense of fair are not always aligned. In this podcast we will explore, "Foolish Love . . . is unfair."
As we are growing up, we are often taught that we need to "follow the rules." Yet Jesus didn't always do that. Join us on this second Sunday of Lent as we continue our sermon series called "Foolish Love" and explore the idea that sometimes love means breaking the rules.
This Sunday is the first Sunday of the season of Lent. Our series called "Foolish Love" gives us the opportunity to explore that the love Jesus leads us to share with the world could be considered "foolish." Jesus' ways are not the world's ways. This week we kick off the series with "Foolish Love . . . Forgives."
Join us for our Ash Wednesday podcast as we mark the beginning of Lent and ask the question - What is love?
Have you had one of those mountain top experiences? How do we respond to them? What about those mountain top experiences in our spiritual lives? Join us in this podcast as we explore the story of Jesus' transfiguration... on a mountain-top. See you then.
Scripture tells us to "Rejoice in the Lord always." How do we do that? Join us in this podcast as we explore this question.
This week brings the conclusion of our "Wrestling with Doubt" series with what might be the single most difficult question of faith that leads to doubt: "Why do the Innocent Suffer?" We have lots of things we have learned to say in these difficult situations to try to make some sense of it, but they often falls short. In this podcast we will explore this question, seeking deeper understanding and comfort in suffering.
Perhaps one of the most challenging questions that can lead to wrestling with doubt is when prayers go unanswered. Many struggle with faith when it seems God is silent in response to our most fervent prayers. Let's explore that question in this podcast as we continue our "Wrestling with Doubt" series.
We continue this Sunday with our series "Wrestling with Doubt." We have lots of questions about faith and sometimes it leads us to doubt. In this series we are exploring four common places where Christians have questions. In this podcast we continue with the question "Is Jesus the Only Way?"
Have you ever struggled with doubt in your faith journey? It's not at all unusual - we all experience it from time to time. It's not a sign of weakness. It all depends on what you do with it. In this podcast we begin our new series "Wrestling with Doubt" where we will explore four common places Jesus followers often have questions. This week: "Is the Bible True?"
The preparation is complete. The Lord has come. What do we do now? Join us as we prepare to enter a new year and consider how we will respond to the gift of Jesus.
Join us to hear through the Scriptures once again about the hope, peace, joy, and love that can be found in Jesus.
Have you ever been in the situation of looking for something and someone points it out? The world was waiting for, looking for, longing for the Messiah. In our text this week, we see this guy, John, pointing to the "Light" so all might believe and see. The light was the Messiah who came to dispel all darkness. Join us in this podcast as we explore how pointing to the "Light" is a part of preparing for his coming. Testify!
The second Sunday of Advent each year brings us John the Baptist - likely one of the most eccentric characters of the Jesus story. He did, however, have one of the most important jobs of preparation. In our Advent series, "Prepare," this week, we'll take some cues from John to "Get Ready."
The season of Advent begins this week and we're off on the journey to Christmas. Our worship series is called "Prepare." It is an invitation to spiritually prepare for God's ultimate inbreaking into the world in Jesus.
This week is "Keep Awake" and is an invitation to stay awake as we wait for and recognize God's inbreaking. Where do you see it? In the headlines? In the community? In the world?
This Sunday marks the end of the Christian year. In a sense, it is like New Year's Eve for the church, and New Year's is often the time when we reflect on what we want to do differently in our lives.
A good place to start that reflection is by listening once again to what Jesus says is most important. Join us in this podcast as we explore one of Jesus' last teachings and the story of the sheep and the goats.
We have so much to offer the world in Jesus Christ. God has blessed us beyond measure with things like love, grace, forgiveness, etc. Why would we want to bury it and not make it multiply in the world?
In this podcast we take up Jesus' second to last parable he taught according to Matthew- the Parable of Talents. It's a tough and challenging one for sure. Join us as we explore how it impacts our lives of faith.
From when I was a Boy Scout, I have always remembered the scout motto: "Be Prepared." That's what comes to mind as we read the last three parables Jesus tells as Matthew records them in his Gospel. Why would these be Jesus' last parables? And what does that teach us as we head toward the Advent season? Let's explore how to "Be Prepared."
