From UK elections to the rise of far-right ideologies and the impunity of those spreading them to the Celebrity BlockOut2024 movement, we're reviewing some of the news that stuck with me during the break, analysing them, and understanding what we can do to try and make things better because no matter how bad it gets, we keep pushing!

All it took was one article about alleged conversations between President Macron and Aya Nakamura to start a national debate. It is rumoured that the singer might be performing at the 2024 Paris Olympics' opening ceremony, maybe even singing Edith Piaf and it's safe to say, a lot of people are unhappy. In recent years, the queer community, and more specifically the trans community have been subject to dangerous, unfounded, and hateful attacks from media, governments, and the general public all across the world. In a world where the idea of a 'culture war' is being thrown around senselessly, we got together to talk about the root of the many (non) issues that are surfacing notably in the UK and US and the need for all of us, to come together, recognise that was is happening is no more than a political distraction from the very real problems our societies face as well as continue to support and fight for every queer person's right to exist, live safely, and thrive.

It's been an intense few weeks in the digital world with Collen Ballinger getting canceled (yet again), Shein's latest and most controversial influencer trip and our usual internet favs (or not) acting absolutely unhinged, as always really!
In the chaos of all this, on the pod, it got us thinking about if and how influencer activity and content can be regulated and how many passes can a person get before they lose their platform.
We are back today and we are M.A.D. We're discussing the sentencing to prison of a woman in the UK who got an abortion beyond the legal limit, the limitations of legislation and the need for it to evolve with society, and why allyship cannot have conditions.
I talked about conditional allyship in an article a few months ago (link below) when looking at the bullying Sam Smith received, and it, in many ways applies here as it raises the question: should people's existence and decisions account for the feelings of others if they don't impact those others?

The Little Mermaid live-action premiered, Lilo & Stitch's live-action casting was announced and it gave us a perfect opportunity to remind ourselves qnd other people why casting racially ambiguous-looking to play characters with very specific physical features and cultural background is not the same as having a Black woman play a mermaid, why fair and diverse representation is essential, and whitewashing, beyond being unfair, is dangerous.
I am back today (on my own again), celebrating Juicy conversations' second birthday and looking back on the fun, challenges, and lessons of the past two years. Women's history month is coming to an end which is also a great time to remind ourselves of why raising awareness matters and what needs to change for gender equality. We're closing today's conversation with a debrief on the whole Hailey Beiber and Selena Gomez drama and why it all seems to have gotten out of hand, and how the whole thing stinks of sexism and misogyny.
In true Juicy conversations fashion, I've only Feb to post a podcast about the new year that was recorded on the 21st of January. But here it is, we're talking resolutions, learnings from 2022, and how simple habits, mindfulness, and self-care can really help with my mental health.

In today's episode, we look back at the big headlines of the summer as we ask ourselves, is the media's negativity really helping raise awareness against climate change and how much it can contribute to feelings of hopelessness, panic and fear. On a lighter note, we also looked at the little things we can all do to be more sustainable in our every day as well as the comfort that comes with being more aware of what climate change actually even means.

Juicy Conversations with Julie is back with another episode where we discuss the state of the fashion industry and the rise of sustainable fashion as a movement but also fashion business model. Having looked at this we consider the great progress and conversations that rose within the sector as well as the limits within slow fashion still present today.
Episode 7: AIDS Epidemic, Homophobia & Queer History.
In this episode, we review the events of the 1980s AIDS pandemic as we analyse how the mishandling, misinformation and lack of support led to the tragedy that the epidemic was, as well as fueled homophobia that continues to this day. As we identify how the media, governments and lack of sex education worsened the situation, we also look at how the queer community was disproportionately let down and impacted by the crisis, as it allowed for homophobic stigma and prejudice to flourish.
In honour of Black History Month, Julie and her guests discuss the importance, necessity but also meanings and many joys of celebrating this month. More intersectional education, support for the black community and awareness as to dismantling stereotypes and appropriating culture are some of just some of the issues discussed as the three guests walk us through their embracing, love and pride of black culture and their black identity.
