early years, schools, higher and further education policy, apprenticeships and wider skills in England.

Susan Lovelock - Sue joined the Civil Service in 2003 as a fast streamer at the Department for

Transport and worked for the Department for Communities and Local Government for over 10 years,

where she was responsible for policy and projects on preventing homelessness and repossessions,

housing strategy and reforms to the planning system.

In June 2017, Sue joined the Department for Education to lead the delivery of T Levels, ensuring that

colleges are ready to deliver the new qualification from 2020 onwards.

In my fifth episode I’m joined by Mike Wilson – Chief Automation Officer at The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). The Manufacturing Technology Centre was established in 2010 as an independent Research & Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry – often referred to as ‘the valley of death’. In this episode Mike shares what he sees as the barriers to the uptake of Automation.

Mike Wilson – Mike has nearly 40 years’ experience in successfully delivering the application of automation to manufacturing across a wide range of industry sectors, working for both users and suppliers of automation and also as an independent consultant. His book ‘Implementation of Robot Systems’ was published in 2014 and in 2018 his contribution to UK manufacturing was recognised by selection to The Manufacturer Top 100.