All Saints' is one of the high celebrations for the Christian Church. It is an opportunity to give thanks to God for the lives of those who have meant so much to us and are no longer in this life. And it provides an opportunity for their lives and example to impact the way we live our lives.
We all need healing from a variety of things from physical to emotional to spiritual realities. One thing that can impact all areas of our lives is when we are carrying the weight of brokenness in our relationships with each other and with God. This week's installment in our "Creed: I Believe" series is "I Believe in the Forgiveness of Sin." Healing is possible. Let's talk about it.
If someone were to ask you, "Who is Jesus?" what would you say? As we continue our sermon series, "Creed: I believe," we'll explore this important question. Join us and discover for yourself who he is and the difference he can make in your life.
What do we believe when it comes to our Christian faith? What are the essentials? What does the Bible say? Join us for the beginning of a new Sermon Series called "Creed: I Believe" where we are going to take a journey through the ancient Apostles' Creed and explore the ways it both informs and forms our faith. This week we begin with "I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth."
How big is God's Grace? How big is God's forgiveness for us? It is "incalculable." It can't be measured because it is so huge. If that is so, and we receive that incalculable grace from God, what's our next move? Join us in this podcast as we explore our next move.
We are here for a purpose. When we plug in, Jesus fills our lives with meaning; but that’s not the end of the story! Jesus sent the disciples to go into all the world – and sends us to do God’s work too. Join us in this podcast as we explore how we can plug in for others.
Just as electrical devices need to be connected to power sources to function optimally, there are things that we can plug into that help us live lives of purpose and meaning and lives that reflect who God created us to be. In this podcast, we will look at plugging into the most powerful source - Jesus Christ- and how he can change everything.
Do you feel like something might be missing in your life? Feel disconnected? Long for something more? Or, are you wrestling with all kinds of things to do and wondering when to say yes to something and when to say no? In this podcast we begin a new sermon series called "Plugged In." Just as electrical devices require connection to function optimally, there are certain things to which we can connect that bring our lives more strength and meaning. We begin this week with a reminder that purpose and fulfillment can be found when we plug into community where all belong.
We wrap up our summer series "Crossroads of Creation" this Sunday as we arrive at the end of Genesis. This week we explore the power of "Re-Membering" the stories of Genesis to remember God's relentless effort to save and redeem the world!
Jesus gave us a clear message about how his disciples' action among folks he called "the least of these." (Matthew 25:41-43) Mission partnerships to serve for Jesus are significant ways churches engage in his command. Our partnership with Manos Juntas in Mexico is such a partnership. This podcast holds an extra special treat in worship as Willie Berman (the missionary leader in Mexico) is at Trinity in worship at all services. Join us for an inspiring conversation with Willie!
Look at what God can do! Our journey through Genesis has shown us that time and time again that God can take the most difficult, broken experiences in the human family and turn them to something for good. That action is redemption. Join us in this podcast as we explore yet another act of redemption in what feels like an unredeemable situation.
What is it that people do that pushes your buttons - sets you off? Ever had so much that it actually affected your feelings toward them or your relationship? This week's installment in our "Crossroads of Creation" series, that's exactly what was going on with Joseph and his brothers - that fancy coat was the last straw. Join us in this podcast as we explore how this ancient story intersects with ours.
When's the last time you wrestled with God about something? Did you end up with a sleepless night continuing to wrestle? Jacob, our ancient ancestor, had that kind of experience where he wrestled all night. It left him with a hip out of joint and a new name. Wow! Join us in this podcast as we explore his sleepless night and see what we can take from his experience for our own lives.
Families are complicated. Sometimes they are filled with great love. Sometimes they are plagued with conflict and resentment. Many times they are some combination that lies between these two extremes. This week's Scripture offers us a glimpse at an important family in the book of Genesis. Join us in this podcast as we explore how God is at work in the lives of even the most imperfect family and what we can learn about faith through the sibling rivalry of two brothers.
Some of the texts in the Bible are hard to take. If we were honest, we'd just rather skip them over. This week's text is challenging, but there's some Good News about God that shines through. Join us in this podcast as we explore a God who is Just in Time!
Whoever said that there's not much to laugh at in the Bible? Abraham and Sarah surely got a chuckle or two in their story. Join us in this podcast as we explore why their "laughing out loud" was a big deal.
Promises, promises…What’s it feel like to have to accept a promise from someone based on their word only? How has your experience of having promises made that have both been kept and others broken? How do you trust a promise? This week we explore what is arguably the most important promise in Genesis – a promise that comes through the generations to our time.
So, what’s the big deal about the people wanting to build a tall tower? Why did God react with mixing up their languages so they could not understand each other? Why all this fuss about babbling? The next installment in our summer series “Crosswords of Creation” explores that ancient story of the Tower of Babel and how that impacts us even today. Enjoy this podcast!
Often we love to tell the story of Noah's Ark to our children- animals marching two by two into the ark, Noah faithfully following God's instructions, and a rainbow placed in the sky by God. Yet, is there more to this story? Join us as we look at this story with fresh eyes and consider what it has to say about our Creator, human nature and God's love and grace.
Do you love the stories that lay at the foundation of our inherited faith found in Genesis? Have you ever noticed the ways they intersect with each other? This Sunday we begin our Summer worship journey, Crosswords of Creation, where we will explore the intersection of the stories and where we see God's unwavering love and grace.
We welcome you to join us in this podcast as we joyfully commemorate Pentecost, a testament to the dynamic movement of the Holy Spirit. Please join us as we embrace this moment of celebration, reflection, and new beginnings.
The journey of LENT has prepared our hearts and brought us to the Good News of EASTER!
This episode we explore "Courage Between Fear & Joy"!
Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:1-10.
One of the joys of being part of a church is the chance to celebrate life's milestones together. Join us in this podcast as we celebrate the ways God is at work in our midst and remember what it means to be the body of Christ.
Like the Apostle Paul during his visit to Athens, we too often encounter diverse communities comprising different religions and philosophies. Paul sought common ground to share the good news of Jesus, and we can learn from his approach even today. Join us in this podcast as we explore the theme of "Common Ground: Sharing the Good News in a Diverse World," which highlights the importance of finding points of connection with others to spread the message of hope and love.
We often hear about how Jesus loves us, but did he really mean allof us? How could his love be for everyone? Join us in this sermon as we conclude our sermon series, Questions Our Kids Ask, But We All Want To Know, with the question- Why would Jesus want to eat with thosepeople?
Throughout Scripture we hear incredible stories of God speaking to people. Often we long to hear that voice too, but how does God talk to us, and how do we recognize that voice? These are questions our kids at Trinity have asked us. Join us on this podcast as we seek to answer these questions and reflect on how we can become more attuned to God's voice.
Our series "Questions Our Kids Ask, But We All Want To Know" continues this week with the question from one of our Trinity children, "Is Jesus an Alien?"
We take a deeper dive into this child's question, which helps us understand that they were trying to figure out how Jesus appears and disappears - how Jesus can be completely a man and at the same time completely God- and how God be in the form of a human. These are great theological questions even I continue to wonder about and explore. Let's look into these questions together on this Sunday's podcast.
Why is the sky blue? Why do I need to eat my vegetables? Why do people get sick? Why do we have two eyes yet only see one thing? Why? Why? Why? From a very young age, kids are filled with many questions. Some are serious. Some are funny. Some are easily answered, and some leave us flustered. They aren't afraid to ask the tough questions though, and often their questions have a way of teaching us.
In this episode, we will be launching a new sermon series called "Questions our Kids Ask, But We All Want To Know." In this series, we will be exploring some of the questions that we have heard from our kids at Trinity and how they can teach us more about our faith. Join us as we visit the story of Jesus turning water into wine, which prompted our preschoolers to ask - Can Jesus come to our class and make us more Kool-Aid?
Where are those places that feel lifeless to the point of hopelessness? We follow a God who is in the business of bringing life to that which seems dead. We are glad you're here this episode as we explore the life-giving power of God.
Scripture Readings - Ezekiel 37:1-14 and John 11:1-45.
It’s such a powerful experience to be chosen for something. Maybe it is for a job, a position on a sports team, as a friend. This week’s episode will focus on knowing that we are chosen by God and what to do with that.
Scripture Readings - 1 Samuel 16:1-13 and John 9:1-41 (MSG)
The image of water pervades the Bible from the moment of creation to the end. This week’s installment in our “Learning to Live Inside Out” series gives us two water scriptures: In the first, Moses strikes a rock in the wilderness from which water flows for the weary and thirsty Hebrew travelers making way from slavery in Egypt to the promised land. In the second, Jesus has a conversation with a Samaritan woman by Jacob's well. How do these two stories connect and what do they say to us at the place they connect? Join us this Episode as we explore the theme: “Give Me Water!”
In preparation - read Exodus 17:1-7 and John 4:5-15.
Last Episode we began the journey of the Lenten season and were reminded of the saying, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
This episode we explore ways in which God leads us to move. For Abram that meant leaving his home and going to a new place. For Nicodemus it meant moving from one mindset to another. What is required for you?
READING: Genesis 12:1-4a and John 3:1-17
This Episode was recorded on the first Sunday of the Christian season of LENT - the 40 days leading up to EASTER.
Our Lenten Series, Learning To Live Inside Out takes us on the important journey of INWARD self-examination & reflection, but also has us considering the OUTWARD state of our souls as we walk about in the world. Week #1 is called “If You Fall Down.” Scripture Reference = Matthew 4:1-11.
This rounds off our Hearts on Fire series focused on what we United Methodists uniquely bring to the Christian family through our Wesleyan heritage. In these six episodes our primary focus has been on grace. But, this episode we are reminded that John and Charles Wesley were also very accomplished musicians who prolifically wrote thousands of hymns. They understood that "singing our faith" helps grow our faith.
Join in as we "sing our faith" and dig into the theology found in our Wesley hymns.
[Recorded on Sunday, February 19, 2023 @ Trinity United Methodist Church, Columbus, OH]
For more than 80 years researchers at Harvard University have been studying the keys to happiness and fulfillment. What did they find? No factor contributed more to happiness than good relationships with others. This shouldn't be surprising given the fact that we hear Jesus in Scripture speak of the importance of being in relationship with one another. This Sunday we explore how relationships can help us grow in our faith and in love and how they help us to live into who God intends us to be.
After we come into relationship with God through Jesus, how do we both experience and grow in Grace? The Wesley brothers (the founders of the Methodist movement) had some thoughts about that. They named this part of our journey “Sanctifying Grace.” This Sunday we explored Sanctifying Grace and the ways we can experience God’s grace and grow in grace. If you’re tracking John Wesley’s image for the way of salvation as a house with us, we have been on the porch, walked through the door, and now inside the house. Join us as we look around the house.
To be in a relationship requires an intentional decision and saying “Yes” to that relationship. As we are exploring the ways in which we experience God’s Grace in our “Hearts on Fire” series, this week we will talk about Justifying Grace – saying “Yes” to the relationship God offers us through Jesus Christ. I invite you to say “Yes” to worship this week as we have an opportunity to say “Yes” to God through Jesus.
Did you ever have the experience of someone loving you way before you were even aware and maybe even before you knew of them? Often it means that one is wanting to get your attention, hoping you will notice, watching out for you, wanting to be in relationship. God is active that way in our lives way before we know it or maybe even know who God is through Grace. We call it Prevenient Grace. This Sunday’s installment of our “Hearts on Fire” series we explore God’s Prevenient Grace.
Our new series “Hearts on Fire” began this Sunday. In this series we are going to explore who we Methodists uniquely bring to the Christian family. Among those is hearts on fire because of personal experiences of Jesus through the Holy Spirit. This Sunday we kicked-off with both Pastor Wade and Pastor Kim team teaching as we began a journey of “Hearts on Fire!”
Friday in the Christian family is called “Epiphany” which makes this past Sunday “Epiphany Sunday.” What is that? It’s the last day of Christmas and marks the visit of the Magi (a.k.a. 3 Wise Men, 3 Kings) to the infant Jesus bearing gifts. How does the story of the Magi give us inspiration for our Trinity Core Value “We believe in Scripture”? This Sunday we'll explore both the story of the Magi and this Core Value.
A beautiful experience on John Wesley's Covenant Prayer to ground you for the new year. Or anytime moving forward.
When you think of peace, what comes to mind? An image of still water or a serene scene in nature? Quiet moments? Everyone getting along with one another?Peace can be all of these things, yet it also can often seem illusive in the midst of life's challenges. Join us as we explore the peace that Jesus offers us - a peace that is available regardless of what is happening in our lives and the world around us.
The Apostle Paul instructs us to “Rejoice in the Lord always.” When? Always. But really, is that possible? There are so many things that threaten to steal our joy both in the world and our personal lives. This week we explore Joy as a Christian world view. We continue our Advent Series “Regardless.” Regardless… Joy!
This Sunday begins the season of Advent – a season of waiting and preparation to celebrate the coming of the Christ child at Christmas. Just as they anticipated the coming of the Messiah long ago, we too anticipate the ways in which the Messiah comes to us in our lives today. Our worship series this Advent is called “Regardless.” It takes its cues from the challenges we face in our lives and in the world that would otherwise lead us to despair and reminds us that “Regardless,” there is still hope, joy, love, and peace. Join us this Sunday as we begin the journey with hope – “Regardless: Hope.”
Do you know the difference between a sheep and a goat? Find out what that has to do with the Reign of Christ and being a follower of Jesus!
Who’s invited to God’s table? As disciples of Jesus Christ we believe every person alive is welcome at God’s table. No matter what they do, where they’ve been, what they are called, all people are eternally valuable to God’s heart and invited to the table with open arms. But, do we Christians live as if that were true? This season at Trinity Church we are revisiting our Core Values, one by one, diving deep into each value with the goal of truly growing into the church God wants us to become. You are cordially invited to join us at the table of God.
The celebration of All Saints' Sunday is a special day where we'll remember and celebrate the lives of those whom we love and have entered into eternity. This Sunday, we celebrated the hope we have in Jesus while offering comfort and care to those whose loved ones have died in the past year.
Have you ever seen the commercial where the person holds up a mask in front of their face to hide their true feelings from everyone around them? We can often live our lives like this - feeling like if people truly saw us as we are, they wouldn't love or accept us. We can also go through times when we feel like we aren't really seen or valued. But there is good news and it can be found in this week's Scripture! This week, Pastor Kim explores the story of Zacchaeus and Jesus, the one who sees each of us fully and clearly and who loves us deeply.
Have you ever imagined what your last words on this earth might be? We have all heard the phrase “Famous Last Words.” This Sunday we explore the Apostle Paul’s last words and glean from them inspiration for our own journey of faith.
Jesus reminded his followers of the powerful reality that there is the expectation that his followers continue to make an impact in the world. He reminded them/us that when we serve others in Jesus’ name, we are serving him. This week we explore another of Trinity’s Core Values: Making an Impact.
Did you know that studies have shown that feeling thankful can improve sleep, mood, and immunity? Gratitude can also decrease depression, anxiety, difficulties with chronic pain and risk of disease. Practicing gratitude can change our outlook on life, lift our spirits, and affect our physical well-being. It is also an important part of our faith. This Sunday Pastor Kim looks at the story of a man who found healing in Jesus and who challenges all of us to consider what role gratitude and worship play in our own lives.
Jesus reminds us that he is the Bread of Life that whoever comes to him will never go hungry and never be thirsty. This Sunday was World Communion Sunday where Christians around the world all come to the communion table. Listen along as we explore Jesus as the Bread of Life that never perishes but endures to eternity and receive communion as a taste of that promise.
This week we will focus on another Trinity Core Value – “We Believe in Growing.” What does it mean to be a part of a community of faith that values being intentional in growing as a follower of Jesus?
Have you ever walked by something countless times and never noticed it? Then, after becoming aware of it, you wonder how did I miss it all this time? We can often walk through life without recognizing what is right in front of us, and in this Sunday's Scripture Jesus invites us all to expand our vision. Pastor Kim shares the story of the Invisible Man.
What’s the last thing you lost and desperately tore through your house to find? When it was found, do you remember the relief and joy? God is a relentless seeker who rejoices when the lost is found. This week we'll explore the good news of this relentlessly seeking God.
This week we bring our summer series where we have been walking through the book of Hebrews to a close. This final chapter gives us a glimpse of the author's vision for the privilege of life in the Christian community with an emphasis of what we "get" to do, rather than what we "have" to do.
As we near the finish line on our Summer journey through the book of Hebrews, the author makes a striking comparison of two mountains: Mt. Sinai and Mt. Zion. One representing the Law and one the Grace offered in Jesus. This Sunday we explore the invitation scripture offers from the mountain whose summit is impossible to the mountaintop to which Jesus invites all.
This week we took a week out of our summer Hebrews series to take a deep dive into another of our Trinity Core Values: "We Believe in Faithfulness." This is a second in a series of six Sundays over six months to explore what we value as a congregation. This week we explore what it means to say that we value "Faithfulness."
Have you ever watched a marathon? Many of the runners start off strong, but midway through they hit what is called the wall. Their bodies can't keep up the pace and sometimes they find themselves wanting to give up. We can go through life like this too. Things may seem good for a while, but then we run into challenges. In those moments, we can find ourselves discouraged and losing hope. This Sunday we talk about how keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus and holding onto our faith can help us run the race of life with perseverance!
Throughout the summer we have been taking a closer look at the book of Hebrews. This week, we turn our attention to chapter 11. In this chapter, the word "faith" appears more than 25 times in just 40 verses, but what does it mean to have faith? Does it mean that we can never have questions or doubts? Likewise, what does it mean to live a life of faith? This week Pastor Kim explores these questions.
You know that awesome feeling when you have confidence in something? This week's installment in our Summer Hebrews journey, we are reminded of the confidence we have in Jesus with some practical encouragement about how to live in this confidence. Let's explore Confidence in Christ.
One image for Jesus that we have seen the author of Hebrews emphasize over and over is Jesus as our High Priest. He stands in that place between our broken and fallen humanity and God. This week, that image comes again with a new wrinkle: redemption and our response. This week we explore this additional dimension of Jesus and how we are called to respond.
We're taking a deep dive into one of our Trinity Core Values: "We Believe in Belonging." Join us this week as we explore what it means to say that we value "Belonging."
This Sunday we continue our exploration of the Book of Hebrews. Pastor Kim talks to us about "What's on the Menu?" and how it relates to our faith.
"I've got some Good News and some Bad News. Which do you want first?" How many times have we heard that asked? That's kind of what this week's scripture text does in this Sunday's installment in our Hebrews journey for the Summer. Spoiler Alert: The Good News of Jesus outweighs bad news!
As we continue our journey through the book of Hebrews for the Summer, this week the writer encourages us to fix our eyes on Jesus as we are built into what is described as Jesus' house. We can live in a dwelling or dwell in the living - the living household of God through Jesus. This week we explore allowing Jesus to build us into his house.
Pastor Katy's last Sunday as one of our pastors, and after 10 years, she had lots of thoughts and a hope-filled message about Jesus to share with us.
This Sunday began an exciting Summer adventure at Trinity. We began a summer-long look at the book of Hebrews, a New Testament Epistle (letter) to early Christians. During our summer journey, you might find it helpful to bring along your Bible each week so the text we are exploring is in front of you. I am looking forward to a Summer of worship that will be a combination of Bible Study and Sermon proclamation as we make our way through this important book of the Bible. Grab your Bible and buckle in as we begin the journey this week with an introduction to Hebrews and its opening verses that set the stage for the whole letter.
Everything about Pentecost was a miracle. The wind, the fire, the words. Perhaps most miraculous was that folks heard the good news about Jesus’ resurrection, not in a game of translated telephone, but directly from the source, in their own language. What’s more, they listened to and understood the good news. How often do we hear but not listen? How often are we heard, but not listened to? How might we live in the world as if we have listened to, and understood, the good news about Jesus? Let’s explore this together.
Ascension Sunday is the day, 40(ish) days after the Resurrection when Jesus is taken up by God into heaven. The disciples, in their wonder, stand with their faces upward, watching Jesus go ... and then they keep looking up. Then two angels ask ... "Why do you stand looking up toward heaven?" An appropriate question, then. An appropriate question, now. There are times to look up toward heaven, and there are times to look out around the earth, and do what Jesus has called us to do.
This week we wrap up our "Build My Life" series with a very important day for us as the people called Trinity. We have been exploring the importance of Core Values in our personal lives, the Values of the Kingdom of God and this week we explore the six Core Values of Trinity.
In our current conversation about Core Values called "Build My Life," what are the values of the Kingdom of God from which Jesus ministered? These are also values that inform our lives as his representatives in the world. This Sunday we explore the Values of the Kingdom.
Pastor Wade spent this Sunday diving into where we are as a church. Our celebrations, our victories, and our growing edges.
On the way to Emmaus, on the day of the Resurrection, two disciples meet a man who tells them God's story as they walk together. Turns out, that man is Jesus. This Sunday was Bible Sunday, when 130+ kids at Trinity received their Bible from our church family. Let's explore the story God is telling us, and how we are invited to be part of it.
All through the season of Lent we have been on a journey called "Cultivating and Letting Go" all leading up to the Good News of Easter. This Sunday for Easter worship we explore "Cultivating Something New."
Palm Sunday is almost here! We'll read the familiar story of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, and explore what it means to let go of our expectations of God, which might allow us to see Good work in new ways. Plus, we're celebrating a return of a beloved Trinity tradition - handmade palm crosses.
Throughout the season of Lent and our approach to the Easter celebration, we are constantly reminded of the extravagance of God's love to us through Jesus. What do we do with this extravagant love we have received?
Are you kind to yourself when you make a mistake or something comes out less than "perfect?" Looking to the story of the Prodigal Son, join us this week as we explore Cultivating Self-Compassion and Letting Go of Perfectionism.
On the third Sunday of Lent, we'll work to let go of our reliance on easy answers, and work to cultivate being okay when there aren't answers to be found. Read Luke 13:1-9 for your preparation.
This week is the second Sunday in Lent and we're continuing our conversation about CULTIVATING & LETTING GO. This Sunday, let's talk about what it means to "Eat the Frog.
We kickoff our Lenten series "Cultivating & Letting Go" talking about areas where we can both expand and let go.
Finding the holy in the everyday can be really tough. Our lives are ordinary and often messy and don't feel special. Thankfully, Jesus shows us the way. This Sunday in worship, we'll hear the Transfiguration story and explore how Jesus transfigures our highs and lows.
Love your enemies. Turn the other cheek. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The reading from the Gospel of Luke this week includes these three and more. They are all tough teachings of Jesus and we often struggle to know how to live into them. We'll explore them this week.
On Easter we sing and praise God in celebration of Jesus' resurrection. But what do we say about the "Resurrection of the body" as the Christian family has recited for ages as a part of the Apostle's creed? This Sunday we explore "The Question of Resurrection."
Quite often, we feel inadequate to answer the call of God whether it be something small or a really big ask. We even have difficulty in hearing God's call and knowing how to answer that call. This Sunday as we wrap up our Re:Connect series by exploring "Re:Connect to Our Call."
Perhaps one of the most familiar passages of scripture often called the "Love Chapter" in the Bible helps us as we talk this week in our Re:Connect series about reconnecting with each other. This Sunday we explore how the words of the Apostle Paul help us with our disconnections with each other.
This week in our continuing ReConnect series, we encounter Nehemiah who was leading the people of God in rebuilding the city. In order to have the motivation to move forward required a reconnection with their God story that brought them back home. ReConnecting with our God-Story reminds us and motivates us toward a God-preferred future.
We're all good at something, but not all of us appreciate the "good" thing we've got. This Sunday, we'll think together about reconnecting to our gifts - both those we appreciate and those we .... don't. We'll try to remember - we're all good at something, and we're all good FOR something.
Our worship journey called Re:Connect continues this week as we explore our need to Re:Connect with Jesus. It is also Baptism of the Lord Sunday where we look at Jesus' own baptism and in the midst of that we discover the waters of baptism are the perfect place to "Re:Connect."
As we begin to Re:Connect to who we are, we are reminded that our true inheritance is from the family of Christ.
What makes love tough? How does God make love easy? How do we grow in love, with God and with one another? Let's talk about LOVE.
God's presence gives us joy - not that joy means the absence of challenge or difficulty, but joy in all circumstances.
There are some specific ways we experience that through Jesus in our lives. In this series, we will explore four ways: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. This week we focus on Hope.
The Christian Year begins on the first Sunday of Advent with the anticipation of the birth of the Messiah and ends on Christ the King Sunday.
